SNK Neo Geo AES

So, after a very long debate (with myself of course) and after years of wanting a Neo Geo AES, I took the plunge and purchased one. I have not yet taken possesion of the unit or games, but I'm very excited about getting them. This is a system I've long wanted, but due to the high price so many years ago, I could never afford.

Here's what I'm getting in the next couple of weeks:

- SNK Neo Geo AES (JAP version)
- The King of Fighters '99
- Samurai Shodown
- Fatal Fury Special
- Magician Lord
- Blue's Journey
- Baseball Stars 2
- Nam-1975

you should have gotten a mvs with a supergun.

It was many child's dream to own a Neo-Geo back in the day. Sure in many ways I think the later Genny and Snes game gave it a run for the money near the end but that does not take away from the feeling of awe when seeing one at the time. A supergun would be cool and I would be happy with to have one but it would not be the same. Seeing that sleek Black system sitting on my entertainment center is still a childhood dream I have have not fulfilled.

MVS is the far cheaper option, but having the proper console and boxed games is nicer if you can afford it. I've got an AES myself and love it, Samurai Showdown in particular is excellent. The one downside to AES is the Metal Slug games are so expensive for it. But you can get an MVS adaptor which goes in the cart slot, or get a MVS cartridge converted to an AES cartridge. Either way if you can get Metal Slug to play on it, go for it as its awesome.

True. But I've seen more MVS bootlegs than AES.

havent got a neo geo but i will get one very soon,aes as well not mvs nonsense.

i had a neogeo aes with 5 or 6 games compleet pal model sold it for 500 euro
it s that i get for my birthday from my uncle those games where 500 guldens(dutch money ) like 300 euro s the piece always get a game from my uncle but i sold it all didn t like it that much anymore but only metal slug one i really miss

Got any other AES games you're lookin' to get rid of?

Mod it for S-Video, Component, or even better RGB.

For RGB check the serials to see if it's a order model or a later model (later models tend to have worse RGB and better Composite output, the order models it's the other way around).

I could be wrong about this, better to check Neo-Geo.com about RGB outputs on the AES systems.

No matter which model AES it is best to do an RGB bypass. SNK doesn't know anything about video output, that's for sure.

Not really. I'm in the US and just about all my systems output in RGB.

I did the XRGB2 route. Purchase the XRGB2 upscaler, a VGA monitor, a cheap 2.1 Speaker set, and buy the RGB SCART cables for all my video game systems. A word of caution: The XRGB2 RGB input are JP SCART. The Euro SCART cables uses a different pinout than JP SCART (a Euro SCART cable can fit in a JP SCART socket just fine, but since the pinouts are different the picture will be rolling with no sound). You can either mod the Euro SCART cable for the Japanese pinout or buy a converter cable so you can use any Euro SCART cable on the XRGB2 (like I did). If I own a Neo-Geo AES or CD I would need just the Euro SCART cable (easy to puchase) and I would get RGB video + sound all in one cable.

Kenny (Neotropolis) did my RGB bypass. I don't have any special jacks on my AES beyond what is there normally. I don't like modifying the external looks of my system unless I have to. I also had him install the Universe BIOS which I cannot recommend enough.

I'm not sure why his non-selling Neo Drift Out AES conversion went from $250 to $317 on eBay, though.

Beats me. The game is pretty easy if you use shortcuts. There's a MVS cab with Neo Drift-Out nearby and I one credit it easily.
