Curious but what is your history with this machine? What is your machine's history?

I'll start:

First played the genesis at a cousin's house (he had everything gaming tons of stuff) not sure which model probably 1 he had a cd as well

Bought my first genesis in 98/99 it was a genesis 3 I stumbled across at the local mall in a toystore-20 bucks and I was on my way to gaming goodness. Probably owned about two dozen games back then all from a local pawn or video store.

And just recently decided to go genesis again my genesis is a model 1 which according to a small plaque on the bottom was refurbished by sega at some point. I believe this accured in 1994. It also has a sega cd.

I wanted an NES in 1991. All my friends had one. A few had a SMS too, so that was my second choice. But my mom was more clever; she had seen Revenge of Shinobi and realized how far better the MD was technically, and that buying one of the older systems was investing money into something near death. So she persuaded me to take the MD, and some lucky day in 1991 it was finally mine, bundled with Sonic The Hedgehog....man, I am grateful to my mom for knowing more about gaming than myself!:D

I saved a MD1 (which turned out to be a clone later on, but a good one) from a dumpster in 1999 or 2000 then found a nice nifty shop (http://www.gamepood.ee) in Tallinn that sold Sega (compatible) stuff and I got the thing working... few years later it died :( Then I got lucky and someone happened to have a MD2 lying around, so I got it... and now this MD2 has served me well, and will do so in future, especially with its new MCD2 side-kick ;) My MD2 : http://www.hot.ee/tmeeco/MYSMD2.JPG

My brother and I got our Sega Genesis for Christmas 1989 with Altered Beast. We probably didn't buy a game until Sonic came out in '91 though...rentals only until that point. Our household's first video game console. Though my dad had a Commodore 64 with a couple of games (my dad was in love with the Commodore 64 and honestly did not buy a new computer until 1998! when the internet essentially forced him to) we still have all the manuals for it lying around.

I am still in possession of said genesis and I still have all the original hookups. Sadly our original 3 button and arcade controller are long broken BUT we do have our original 6 button controller. The genesis no longer works...almost a decade of near non-stop play & 6 moves did not help it. Both controller ports are finicky and the cartridge slot has soda or something spilled in there. I only hold onto it for sentimental reasons.

I was 10 years oldand it was 1990. I walked into the local arcade and saw something that blew me away. It was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It destroyed anything I had ever seen on my Nes. I could go back to playing my Nintendo after that. Being an optimistic young kid I wrote a letter to Sega asking if they would ever make Tmnt for Genesis. When they repsonded (lord I wish I had tha tletter still) they gave me a very poilte no but did include a list of upcoming games and included a poster. I had wrote Nintendo before and their letters were always very snooty. Just that letter alone made me want to buy it. Little touches like plastic cases also helped. I saved every cent i could scrounge up. My mom promised if I got good enough grades she would buy me one and I did. I was stuck with Altered Beast for about 6 months though. That sucked but i did eventually did get to play TMNT in one form or another.

I can't fully remember, around 94 i guess. Once I got a PlayStation, my focus mainly shifted to that. I still played the Genesis and bought some games for it but after something broke, it would be years before I would get back to it.

Saw some screenshots of "Sonic 2" the summer of 1992 and by that x-mas I had Sonic 2 and the system.

That system is packed up because it is a later system with bad audio, the one I use I bought off Ebay about 5 years ago.

Here's a sorta different one:

When my family bought a new PC in 1999 it came bundled with Sonic and Knuckles Collection. I played that and became obsessed with Sonic, which led me to wonder where Sonic 1 and 2 were. One internet search later I found a Genesis emulator and a couple of ROMs. I played them on and off, and over the next few years grabbed 5 or 6 other ROMs (Megaman Wily Wars, Mega Bomberman, and Dr. Robotnik are the only ones I actually remember getting), not wanting to expand my horizons past franchises I'd known from NES emulators and my Game Boy for unknown reasons. The system never really was important to me at the time, except for the Sonic games. I mostly hung around the SNES emulators and games (and in fact a Christmas list I made in 1999 has a SNES on it, as I didn't realize that they weren't made any more)

