man, this game is ridiculous! I can almost beat SF II on the hardest difficulty, I can wreck shop in Mortal Kombat, I'm reasonably proficient in Samurai Showdown, but this game is totally dominating me! Some fights I can't even get one hit to connect! is there some video that breaks down the fighting system so its a little less impossible to play? It seems like a great game based on the technical merit of the graphics and the complexity of the moves, but its so damn hard!
Yeah, EC really is damn hard...What makes it even more frustrating is that losing a match throws you back to the opponent you had beaten before your loss....
Yeah, EC hands everyone their ass.
The Sega CD version is soooo much better...
really? is it any easier? if so, I'll probably pick it up. I mean, it shows alot of promise, but its so hard its like throwing a 5 year old in the ring with the UFC champion of the world. And, like I said, I consider myself to be relatively good at 1 on 1 fighting games, I still have yet to play another human (as opposed to a computer) that can consistently beat me at SF II (of course I've never played in a tournament or anything either).Quote:

Easier in the sense that the controls are a whole hell of a lot more responsive and everything is just more polished. It's still bloody hard.Quote:

The last part of the trilogy was going to be "Eternal Champions: The Final Chapter" for the Sega Saturn. It was even advertised with promo cover art (pretty similar to Challenge From The Dark Side US cover) showed in early US Sega Saturn boxes.Quote:

Nope, apparently it hadn't gotten off the ground much before it was canned, due to pressure/politics from Sega of Japan who wanted to push "Virtua Fighter" as their flagship fighting game franchise in the U.S. Hell, by that period Sega of Japan was the one calling most of the shots in the U.S, and they more than ever put lots of stock on their home console (the Saturn) and did it their way, damning any U.S efforts if need be.

when I was a kid I beat the EC on the mega drive with all the characters except Jetta.
sometimes you got be cheap and play the clock. I do that with Xavier as he easily grabs you and throw you on the ground.
it is not a button smashing game. so I don't understand the control problem you have. the skills in the original is how you behave and position your fighter in the game.. it is not how well you can press fireballs or uppercuts on the D-PAD.
the mega-cd version improved the cinekills but it is a let down in every other aspects IMO. the music is crap (trident's music in the original was brilliant with the splashes as fighters jumped in the water), the sound effect of punches suck ball. Why in hell does heavy punches/kicks in the mega-cd version sound likes the weak punches/kicks in the megadrive version?
I don't know if you were directing that at me, but Samurai Shodown and even SF II and Mortal Kombat aren't just a button smasher, especially on harder difficulty levels. In fact, in Samurai Shodown, certain characters will counter you every single time you use a fireball and you will never get a hit in if you don't try something else. If you have to be cheap and play the clock, that is reason enough to not even play the game. Any game that REQUIRES you exploit cheap glitches to win is stupid. A fighting game is about tricking the other player into vulnerability, not hopping around avoiding them because you got 2 punches in and are just waiting for the clock to let you win. I'm sure eternal champions would be fun against a human player with real vulnerabilities, but against a computer that will block everything and has no variable difficulty, its just not fun.Quote:

Apparently the CD sequel has something like 15 multiplayer modes, yeah? Anyone have a list? I'm curious...
EC looked like a game that could have been so amazing if it werent for a few things:
1) Its so god damned difficult that it turns out not worth playing after about a half hour of play, even though I will say that it is a damn good fighting game.
2) There arent any home run characters that I can find. Each player is mediocre when I play as them (except for Xavier, (the guy with the staff with the green emerald on the end)) and you end up getting smoked past the first or second round.
I still like and respect the game, I just think that Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter II SFC are clearly better Genesis fighting games, at least in my book.
The problem with EC was that the computer cheated like hell!
While you as the player had to use Chi in order to work your special moves, the computer didn't! Furthermore, you could "taunt" the opponent in order to decrease his or hers chi, but while it worked when the computer used it on you, it didn't the other way round.
I usually did pretty well, but I admit using an Action Replay in order to get past Jetta, since it was impossible for me to beat her once she used her abilities to jump around at ridiculous speeds...

Thats the same as me. But when i got this game i thought holy sh$t. Its hard
