I bought 4x Dreamcast controllers (3 official, one knock off) and a VMU off EBayz for like $20!
You can play games on it too I don't know if anyone mentioned it but some DC games offer a downloadable mini game for the VMU. The batteries don't last long enough and the thing just plain needs more memory. Shemnue fill up half the thing and some of the mini games can too so yeah its almost useless if you want to play games on it and you have a few RPGs.

I have my VMU full of SA2... you can unlock 40 extra blocks on the VMU, but I don't know the details how its done.

I got a third party 4X VMU from ebay for £1.99, I never need worry again really.

I just made a YouTube video showing exactly how to unlock the extra 41 blocks on a stock VMU and also how to run homebrew games and do some other things with the VMU.

There was a first-party 4x memory card as well. It's slightly annoying because it's divided into four partitions that you have to switch between by pressing a button. So it's like having four VMUs in one device, but I'd rather it be one large chunk of memory. Perhaps there was some limitation in the system that prevented them from doing that. The 4x card was definitely an afterthought.
The batteries in the VMU go out ridiculously fast. Just leave the batteries out until you want to play a VMU minigame. I do like how you can connect two VMUs to each other to transfer files. I wonder if there was ever a two-player VMU game.

Yeah I thought you could plug two into each other and do file transfers but I wasn't sure as I had never done it.