So, about a year ago I bought a GP2X handheld, and its Genesis emulator performed extremely well compared to the other emulators available on the system at the time (and still does, in fact). So, hungry for games, I looked at the GP2X forums and got a couple of game recommendations, with Streets of Rage 2 the only one I remember. But I got essentially hooked! I realized the Genesis had a lot more interesting stuff out there for it. So more ROM downloading happened.
So, now we're getting closer to the actual Genesis. Time passed, I played a load of games, and decided I really wanted to actually have the console experience. My brother picked up a SNES about two years ago and we enjoyed the games even more than we had in emulation, so I knew that I could similarly get more fun out of the Genesis by getting one. However, I was pretty much out of money so most of the prices on Ebay looked ridiculous. Time passed again.

Enter late March 2008. I'm in school, and the English class I'm in has been a complete joke with the teacher teaching absolutely nothing. You could call it social hour. As usual I'm talking with this nice girl next to me. Kind of a geeky person, maybe not tons, but somewhat. Somehow we get on the topic of video games and I mention how much I've been enjoying Genesis stuff. She says "oh! I have one of those but I don't play it any more..." So I sort of take advantage of the fact she doesn't play it any more and state that I've been searching for one. She says I can have it. A few days later, on April 2 (wow, I remember the day!) before school, I recieve from her a plastic bag containing a Genesis 2, 3-button pad, Sonic 2, and Aladdin. It had some wear and tear (very dirty, and a sticker on the bottom states it's been refurb'd) and a nice green sticker on the front, but I got that removed and the whole system generally cleaned up. I had a Genesis. It was, and still is, wonderful. I'm addicted.

I bought a NES in the summer of '87 and was a total fan. Genesis and TG16 came out in 89, but I didn't pick up both until summer of '90 at age 14. I had played Altered Beast demo at "Play Word" quite a few times, but I wasn't really interested by the system. I was still in love with the NES.

Great NES games were coming out left and right, and were easy to rent. I wasn't overly impressed by the graphics or sound of the Genesis, being totally happy with the NES. It wasn't until my older brother brought home a TG16 and a bunch of games, that the NES dated graphics/sound started to bug me. I was hooked on the TG16. Through the TG16, I met a friend who had one in my neighborhood. He also had a Genesis that I got to play quite a bit. I had borrowed it a few times and my brother decided to get one that fall in 1990. I loved all those early titles. Now that I look back, I regret completely ditching the NES. There were some great games to come out in 90-92.

It all happened during 1991/1992... I think my interest in SEGA was fueled by having played Asterix and Sonic on a friend's SMS II. The thing had Alex Kidd in Miracle World built-in (crazy stuff!) and I was completely blown away by the fantastic quality of these games. They were great fun to play and had very colorful graphics and catchy music.

I've had seen various old consoles and home computers until then. I can't even remember what brands they were, but I clearly remember that none of them left much of an impression.

This time though, I started bugging my parents to buy me a Master System, but they didn't want to spent money on video games.

But there was no escape: At New Year's Eve '91/'92, my parents took me with them to spend the night at their friends. Their daughter had a Mega Drive with Sonic. Never again have I been more impressed by graphics and sound of a video game. After many hours, me and my brother made it to the first level of the Marble Zone.

At that time I stumbled across a 1991 SEGA catalogue at some toy store which had awesome photos of SEGA's hardware line up and great screenshots to some of the available games; and which I still have to this day.

Of course now that I've experienced Sonic on Mega Drive, I wanted a Mega Drive - although it was even more expensive than a Master System and although I was kinda sad that it had no Asterix game. And those that came out many years later weren't made by SEGA. Asterix remained a game exclusive to the SMS, and which I never played again until 11 years later - via SMEG on Dreamcast. :)

Anyway, that year SEGA launched the "Cyber Razor Cut" commercial which I taped on VHS and watched again and again. - The German version was edited for faster cuts and had way better music than the UK version you can find on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAAjQskHh-g

I started buying every video game magazine there was - which were only two: "Video Games" which had reviews of everything from NES to NeoGeo (and Factor5's Julian Eggebrecht as a staff writer); and "Gamers" which dealed with everything SEGA.

