so i guess leaving the 32x the way it is (as in the picture) I can just solder the IC pin and the little point from the path that was previously connected to the IC pin (before I mess it up). Applying that to a switch with 5V there should be no need to mess around with the 0 ohm resistor.
I get a buzzing noise (from the speakers of my tv) on my Megadrive 2 / 32x combo (with the metal clips attached), which kinda go's away or you just dont hear it when the music and sfx come on in the games, however on the loading / booting up screens its really loud and annoying sometimes. I figured it was the 32x so removed it and tried the MD2 on its own and it STILL buzzes, so im guessing its something wrong with the MD not the 32x. what component wear would cause this?
My MD1 / MEGA CD MK1 combo does NOT have this annoying buzzing so most of the time i find myself using that for my Megadrive games, however its ashame because the MD2/32X combo does have a better picture quality and stereo sound, just the buzzing ruins it a bit! im tempted to buy a new MD2 to see if it solves the problem
I received today a Usa NTSC 32x, to complement my PAL one (since I didn't want to risk anymore trying to mod it), but I immediately noticed it's VERY noisy, it sounds exactly like hard drive interferences.
I tried it for about an hour and it never failed, but the noise really bothered me. I remembered reading this topic a while ago, so I took a good read and saw it should be an expected behaviour from some units, though both my pal and ntsc are VA0. I have yet to disassemble it, but it's like new and I don't think it's worth the waste of time.
Then, I've read that adjusting the voltage reduced the noise. I'm using the same SEGA power adapter for both, so it shouldn't be an issue, and I tried it on my multimega, too, with no different result: the buzz is there even playing genesis games.
The strangest thing is that after that hour of playing, the Genesis power adapter was very, very hot, while the sega cd and 32x were cool. That never happened with the PAL 32x.
Any ideas?
My 32X has lots of video interference, squealing and sizzling from the system itself and LOTS of video interference. I figured out that removing the metal shielding actually stopped some of the squealing but its still there... what should i do? recap? It's a VA0 by the way.
My 32x (VA0), too noisy (noise device itself). What exactly emits noise, I do not know. But the reason - the shield. Remove it, the noise disappears.
Look video (make the volume to maximum)

More affect the noise of the plate. If they are removed, the noise disappears, too. So to speak, breaking the connection with a shield console.

Hmm I have 2 genesis 32X that I bought for repairs in which both just needed the simple cart pins cleaned and the 2 ribbon cables re aligned and both have been running for hours with no issues. Tho 1 of them (both VA0) has this loud buzzing noise coming from the 32X. opened it up and sure enough is seems my noise issue is coming from the exact same power inductor as the OP but mine are the opposite. The blue power inductor is the one making the noise and the other which doesn't is the black one.
I can not see the OP's photos so have put up my own:

what specs do I need so I can find a replacement?
So far the schematics just say its a 330uH choke coil. I can find a choke coil local with these specs: 330uH, 0.62A, 0.657 DC resistance, 12mm x 10mm, pin pitch 5mm.
Ugh, yeah, the buzzing noise. My 32X also has visual and audio interference, though I'm not sure if it's the 32X or the cable -- jiggling the cable from the 32X to the Genesis often seems to reduce it. I also did finally manage to get rid of the audio buzzing by plugging red and white RCA cables into the Sega CD and using that for audio, instead of the cable from the Genesis -- those cables have no buzzing sound, the audio is perfect. There is still some occasional lines in the picture though, probably from that same issue because the video is, of course, still coming from the Genesis. Ah well, that's much more bearable than that horrible audio buzz was.
