*Edit* I guess I have more than one question..
While fiddleing around with the BIOS, I found that you can change the Disc drive speed and Texture mapping, what happens when I do this.
Also, when I change the aspect ratio to 16:9, it's still 4:3, and black bars come from up and down the screen. When I change my TV to "widescreen zoom" it acts like I'm stretching 4:3 to 16:9. Is that normal?

I've never found a reason to mess about with disc speed and textures on my PS2(s); could it be to do with a hi-res TV and cutting down on loading times, or muck like that?Quote:

This 'disc speed' and 'texture' business could be to do with PSone emulation; you get similar options when playing PSone games on the PSP. Some games were possibly designed to exact hardware specifications, and so when played on something not a PSone may work incorrectly.

The smoothing thing is for PSOne games to look nicer. However, you have to set it each time you want to use it. So semi-useless/annoying.
The aspect things are simply fucked up. Sony probably just added it to seem like the feature exists. Lying is a good business model.
The texture AND disc speed are both only for PSOne games and work pretty well; however, the texture filter can cause slight graphic glitches sometimes, but it is worth a try; many PS1 games benefit much from it, the textures become N64-like smudged-smooth.
And RE4 looks gorgeous on PS2; itīs dumb to say otherwise just because there are versions that look even better; and the GCN version only looks A LITTLE better anyway.
I got the Wii version first, and I've been told that version has the same bonus features. The only games I have for it so far are Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3.Quote:

DC just did it if you had it. I also think almost every single game supported it because it was as simple as adding a small file that enables it.
If you had a VGA box hooked up, the Dreamcast would output 480p if available. If not, then it wouldn't output anything. Not all component video-supporting TVs and monitors support 480p. Even on the Gamecube you have to hold a button down to enable 480p. The Wii handles it a little better by enabling 480p support in the Wii Menu system if you have a component cable attached. But not all Wii games support 480p or even 16:9, and it still does not send out an auto-16:9 flag with the video like it should.

The disc speed makes the games load faster, but for certain games (especially ones that load continuously) can cause them to freeze/crash.
The texture options increase the resolution a little bit and help smooth the textures out some. Most of the time it looks better, but any 2D sprites will usually have a line around them that would've been invisible in regular mode. One example is in Gran Turismo 2 all the cars look much better, but the trees trackside (2D sprites) have 1~2 pixel boxes around them.
Generally, I'd say always play with improved textures but leave the disc speed alone unless its a game like the original Wipeout that has 2 hour load times (seems like it anyway) and don't freeze with it on.
buy Gran Turismo 3 NOW! Its like $4 complete/mint tops and is the best racing/driving game to date. I also recommend the Metal Slug compilation, The Red Star (fighting/shooter, its awesome), Grand Theft Auto (your pick on which one), Sly Cooper, shit, there's way too many, just go into a game store and scoop up an armful and walk out.Quote:
