Notice that Earthworm Jim's blaster is also in the trash. So it's more of a prank against DKC competition in general, and not just Sega.

The moustache and hair is shaped too wrong. Okay, looking at it one way it could be a face. Almost.

...but looking at it another way it really, really, really looks like two lion-ish things facing each other. Which is more likely, given the 'ruins' theme of the level.