I kept bugging my parents for the entire year and we made plans on how I could possibly afford it. I finally got my Mega Drive at Christmas '92. During the months before Christmas, my mother drove me out to the only video game shop in our area a few times, so I could buy a second hand copy of Quackshot, an UK import version of World of Illusion and Sonic 2 at the day of its release (DM 79,- IIRC); all of which made waiting these loooong months until Christmas even longer.

One of my friends had bought a Genesis (@1989) and he mailed in the UPC code for 2 additional titles. He had Altered Beast (Pack-in) and two additional titles (PSII and Super Thunderblade) from the mail-in offer. I'd talked him into buying Herzog Zwei and we played it quite a bit.

He'd originally bought the Genesis, with hopes of it providing PC style games. He had decided he needed to sell it, because had wanted a PC, so he sold it to me for $150.

I had amassed a decent collection of games for the system and later bought a Sega CD to go with it. I had bought CD titles like Snatcher, Lunar 1&2, Prize Fighter, Dark Wizard, Silpheed, F-15 Tomcat and Battle Corps.

I had decided to sell my (boxed)Genesis and Sega CD collection to buy games for my Sega Saturn; A decision I later regretted. :(

I ended up buying a model 2 Genesis and about 50 complete games later on, but I do miss having the complete 1st model Genesis. I was at least fortunate enough to get Herzog Zwei back, in mint condition.

A friend of mine did the exact same thing. Every now and then he mentions how much he regrets this decision.

I first played the Genesis a week or two before its release at a car show. A local game shop had a booth set up for whatever reason and there it was running Altered Beast. Although I was initially disappointed that the game lacked the scaling found in the arcade, I learned to like it anyway when I purchased the machine upon release a week or so later. I still have the same unit and it has played well over 600 or 700 games. It talks to me (though never directly) and I worship it. I will go to Genesis heaven when I die if I believe in it strongly enough. That helps me feel better about death and gives my limited mind some answers that I could not otherwise conceive of.

I first played the Genesis in 1991 at a local video rental store. They had a bunch of game systems set up so you could play them for a certain amount of time for something like $5 an hour. Upon hearing about the store from a friend, my parents finally took me after weeks of bugging them. The first game I tried was Altered Beast. I liked it right away, because it seemed so much more advanced than the Atari 2600 and NES I was used to. After that, I played Sonic. Needless to say, I was blown away. I ended up getting the system that Christmas and have been a Sega fan ever since.

I never owned a Megadrive as a kid, mostly because I started out with a NES and went on to the SNES, but many of my friends had Megadrives and i've got lots of fond memories of games like Altered Beast, Aladdin, Talespin, Sonic etc. After the SNES generation I moved onto a Saturn, but was really too young to appreciate the games available, so I ended up trading it for a PSX. It wasn't until I got a Dreamcast back in 1999 that I fell in love with SEGA.

Anyways, over the last 3 years or so i've been collecting Saturn & Dreamcast games; well earlier this year I finally felt I could consider both my Saturn & DC collections complete, so I moved onto the Megadrive - got myself a Megadrive 2 with a region switch & a 60/50hz switch, MegaCD 2 with a region switch and a un-modded 32x. Only trouble is, the Megadrive has too many awesome games and i'm quickly running out of storage space :p

I just remember my older brother getting one when sonic 1 came out and the graphics blew my mind. I was young and we had a decent NES collection for years before that so I was very used to 8-bit graphics and computer graphics, and the waterfalls and sunflowers in sonic blew my mind. I can't remember ever being that impressed with any other console as I was with the genesis. When we got resident evil two for playstation as our first game was pretty impressive also. We stayed up playing that one for days.

Well my first memory of video games EVER was playing Super Mario Bros. 3 on the NES at some kids house. It was.... okay... but my second memory of a video game is the one that is actually important/the one I cherish. It was probably '92 or '93, and I got to *watch* someone play Sonic 1. Even as like a 4 year old I knew that this was something amazing. I had to wait my turn, but eventually I got to break out some time playing Marble Zone. In retrospect its not the best level but it didn't matter I was hooked. My best friend had one too and although the only games he had were Sonic 2 and MK II, we played the hell out of those things.

I became forever in worship of Sega during Christmas of '95 I believe, when I got 2 boxes of presents. Inside one box was my Genesis, packed with Columns. The other box, well that was none other than Sega Channel. I almost shit when I saw that. I seriously spent the next 6 months on that thing. It got so bad that one day when I got home from school my Genesis was gone and my parents told me that it had broke.

I pulled it out of the closet about 4 years ago to find that it still had the original box and the pack-in stuff surprisingly, and that it also all still worked. That was the biggest pwn of my life that my parents laid on me, one of the biggest pwns ever actually since I love that thing so much.

People ask me why I so much prefer the Genesis over the SNES, other than explaining all the extreme games I usually just tell them about Sega Channel and they instantly get pissed that the SNES never got the same treatment.

As best I can remember...

Part exchanged my original NES for my first Megadrive in about '90 or '91, I was already and Amiga owner so I would now smugly proclaim I had both the best computer and best console on the planet.

Got a MegaCD a couple of years later and after that part exhcanged my Amiga 500, a shed load of software and games for a spanking new 32X :bang:

The Megadrive got allot less use after I managed to save up and go halves with my folks on an Amiga 1200 though.

A good portion of my MD games and my original MegaCD were sold off to buy my first Saturn in '95

Wind forward to 2000 and after selling my first Dreamcast I re-invested the money in a new MegaCD, as well as pumping money into my Saturn collection.

2003 - Hard times forced the sale of my complete PAL Saturn collection as well as my ample NES and Amiga collections and my GameCube :(
At this point my Megadrive 1 + MegaCD 1 + 32X was the only console I owned, until my then girlfriend got me another GameCube.

2006 - My orignal Mega Drive 1 ceases working so is given a full burial with friends present in my mothers yard (I shit you not lol)

2008 - My original 32X, a replacement Megadrive 1 and MegaCD now take pride of place in my gaming parlour, with the Saturn and Dreamcast sat below.

If my memory serves me right, it must had been the summer of '92 when my father brought to me and my sister the Sega Mega Drive system. I was on holidays at that time. When i got back to the hotel i was staying, i immediately connected it to the TV and put Sonic 1 to play. Only one word can only describe my feelings at that moment: SHOCK! Man, it was so colourful, i had never played such a game before. I still remember how i felt hearing the sound the rings made when Sonic was gathering them...After that summer, i became a MD addict. Couldn't buy much things of course, about 1 game every 3-4 months, they were very expensive, almost unaffordable for the savings of a 11 year old child. Anyway, my collection was growing slowly but steadily and here we are now, in year 2008, still buying games one after the other. I just wish i had more free time to play nowadays...

When the Genesis was first released with Sonic 1, my older brother got one for Christmas. The only home video game system we'd ever had was a Unysis Pong/Hockey game Dad bought on a whim many years before. Needless to say, I was jealous of my brother and wanted my own Genesis. It needs to be said, we were all adults by then, I was in my late twenties and that would make my brother around thirty.

Well, I did get a Sonic 1 pack Genesis 1 for the next Christmas and I've been hooked ever since. Since I was a well employed adult when I got mine I could buy games almost at will. I say almost since I got married about a year after I got my Genesis and our budget was aimed toward building a household and eventually buying a house. But I became a bargain hunting machine. The Genesis had a few years on it and Toys R Us carried a lot of older games which could be gotten for lower prices and Target often had pretty good sales. And I of course took advantage of almost every rebate and "buy 2 get one free" offer Sega and Electronic Arts offered. A new regional chain of used game stores, called Gamers, opened and provided access to lots of games in great shape for bargain prices. Back in the day I probably had 60-70 games and I rarely sold games unless I really hated it. I remember buying a Menacer for $19.00 on sale at Toys R Us and hating it so bad I sold it to Gamers two days later for $18.00. Man that gun worked horribly!

I was slow to adopt the Sega CD and 32X but I did get them both. In the end I had 40-50 CD games and about 25 32X games. I've kept most of my games and continue to collect Genesis, SCD and now have all US released 32X games. I also bought a lot of peripherals for my system such as guns, touchpad controlers (I LOVE my Turbo 360 pad and still use it!) and programmable combo pads. Along the way I also bought a Game Gear and amassed a good collection there but I later sold it off. Regretting that, in the past few years I've rebuilt my original collection and then some.

The point behind the 32X was to basically get a Saturn without getting a Saturn. Well, I quickly learned that was never going to be reality. I actually like most of my 32X games, but I did get a Saturn eventually. I was a late adoptor of the Playstation and later the PS2. Especially after I got the PS2, I have 70-80 games for it too, I just didn't have time or desire to play my old systems, but I kept them all.

More recently the retro bug bit and since none of the newer systems are something I really have to have, I stepped back into collecting the old stuff. I got a Nomad and a CDX because I always wanted them back in the day but could never justify getting them as they would be redundant. I rebuilt my Game Gear collection with a vengance and I got a Power Base Converter and starter collecting SMS games. I've hunted down most of the retro games I've always wanted to have, such as Snatcher, and now have a great game collection that I am actually pretty proud of.

I didn't get a Megadrive untill a few years ago, but it hadn't totally passed me by untill then. I had played Megadrives over friends houses and such, Street Fighter 2 CE, Fifa and NHL were games that were often played at the time. I had a Master System instead as a kid, which is still my favourite console now.

I got a Megadrive in 1993, as a Communion present (aka - bought it with all the money my friends' parents and relatives gave me for the occasion :D). It came with a copy of Sonic 1, and I also picked up Quackshot on the same day. I still have both of the Sonic posters that came with each of the games: they list the European MD releases between 89 and 91 on the backs ('Sonic the Hedgehog - Sega's newest platform hero!') ... Wonder how much they're worth now?

My earliest memories of playing Sega Genesis date back to around 1992ish, when I was five years old. I often went and stayed at my uncle's place when I wasn't in school, and their next-door neighbors at the time (who to this day are all still good friends of my family) had two sons who owned a pre-TMSS Model 1. I almost exclusively visited their house just to play it, and played (and watched) many of the 1989-1993 era games in the time that they owned it, such as "Altered Beast", Tommy Fuckin' Lasorda, Shadow Dancer, Target Earth, Sonic 1 & 2, Streets 1 & 2.

Eventually, I finally got a Genesis of my own sometime in mid-to-late 1995. It was a used TMSS Model 1 w/ a used 3-Button pad and a used NFR Sonic 1. My first four games were Sonic 1, Mortal Kombat 1, Street Fighter II: SCE (which some black kid stole from me in the third grade, much to my father and brother's chagrin......the latter really liked the game) and Sonic 2.

For the next seven years, and in various capacities, I owned/sold/threw away 6 different Genesis (Two TMSS Model 1s, Three Model 2s and One Model 3, the only one bought new in box), owned as little as 5-10 games and as much as 20-25 games. I still saw myself coming back to 16-Bit, even after purchasing consoles such as the PS1, N64 and Dreamcast, sometimes even playing it more than all of those.

My only instance of owning a Sega CD was back in the Spring of 1998, when after feverishly looking for one all over NYC, I finally found a mint Model 2 CD at FuncoLand for just $10. Little did I know that I couldn't find games ANYWHERE for it in my area, including my most sought-out one: Sonic CD. I only got to own two games: "Cliffhanger" (bought new from a clearance bin in K-B Toys for about $5) and "Silpheed" ($20 used) before I just let it outside in the trash w/a Model 2 Genesis and a label-less copy of "Mortal Kombat 3" attached to it a couple of months later.

I once owned a 32X for about a week in the Spring of 2001. I got it mint, in-box and complete for $20........except that it was missing the damn cable that connected between the Genesis and 32X. Not wanting to search for such an elusive cable, it was Game Over for that 32X and I returned it within a week and traded it for a new copy of "Rival Schools: United by Fate" for PS1 (which I've long since sold off regrettably).

First time I played Genesis was at my cousins house soon after I was bothering my Father for it but he said it was too much money. Next christmas came along and my uncle got it for me as a surprise. Great system, it was so good I didnt get another console until Dreamcast came out.

NES -> Genesis -> Dreamcast -> PS2

Sega is a great company but they have to get back to their roots.

Well, I got an NES in 1990 for christmas because my cousin's had one and had played theirs. A couple years later, I want to say 92, they got a Genesis Model 1 with Streets of Rage 2 pack in. When I played it the first time I had never even heard of Streets of Rage and was like "wow, this is pretty fun." Aside from that, the only good game I knew of was Sonic. Well, they got a few more games, nothing great: Battletech, Urban Strike, Sonic 2 (awesome), T2: the arcade game, Lotus Turbo Challenge, Spiderman and the X-men: Arcade's Revenge, and maybe one or two more. Overall, aside from Sonic 2 and SOR 2, nothing but a bunch of boring and excessively hard games. It also didn't help my perception because everyone told me the SNES had better graphics and was just better all around, so finally in 1994 I got an SNES.

Fast forward to 97 when I first got my N64. I was over at the next door neighbor's house playing Goldeneye and for some reason I ended up on their computer and discovered an SNES emulator. I was like "WTF? OMG cool!" To my surprise, they had them for mac as well. At first I was disappointed because I thought all the games would be in PC format, but then I realized they were universal NES, SNES, and Genesis ROMs and not system specific, so as a mac owner, I was thrilled. I played lots of SOR 2 and Sonic, but aside from that I mostly stuck to SNES or played on my N64 or my store bought PSX emulator (Connectix Virtual Game Station).

Fast forward again to 2007. After years of playing on emulators, I finally start hearing people talk on the internet how much better it is to play the games on real systems, etc. I learned that you can actually clean cartridges to make them work and that they are nearly indestructible. After finding out how cheap NES, Genesis, and SNES cartridges are in stores, on eBay, and on Amazon, I started to buy all of the games I had been emulating over the years. I also bought from a small computer repair store that sold games on the side. One day, I asked about a bunch of games in a tub in a cabinet behind the counter, the owner said "oh, most of those are broken or stuff I don't want to sell" and I asked if I could look around anyway. He started pulling out a bunch of games and accessories including a few Game Genies and a 32X (with AC adapter and connector cable). He ended up giving me a whole bunch of Game Genies (2 Gen, 1 NES) and the 32X and a couple other odds and ends from there. So, now that I had a 32X, I had to get a Genesis. Eventually, they got a model 2 Genesis in (in REALLY good shape I might add, spare for the non-working reset button) and I finally owned my first real Genesis, with a 6 button controller no less, and a couple games like SF II:SCE and the Sonic trilogy. A few months later I picked up a Sega CD from Play N Trade and now I have probably close to 100 Genesis games, especially if you include Sega CD and 32X games. Now I realize that all these years the Genesis was actually better than the SNES in alot of ways, but I had never heard of most of the best games on the system until recently, if only Sega had marketed the good games instead of the terrible athlete endorsed sports titles and FMV games.

