Not that it makes you feel any better 108 Stars, but I've never met a person (in the US) who associates "that German hat with the spike on top" (a.k.a. the Pickelhaube) with WW2 or Nazism or anything bad. Maybe it is ignorance, maybe the passage of time has allowed people to just not care.

Hehe, that is nice to hear. The problem is really more inside Germany I think; people here tend to be over-careful about not being associated with the past.
However, a thing like our unique helmets should really not be blamed by anyone; it is a characteristic like the bobbies in the UK.^^

I'm guessing you own one of those hats and never take it off?
-
-
God those helmets rock so ******g much. Wonder were I could get one of those....
-
Shot in the dark here...but I'd guess Sweden.
Maybe even Germany.

Nobody said looking stylish was going to be cheap.
-
Hehe, actually I do not own one of those because of the price...too bad I have no things from my grand-grand fathers left, chances are good at least one of them fought in WWI and was able to keep it with the end of the war^^
-
We need to start a Picklehaube fund for 108.
-
I thought Emperor Hoff mandated that all Germans wear those hats.
Since 108 Stars doesn't have one, the rumors are FALSE.

Bless Mel Brooks for his movies...except for "Dracula: Dead and Loving it".

108 Stars doesn't have a Pickelhaube? MADNESS!!

I don't own any Deutsch stuff, but I actually have a few Austro-Hungarian things. I inherited my great grandfathers pistol that he used in WW I-- 8mm Gasser revolver and his Hungarian service medal...he was hungarian and moved to the USA right after the war and according to my mom's parents was ardently pro-Habsburg/pro-Horthy (regent after WW I) and anti-communist. I also have the other, more common AH pistol the Steyr M.1911 with some regimental markings from WW I.
World War I is so freakin' interesting, all these empires and monarchies fighting with modern weapons. It was Europe's last old school and first modern war at the same time. Crown princes controlling armies and whatnot. The only modern war I find interesting...1400's-1690's is my emphasis in college "Early Modern Europe"
