admirable creators

What are the video game creators you most admire? The two that are foremost in my mind are Yu Suzuki and Tomonobu Itagaki. I haven't actually played any of Itagaki's mind but he's very entertaining to listen to. Some may say he's arrogant and even inconsistent but any flaws present of him are far outweighed by the positives. The people that are jealous of him are likely people that are insecure of how much he overshadows them in terms of his hard work and confidence, his unwavering devotion to not only not deviate from having simple fun and not foolishly glorifying it but also knowing when it's time to get down to business. Basically he works hard and plays hard.

Hideo Kojima, but only because he shares a love of Ah-nuld movies.

Goichi Suda. I really feel like he is a creator with whom I can relate. Hideo Kojima was another good one but mostly in his earlier years. Since MGS 2 I haven't really 'gotten' what he is about.

Suzuki and yuji naka. Miyamoto from nintendo of course. Cliffy B and John Carmack.

I disagree about Kojima having been better in earlier years; he has highly improved since MGS1.
Yu Suzuki on the other hand....Sega tried to hype him as a new Miyamoto, but he is not; his masterpiece Shenmue is nothing but an entertaining, yet limited Adventure.

Yu IS Sega's Miyamoto; keep in mind that up until the release of the Sega Saturn (as far as Japan goes) when Sega really started becoming serious about console development, they were primarily and gaining most of their profits from the arcades. And Yu and co. have continued to knock 'em out of the park as far as arcade releases go.......in Japan!


Still, he's nowhere near as good of a console developer as the primarily-console developing Miyamoto is. "Vermilion" sucks and I haven't the patience to deal with the flaws and slow pace of the admittedly decent "Shenmue".


Yuji Naka??? Yeah, Sega's golden boy for a while, who along with Sonic Team completely resuscitated Sega's dead-in-the-water console profits and success. But he fizzled out by the end of the 32-Bit era, and never achieved the consistency or greatness of Miyamoto. Flash-in-the-pan.

Need the gossip! :D Hironobu Sakaguchi was doing fine with the Final Fantasy Series, until Tetsuya Nomura started throwing in Gackt* and other carbon copies into every other f**king RPG he's directed after FF7.

Another creator I respect is Alexey Pajitnov (made Tetris and 'officially' released it at the same time I was born, apparently)...

I like Phenix Rie. She had great, innovative visions of how games should be, and her design was always top notch.

Of course Hideo Kojima.
I love Snatcher, and I imagine that I would love Policenauts too if I could be bothered to play it with an english tutorial. Except with MGS1 and especially MGS2 he took a huge step forward IMO in storytelling and created the only video game series that I care enough about to know the creators name.

Yu Suzuki. He's probably kept in stasis somewhere in Sega HQ, though, because nobody's heard from him in aaaages.

Hideo Kojima, Goichi Suda and Yu Suzuki. And how any one can forget the brilliant Tim Schafer, is beyond me.

Who is Tim Schafer?

I ONLY admire creators who wear an AIDS and/or breast cancer ribbon (same thing). It shows that they care. You can't care if you don't wear the ribbon. Without the ribbon, cures will never arrive.

What about creators that have AIDS and/or breast cancer themselves? Do they need a ribbon too?
