Favorite rant and or memory...
I never had a Saturn. I had a PSX (yeah yeah yeah) but my friend had one with Daytona and I wanted to play it soooo bad one day when I seen it in his closet. I begged and begged to play but He refused to let me play it! I begged him to let me borrow it but he refused again!! It was like a dirty shameful secret in the closet... I just wanted to play Daytona!!
I hope to find a used one for the right price eventually.
Same here... I'm really interested in the Saturn, but I have never gotten the chance to play one. The closest I've really gotten is the PC ports of some of the Sonic titles. In fact, come to think of it, I've never even seen a Saturn in person, not even in the old games stores around here.
I do occasionally check eBay for good prices, but I've never had a good price and enough money at the same time.
My uncle used to have one. I loved playing it but he didnt like me and my cousins playing so whenever I used to sleep over, we would wake up at 6 AM and play. Good times
I've never played one. Never IRL, and never on an emulator (it seems there aren't any Saturn emulators). I'll try to get a Saturn one day but I think I'm going for a Sega CD first.
The saturn was the first console I ever played (got mine christmas of '96). I still love that thing to pieces. Its crazy that it's been 13 years since it came out.
I bought mine at launch for a whopping $430. I had no cash left over, so a friend of mine bought the three launch games - Panzer Dragoon, Clockwork Knight, and Daytona. We played Virtua Fighter until dawn and spent the rest of the day rocking Panzer. It was a blast.
I still have my Saturn, with about 50 games. I've neglected it a bit lately, but it's one system I'll never get rid of.
I got one in 2001, and have a hearty collection for it. Prolly about 70 odd games.
Well, I dug out my collection when I got home, and I wept... Too many games left at home I can't play :(
Ah, the good old Saturn. I remember shortly after I got mine, it seemed to stop working and I was terrified; I'd hardly overused it. Turned out it was too cold and it took the rest of the night to warm up.
Still, this mertis celebration. Think I'll whip out Shining the Holy Ark and then move from that to a playthrough of SF3 on insane. In the meantime, we'll see what else occurs to me.
I bought mine in 2003 from Game Crazy, got it for like $10 (after store credit) and was lucky enough to get AV cables with it. Bought it because I secured a copy of "Guardian Heroes" for $18.
Happy to have it for "Space Harrier", "Outrun", and "Afterburner".
When I was in college my brother got a Sega Saturn, so I would play only during the holidays. He only had Virtua Fighter, so I used it mostly to listen to CDs (I always loved the Saturn interface).
I only got to really know the console recently. And it already has a very special place in my heart and in my room - permanently connected to the S-video input.
I have probably told this story here before but I will tell it again. Gather 'round, kiddies!
The very day the Saturn launched in the US I was sitting at home or something similar. Then my pal Dave calls me from his work (he had an office job, the poor sap). He said "OMG d00d i saw teh Saturnz at teh storez on my lunch breakXorz i guess dey releeses it early cuz it iz out u shud go get 1 foo!" I was really amazed that he was able to talk like that since text messaging hadn't been invented yet and the internet was not popular. But I decided to get the Saturn right away regardless of how he told me about it. Problem: I did not have a (working) car at the time or it was in the shop or something like that. It was a Ford. It spent more time in the shop than my garage. Anyway I called one of my other friends and told him to come over and get me and take me down to Electronics Boutique so I could get one. That's right, Electronics Boutique. Not EB Games. I bet most of you young saps didn't even know what the letters E and B in EB Games stood for. NOW GET THE HELL OFF MY LAWN! So we go down there and I pick it up along with Panzer Dragoon and Daytona USA. Virtua Fighter came with the system. The total amount was something like $515 or so, I have the receipt in the box still. I actually told the cashier "Eh, that's really not too bad" and he replied "No, it really isn't!". Keep in mind that several months before this I bought a 3DO for $700 which came with one lame game and a sampler disc, so the Saturn seemed like a damn steal.
So we got home and I decided I would let my friend watch me play the games in exchange for taking me down to Electronics Boutique and back. It was fun! I think that evening Dave came down to play as well. Of course he didn't buy a Saturn for a loooooong time since his money was waiting for the PlayStation. I bought the PS when he did, not sure why he couldn't buy the Saturn when I did because I know he got paid more than me and we both lived with our parents, etc etc etc.
My launch day Saturn is alive and well, while my launch day Playstation hasn't worked since 1998 (and thats after 3 repair jobs by Sony). Way to go Sega for making a well built gaming machine!