My history is fairly recent, but pretty long:

It all started last year, when I started to repair NESes. The shop that I would get the broken consoles from happened to have 3 supposedly dead Genesis Model 1s in their "junk pile". First one I brought home was the VA7 Model 1(yeah, the crappiest one). It was working fine except for the RF output that was a bit loose(mind you, I didn't have any Genesis A/V cables at the time), until I plugged a controller in. Button B and C and D-pad right would not respond. I tried to fix the port, but had no luck.
Then, I got another one, which was the first revision to incorporate the TMSS BIOS(it said "High Definition Graphics" on it). I couldn't fix it. I added separate A/V jacks, as the RF unit in the console was dead, but it wouldn't load past the TMSS BIOS.
Following that, I was given a working Model 1 with the EXT port removed. This console's dead, as its CXA1145 fried and needs to be replaced.
I had seen the Model 2 Genesis while I was getting my first Model 1s, and preferred its styling and size, so I decided to get one. Lo and behold, I hated it. It was a VA1.8, equipped with Samsung's God-awful KA2195D. It looked disgusting compared to my Model 1s. I tried replacing the KA2195D with the CXA1145M from my first Genesis, but failed, so the console's dead.
The shop had more Model 2s, some of which had the CXA1645 in them. I got the VA2 and brought it home to install S-Video. I was blown away by the superb image. However, it has horrible PSG, so it's currently sitting in my drawer of spare consoles.
I then got a VA3 Model 2 to integrate a 32X into(I didn't own one at the time), but I ended up killing it attempting to add VGA to it.
A long while afterwards, I got my hands on another VA1.8 Model 2 that was with a Sega CD, complete in the Sega CD's box. The Genesis is sitting my drawer of spare consoles, as its audio has major scratching that really hurts my ears, but the Sega CD is in use.
I then managed to find a 32X complete in box, which I needed ASAP at the time, as I had 2 32X games, but nothing to play them on.
I had then gotten another no-EXT Model 1 to mod. Mods have been successful except for an overclock that nearly killed the system. It still works despite that mishap.
After discovering TmEE's Crystal Clear Audio Mod, I wanted to try it out. So, I got a third VA1.8 Genesis 2 to apply the mod. It died when solder dropped onto the ASIC.
In between those 2 consoles, I got a second VA7 Model 1 to see how bad the audio really is. It sucks hard. So, I used that to add TmEE's audio mod with success, but have to redo the circuit as it was very unstable.
The last Genesis item I bought was a VA1 Model 2 for multi-region play. So far, no mods have been put on.

Wellity... my first console was a SNES, with SFII and that bulky old scope (most of which has mysteriously disappeared! Still have the SNES though :)) Some time later (can't've been much more than a year) my dad won a MD1 / MCD, plus 20 random games, from some phone competition thing. It was like Christmas come early when that lot arrived :)
First game I played for the MD was Sonic 2, & then all those games on the 5-in-1 MCD compilation. I played the machines for ages during the 90s, but I still have them, and they still work fine - aside from the MD's dodgy reset button.

Heh, at the time I literally could not find anyone or any place that was willing to take in a Genesis. The Genesis market was FLOODED in '98 and unlike SNES, people were just friggin' tired of the thing by that point. It was saturated with too many Majesco re-releases (courtesy of the warehouse-loads of unsold cartridges that both Sega and Acclaim had left-over), and the readily available "Genesis 3". Hell, any Model was easy to come by, as were the games.

I waited with baited breathe till they hit the shelves and bought the first one in my neighborhood. I only ended up with about 30 or so games and they were mostly the early ones (mostly not so hot).

That's the bad thing with a new system. You buy the games as soon as they hit the shelves and I bought many a dud. It really leaves a bad taste in your mouth if you know what I mean. I really like the fact that after being out of the hobby for so long... I have TONS of information at my disposal now. I research to see what games sound like my favorite style of play.

I then try to pull them up on youtube and actually see what the gameplay is like. Man... that would have been priceless back in the day. We are soooo lucky now with all of the info we have and the forums. I just wish I had not sold my system all those years ago.

