Your Dream Console

If you could make a console what would it be...

Format = Cartridges
Reason : Jump/Junk/Thumb drives are so cheap and can contain so much now, A current day cartridge home console wouldn't suffer issues that plauged the N64. Also CD's get scratched faster then you can say
"scratched", You can't scratch a Cartridge and (almost all) Carts are more durible then a tank.

Software library : anyone who can make a QUALITY game that doesn't crash,
will get my seal of quality. commodore 64-esqe garage devolopers unite !

Apperance : It would be the size of an SNES but would look like a genesis.
2 controller ports, with no regional lock-out. It would be made with the same plastic as the N64, that nice N64 durible chasis plastic.

- Cartridge based
- cart. slot cleaners would be well in production and advertised
- no region lock-out
- anyone who can make a game can apply for a seal of quality

My dream system would have both a cartridge slot & the capability to play CD's. It would only be the size of a cigar box, but weigh 66.376089 lbs. It will be region free, but PAL games will only be released for black & white TV's. One controller port, but the controllers will be daisy chained together. The controller will be the same size as an atari jaguar controller but only have one button and a D-pad the size of a dime. The AC power supply will be the size of a normal brick and also weigh roughly 60lbs. The CD games will have CD quality sound but have no improvement in any other form. The Cartridges/CDs will have an amazing color palette, amazing 2-D visuals but the Cartridge versions will only have limited sound (think of an Atari 5200 at best). It will only come with RF too. The three games that will be released before the console is discontinued, will, however, be amazing. I forgot to mention that the cartridges will be the same size as the Nintendo DS cartridges, and will come in matchbox sized boxes for your convenience... the instructions will come in the form of a photo slide. In order to read them, you will have to purchase my console's exclusive peripheral: a unique projector that the slide is placed into. You turn on our special projector and bam! the games directions are neatly out of focus and prominently displayed on any light colored wall for your enjoyment.

I suggest you all line up, this console will be so valuable one day that it will blow you away.

When they splice together a Saturn and a Neo Geo is when the ultimate system will be made. I call it.....the NEO SATURN. Anything else...would be trash.

Anything else is variable. Wasn't EA thinking of releasing a console all by themselves? That and this got me to thinking of why not have a gaming machine dedicated for this kind of thing.

This sounds good to me as well.

If I designed from the ground up:

Slot loading bluray drive
Graphics keeping up with PC GPU's DX10 and physics processing etc
Use insulating foam and watercooling to keep things quiet and cool
Quad core 4ghz cpu
Wireless remotes that turn system on/off
Custom lighting system (choose your color!)

Basically a PC for my living room/tv which would be way to expensive and way to complicated haha.

My dream console would have....

-a cart slot; today you can buid cheap but pretty big cartridges using flash-chips
-many USB-ports; to let you run programs like emulators or homebrew games from any USB stick or to use add-ons like blu-ray drives etc
-A big HDD
-it should allow installation of other OS and other proggies
-Wireless communinaction between consoles not too far away
-broadband
-wireless joypads
-no region-lockout and standard 50/60 Hz switch
-Extremely low power consumption
-no license fees so that small developers may produce for the system
-and of course fantastic specs; 10 Ghz, 5000 MByte RAM ect

I have to wait for at last half a century for my dream machine, the technology is not as advanced yet ;)

Mine would have 2 cpus, a 68k @ 12MHz and a Z80 @ 4MHz. It would be able to display 4096 colors simultaneously (palette of ~65K) and everything would be a sprite (i.e., no background or whatever layers, just all sprites). It would use cartridges but the cartridges would have to be roughly the size of textbooks and have two PCBs in them (and thus requiring two edge connectors on the console). Sound would be through a Yamaha 2610 with 7 channels reserved for digital effects. Controllers would be 4-button joysticks (+ start / select, of course) but I might eventually release some pads for it for the people who can't handle a stick.

Uhh, and also a DVD drive and a gig of RAM, because it seems like a good idea. They don't even really need to be connected. You could probably just put them in a box next to the rest of it and call it a day.

A Megadrive, except with more sound channels and HD output. It should be supported for 60 years so I never have to buy more consoles.

ok, having no region lockout is an impossibility. I know this thread has already gone off in the bullshit wagon, but the whole reason region lockouts exist is to keep certain games in their designated region (i.e. green blood and 50Hz for europe, japanese language for Japan, etc.). Region lockout started because people would import games and it would confuse parents and customers and they would buy games that wouldn't work well and parents would blame Nintendo or Sega for it instead of the dipshit shop. Region lockout isn't there to keep you from playing your favorite obscure shooter, there is a much bigger reason than that.

Isn't PS3 region free

Why go with the boring "I'm going to use the biggest number I can think of for CPU gigahertz and gigabytes for RAM and Hardrives" If you know a video game console will be out like that anyway in a few years.

Why do we need still better graphics if they already have polygons that are even smaller than the pixel themselves?



A machine capable of 65536 sprites onscreen at one time, with cartridges with 960 megabits, with a sound chip with 8 square, 1 noise, 4 PCM, 8 supersaw channels, now that will be interresting!
