Ok im not sure what to get so i thought i would ask on here,,
sometime in the next week i am probably going to buy either a Gamecube or a Dreamcast but the problem is i dont know which one is better for the money:S
They are both Ģ15 where i can get them, but i allready have a ps2 and a xbox,, so i dont know which one to get,, so a bit of help would be appreciated :D

If you have a Wii already theres no need to buy a cube, just a cube pad and memory card and your away.
A lot of dreamcast games have since come out on other systems, but theres still some great games only found there like Shenmue, Soul Calibur, Confidential Mission and so on, so its still definitly worth getting one.
I love my Dreamcast more and use it more for good long gaming sessions and the occasional thrash on Dead or Alive and Soul Calibur.
If I'm honest though I use my GameCube more and it's much better for jumping in for a half hours random gaming, as well as having some great titles to put allot of time into such as it's resident evil releases, final fantasy cc, eternal darkness and zeldas (although I'm not really a zelda fan)
You have the excellent sonic collections too which is a MUCH cheaper way of getting your hands on Sonic CD ;)
We also do allot more multiplayer gaming on the cube.
The choice is yours, if it was me I would buy a Dreamcast but that's more the crazed sega fanboy in me talking, as far as regular gaming goes it has to be the GameCube.
Reasons to own a GameCube: Mario Kart, Zelda: Windwaker, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Paper Mario, Smash Bros. Melee + all games and controllers will be compatible to Wii.
Reasons to own a Dreamcast: Still the best platform for shmups and 2D fighters. Also has REZ, Virtua Tennis and Capcom's Power Stone series. Reads CDRs right out of the box. Full speed NES, Master System, and NeoGeoCD emulators available. Plays Beats of Rage engine and mods.
I would go for Dreamcast. Get a Wii to play Gamecube games (if not now, you know, someday). Even if you have no intention of ever getting a Wii, the only way I might suggest Gamecube over DC is if you didn't have an Xbox.
People always mention the number of DC games ported to other consoles, but it's pretty overstated. With maybe 3 or 4 exceptions, the ports either weren't as good on the other system (Grandia II, anyone?), or were games that no sane person would give a damn about in the first place (Ferrari F355 Challenge, I'm looking at you). The only clear case of a port being superior to the Dreamcast version is Skies of Arcadia Legends; the others range from "significantly worse" to "about the same". I would mention PSO, but I think (ironically) the DC version is the only one that can still be played online, now negating its inferiority to Ep. 1 & 2.
Games to own a Gamecube for: Super Monkey Ball, Viewtiful Joe, Skies of Arcadia Legends, Alien Hominid, Killer 7, Paper Mario, P.N. 03, Wario Ware, Pikmin, Metroid Prime, Zelda Master Quest, Geist, Chibi-Robo, Kururin Squash (import), Mr. Driller: Drill Land (import)
Games to own a DC for: Jet Grind Radio, Typing of the Dead, Zombie Revenge, Sword of the Berserk, Grandia II, Power Stone 1 & 2, Crazy Taxi 2, Samba de Amigo, Omikron:The Nomad Soul, Bangai-O, Dynamite Cop, Border Down (import), Under Defeat (import), Karous (import)
Both are worth getting but I would pick the Dreamcast, which is worth it for Shenmue alone.
Forgot another reason: Dreamcast can output VGA (RGBHV in 480p) via VGA box for all games (if using backups, original GDs won't work in some cases), emulators and homebrew. GameCube (like Wii) would need a very expensive custom cable and even then I highly doubt that all games would work. PS2 and Xbox aren't capable of outputting VGA at all, just Y'PbPr (Component).
Xbox can output VGA, it was just never officially supported by Microsoft. There were third-party VGA hookups (1, 2), or you can make a custom cable. Unfortunately, while almost all Dreamcast games will work with VGA and in 480p, there's a significant number of Xbox games that are 480i only, and as far as I know there's no "fix" to "force" them to work.
I'd get a dreamcast, especially if you like racing games because there are a TON of really good, really cheap racing games for dreamcast. Personally I hate gamecube and all the games I would buy for gamecube have a superior version for PS2, so to me its pointless. Also, as others have pointed out, if you have a Wii there is no point since the Wii can play all the gamecube games, you just need a controller and memory card.

A bit hard to say, it really depends on your taste....but seeing that you have a PS2 as well as an Xbox, maybe you should take the Gamecube.
The thing is that many orf the DCīs best games are also available on the other platforms. Shenmue 1 is exclusive, but it is lame compared to part 2 which you can get on Xbox. Soul Calibur was impressive, but no reason for part 1 when you can have parts 2 and 3 on PS2 and Xbox. Headhunter is also available on PS2, as well as Rez. Code Veronica is available on PS2 and Gamecube...Sonic Adventure 2 is available on Gamecube, as is Skies of Arcadia....HOTD 2 is good, but you can just pick part 3 on Xbox. Crazy Taxi is on Xbox too I believe, and generally PS2 and Xbox have a great selection of racing games if you care about that.
The GCN on the other hand has RE1-Remake, Eternal Darkness, MGS The Twin Snakes, two Zelda-games and the bunch of Nintendo-games you canīt get on the others.
So I would pick the GCN if I was you.
There is no doubt that the GameCube does have the better mainstream games and much better exclusives. Doesn't change the fact that the Dreamcast library is still excellent and does have the finest selection of shmups and 2D beat'em ups of any of the mentioned consoles. Also makes sense to play NAOMI games on Dreamcast and not on PS2/Xbox/GC, since these are arcade perfect conversions.
Judging from these links, Xbox can't output RGBHV at all. The Linux links explains how to make a cable to convert RGBs (as used with RGB-SCART, the s stands for composite sync) for a monitor capable of displaying RGB with sync on green; and at least the Innovation VGA hookup in your first link likely does a similar conversion (I bought the thing for my Nintendo systems, but it doesn't work properly on PAL systems as the pinout differs on PAL and NTSC machines).Quote:

For Shmups however I agree, but they are kind of a niche-genre....and I have no idea if he cares about them.
Personally Iīd love to play Street Fighter III on my DC, since the PS2-port is NTSC-only, but the darn game is ultr@ r@re in PAL....but it certainly crushes most other fighters to date.
I have no experience with GameCube... I love my Dreamcast though, lots of very nice shmups... and Sonic Adventure 2 (which is on GC too, and should be better as GC has some more power in it). I love SA2, my most played DC game.
Get both! Get whatever you can find first. I would look for a DC first because they can be harder to come by and some people ask to much for them when you do. Because of the Wii compatibility everyone is selling cheap NGCs now. I just picked up a late model (no digital a/v out port on the back) silver NGC with a controller and all 3 Resident Evil games and Time Killers 2 for $50. There are ALWAYS NGC in the paper every time I look but a DC comes around far and few.
The NGC is easier to come by for a cheaper price and IMHO more reliable. It would also be easier to find games for and many DC games (Sonic, Crazy Taxi, Fantasy Star Online etc) are on the NGC. That said the DC still has a warmer feel to it. If I had to get rid of one it would be the NGC!
