The SNES version of "Mortal Kombat", despite being sanitized and having noticeably sluggish gameplay, still completely blows away the Genesis and Sega CD versions (the latter of which included the "Mortal Monday" commercial with snippets of the SNES' version playing!!!) in graphics and sound. I'm still surprised by how close the SNES replicated the coin-ops' graphics, sound and music. If it just had blood and wasn't so laggy then it would've crushed the UGLY, drab, color-starved Genesis & Sega CD versions (though I still do very much enjoy the Genesis versions' soundtrack). The Genesis version didn't even seem to have as much blood as the coin-op, but it outsold the SNES version 3 to 1 due to it. Afterwards, the SNES ports of II & III would dominate the Genesis ports and best them in the sales charts, but the Genesis ports of MKII & MKIII are still amongst the handful of Genesis games to have sold a million copies or more.
