Most overhyped system since the 3DO?

Giving up? They have the largest market share out of the three current-gen systems (let's ignore the still-kicking-ass PS2 in the corner). There are also plenty of hardcore games coming up, and I think your view on "casual" games is a bit off. Just because young children and older people can understand games like Boom Blox and Wii Sports doesn't mean hardcore gamers can't enjoy those games.

Honestly, have you spent some time with Wii Sports? How about Boom Blox? It's kind of funny, some people choose to trash the Wii for having simplified games, yet the best games of the past (Super Mario World, Sonic the Hedgehog, Tetris) were all incredibly simple.

I don't have the room for one... but they aren't that rare.... surprised that Nintendo has really upped the production. I live in the DC metro area, and I saw like five not too long ago at a Target in Alexandra, VA.

Plus I don't have the time for games, too many unplayed games from other systems, and there's really not much that interests me.

Disagree. It magically sucks $50 out of your wallet each year. To hell with that! The PS3's online service seems just as good. I don't get any glitches or anything else like that. I've had a few Xbox Live Gold trials and nothing there was ANY better than it is on the PS3's online world.

I use the headset that came with the first SOCOM game on the PS2. It is a wired USB headset. Works 100% perfectly without any problems. What is this about requiring Bluetooth? The 360 won't even let you use a normal USB headset of your choice, to my knowledge.

I think we've established that the PS2 wins this thread. :D

I had COD4 on the PS3, before I traded it in for the 360 version. I made that decision after trying to find a match on the PS3 version and not finding anyone to play. A friend of mine just recently bought a PS3 and he had the same problem with COD4 as well. I'd thought that maybe it was because I'd bought the game so early, and that the PS3 sales weren't there for the title, but that's not the case. Where was everybody, playing Warhawk?

I find that the achievements system gives me incentive to play a more complete game. There's nothing wrong with a little bragging rights. ;)

I'm certainly not sitting 8 feet from my PS3, when I have it connected to the home theater. I have the Bluetooth headset, BTW.;)

I do have a USB headset from my PS2, but I often found (on PS2) that nobody was using it outside of SOCOM. I never encountered that problem (people without headsets) with the old Xbox either.

I definitely don't loose any sleep at night over the lack of achievements on the PS3 as I don't care what other players do. PSN online is not bad at all though and on COD4 I didn't have any problems finding a game unless it was like 2 in the morning and even then I would just have to go back and hit "Find Match" a second time and it usually worked. Like Joe said though nothing I've seen on Xbox live is that much better than what's on PSN, not enough to warrant $50 extra bucks a year, and certainly not enough to make me wish I had a 360.

I had my PS3, before a 360 and it's somewhat disappointing to go back to the PS3's online environment. The 360 was created with online gaming in the forefront, while Sony's take was more towards digital online services. Sony dropped the ball, IMO.

The problem isn't with the Wii as a system. It's that developers are not making quality software but just flooding the market hoping the gimmick of the wireless control sells the title. It really is a fantastic system for what it is, and while it can't compete graphically with the 360 or PS3, that won't negatively impact the system so long as developers wake up and start releasing better software for the console. Until then, it's only a matter of time I suspect that players either become bored with the innovative control or just stop buying software altogether, realizing that the pack-in is all they really need to get the maximum enjoyment from the Wii.

I never have any problems finding many people to play online in Burnout Paradise and I doubt that is as popular as Call of Duty 4 even though it is a far better game. I think the CoD4 problem on the PS3 is that most people attribute FPS games to the 360, since it seems that's all they have sometimes (I know when I think of shitty military games, the 360 is usually the first system that comes to mind). So I am betting that most people just bought that game for the 360. Also, the 360 version is supposed to be a bit better graphically or something like that.

I have a Wii, I hate it, I've barely touched the thing. Eventually I'll get a PS3, everyone seems to be springing for the 360, but honestly I think the PS3 is still far from being Sony's main priority. With PS2 sales still strong and a huge installed user base, I think sony just brought the PS3 out early and didn't really expect it to sell huge amounts just yet. IMO, I can definitely see the PS3 doing to the XBOX 360 what the PS2 did to the Dreamcast: total annihilation.

Except when the PS2 came out, the DC was all but completely forgotten.

When the PS3 came out, most gamers were like 'okay, that's nice; we're busy with our 360s.'

If only the DC'd been so lucky.


Not to say the PS3 doesn't have potential, but face it: the games aren't there.

Is there a single title worth paying $400 to play? That might be MGS4 for some people, but not for me.

Final Fantasy XIII, maybe... in two or three years when it comes out, if that.

The problem with the Wii is that it is prone for alot of developers to be lazy and create shovelware for it like the DS. Granted it has some good games (Metroid Prime 3 comes to mind) but it also has alot of crap. The bad thing with Nintendo right now is that they are dumbing there games to much because they want don't you to be able to beat your Grandma based on skill but dumb luck i.e. Mario Kart Wii.

It is only 50 dollars more. You act like that is some huge investment.

For people like me, who have a tv worth 700 dollars or more and surround sound, a 360 is not too expensive. A PS3, however, is too much for the games; most are actually on 360 as well. You also get that shitty old controller, no ethernet cable, a craptastic composite cable (nice way to show off Bluray and HD, Sony), and a lot of actually inferior ports of 360 games due to PS3 being harder to programme for or something. If not inferior, it usually takes months later just to get something.

Also you forgot the other game people whore themselves for: GT5. One thing I have noticed is that PS3, for retail games, usually get the best exclusives. 360 just ends up doing better with multiplatform releases, online games, and downloadable games (well it used to, it is crappy now).

As for Wii... It is just not worth it to me. I want a next generation console, not another old 32-bit one we have been dealing with since 1994 or earlier. 360, PS3, and even PCs are all 64-bit now. Nintendo needs to stop selling exercise equipment for senior citizens and remember they are a gaming company. There is no reason Nintendo cannot make two consoles; they seem to do fine with handling a handheld and a console.

Why not expand to your previous fanbase who moved on due to the Wii being simply unappealing? It is not like SEGA where people were forced to change consoles, here Nintendo is just abandoning their fans. I have a DS and it is great, it is a shame they cannot do the same with their home console.

Metroid Prime 3 is probably my favorite Wii game. It's definitely the most immersive and the most "Wii-like", meaning it just wouldn't be the same on any other system. Super Mario Galaxy is also completely awesome, but I think it could have pretty much been done on the Gamecube if it lost that lame "point at the screen and collect Star Bits" nonsense.

So, with only a few exceptions, I'd say that Wii is a videogame system for people who don't like videogames. Everyone in my family has one. It embarrasses me.

How was the Wii overhyped? It delivered pretty well on what it was hyped for. I don't recall any claims that there would be a bunch of top-tier, big budget third party releases among any of the Wii hype. The Wii was hyped as a system that would interest many not previously interesting in gaming. And it has. Therefore, it lived up to the hype.