It's been the same system (Genesis 2) since Christmas '93. A couple times it decided not to work, so I left it for a good 3-4 months then it's good as new. Eventually I meet a friend who actually had a Genesis in his family since launch (4 older siblings help that) and also a Sega CD which stopped working right before we met (SO CLOSE! lol)

So that was a major factor in us even talking at all for a good 2 years. Eventually he got other systems (N64, Gamecube) and gave me his Genesis 1 and the broken Sega CD to see if I could fix it. It was beyond help. So I have to this day a useless CD in a drawer. Meanwhile, Genesis's last Christmas on the market brings along a Genesis 3, along with Monopoly and NFL '98.

I eventually meet my current best friend simply because others told me that he was the only other Genesis player in my particular art class. We got along based on that. I still haven't seen the collection he speaks of, but just talking to him about certain obscure games ( I morphed into a mole-rat thing and was underground. Then there was a trivia game. "Earthworm Jim 2?" THAT'S IT! AWESOME!) shows me he's played before.

Meanwhile, Nick steals $100 from me for a 32X and 10 games.

3 years ago new friend asks me if I could bring over my system because he hasn't played in 4 years. I decide to bring my other friends Genesis 1. He keeps it up till about a month ago when older friend asks me if I have his TV cord since newer friend lost it (or I did, whatever). We go buy a new one cheap and he finally gets to try out Beggar Prince, and watch as he beats Shining Force II again in a 3 days.

Wow, lets see. I remember it like it was yesterday. The year was 1993, and my cousin had owned his Genesis for a year or two, I think. I know for a fact that he owned at least Street Fighter II SFC, Ren and Stimpy: Stimpy's Invention and Sonic 2. I remember always wanting to go over to their place and play it, and in fact I always used to. It was either 1994 or 1995 when I received my original Genesis (model two - the "core" package with Sonic 2), and I believe it was slightly before my birthday because on my birthday I received NBA Jam TE. Maybe I got another game, but slowly but surely my collection grew and I grew fond of many games such as the aforementioned Ren and Stimpy, T2 the Arcade Game, Bill Walsh College Football, NHL 95, etc.

Well, all was not fun and games, because about a year after getting my paper route (this would be about July 1998 - summer between 6th and 7th grades), I made a rash decision to go and trade in my Genesis and what I believe was upwards of 100 games nearly straight up for a N64 with Starfox (?). Well, I kept that for about two years and right before I dropped my paper route for good and then finally got the right mind to trade it back in for my Genesis - the damn N64's second controller port didnt work!

Anyways, after getting it back, I picked up the majority of the 100+ games I had before I turned it in - some of them were the exact same copies of the games I had traded in. Well, over time I have rarely lost interest in my Genesis and now I write for this site. I have gradually picked up more and more games and systems, but I still think that my first batch of games was way better than the one I have now. Luckily now I have a 32X, but still I would rather just download the games and play them on an emulator.

Genesis Does.

My first contact with Genesis was in 1992, where i bought it (a Model 1) from a friend with Sonic 1 (Jap), Streets of Rage 1 and Revenge of Shinobi. Over the years i got more and more games (about 1 Game all 3 Months), and also rented games. In 1994 i got a sega mega cd 2 (which i just bought becaus of Final Fight CD). Also i got Sonic CD, Black Hole Assault and Spiderman (loved the soundtrack). With the release i sold my Genesis + CD and about 30 Games for (today) 70 Euro to buy a playstation...

Heh - a lot of you guys were young and/or came into the genesis arena late in the game. That means you missed the best period - pre '92 1/2 ;)

Best (NES/FC) games were made in 1991...1993

It was Summer of ’94. My sister bought a Genesis and a Sega CD just for the Mortal Kombat CD with the CD-quality music. Though, in retrospect, it kinda sucked, I got obsessed with it to the point that I was enjoying it more than she was.

Flash forward to Xmas 1994. My sister gets me my very own Genesis. Sonic 2 is a pack-in. History is made. Later on, she gives me her old Sega CD and all her old Genesis/Sega CD games when she upgrades to a more high-tech/trendy system.
