Do you still have to keep touching that guy who gets hurt every two minutes in Gears 2? "Fight through the pain!!"
the AI revives each other (and you) if they're close enough, but Dom still sucks.
Haha Joe, you did not just insult Dominic Santiago.
Obviously the AI needs a little work, but I was glad to see that your squad mates kept on their feet for most of the game, and would actually revive you and each other for once (a couple times I bled to death at Dom's feet, though).
That was about the only thing I really didn't like about Gears of War. I think the game would have been better going through alone instead of having to worry about your team... who were largely ineffective as it were. I had to kill all the enemies and complete all tasks my damn self, I just had the extra worry about touching my teammates on their special sweet spot when they got shot. or I could not advance and would keep getting bugged about it.
Oh, and games with radio chatter telling me what to do, where to go piss me off since they ALL seem to have it these days. Game design has sure tanked.
This is dangerously approaching "should be in a different thread" territory, but since you're the Joe Redifer, I'm not going to sweat it for now.
Gears of War was clearly designed to be a social game. I played through the first game by myself just as you described, except I never went out of my way to revive my AI teammates since the game did it automatically once the immediate objectives were met. The next two times I did with a human co-pilot, which was in many ways much more frustrating because I had a teammate that I now had to look after, and whenever he died, my game ended (and vice versa, I guess).
As for the constant chatter in video games these days, I think it's just a symptom of how elaborate the games are getting. The story needs to be moved along somehow, and usually developers will use a disembodied voice to do it. I don't mind it so much though, since it's typically done in an organic, non-destracting way IMO (you didn't even have to pay attention to it in Bioshock, for example)
I just got Factory Panic for Game Gear. Whoop-de-fucking-do.
madden 98- This marks my 100th Genesis game.
Got this via UPS today from Rockstar Games:

For those who don't know, it's the prize for being one of the first to get 100% completion in GTA IV. They had said it'd take about four months or so to come, and I had almost forgotten about it when the UPS guy knocked on my door and handed it to me yesterday. I also picked up Valkyria Chronicles for PS3 for $38.
Batman Returns genesis -- $10
NHL 94 genesis --$4
Zero Tolerance--free
Banjo-Kazooie (XBLA) My favorite game of all time.
