I'm sorry, but everyone thinks it. AND BEFORE EVERYONE NIT-PICKS WHAT I SAY TO FUCKING DEATH, ACCTUALLY READ WHAT I'M SAYING.

Okay... Vista. Imagine a top-of-the-line PC, like my new HP. It comes with vista, and on the surface Vista isn't that bad, but if you use a computer for more then e-mail, you now about the flaws. I HAVE 4 COMPLAINTS

Annoyance 1 - Forget all your happy memories

# 1 - First off, why can't I use MPEG4, anyone who uses a camera and records family videos or makes youtube movies (such as myself) knows that digital cam-corders use MPEG4. So Vista is lacking a codec that lets the audio part of an MPEG4 play, so with that, the MPEG doesn't play at all. Gee, everyone loved XP and maybe people have good memories they recorded. They probably have them on Disc or USB drive, so let's make Vista incompatible with MPEG4 so that our users can never see those memories again. HOW DID THEY FUCK UP SO BAD, HOW DID THIS EVEN LOOK GOOD ON PAPER. :mad:

# 2 - Good luck watching MP4's. Maybe if you uploaded those memories to youtube ( LIKE ME DAMNMIT, IN BOTH CASES MP4 AND MPEG4 ). There are many sites that can download Youtube movies into an MP4 so you can put it on an Ipod or delete the MPEG4 and redownload it because MP4 has a smaller file size. Well if you downloaded some of your favorite youtube movies or even any movie from the internet, fuck off because no compatabilty here. :mad:

Annoyance 3 - No Game compatablity

# 3 - Do you like PC ports of games like Metal Gear Solid, do you like classic PC games like Sam & Max, DOOM, Leisure Suit Larry, and other Adventure & FPS games from that era. Well, hope you don't look forward to playing them because Windows deleted one Single DLL, ONE PISS-ANT DLL that prevents you from playing PC games that aren't Warcraft. I don't know if you can run DOS-BOX but why would you want to, all the music in the games don't emulate good at all and sound garbeled, and that's sad because some of the early Sound-card using PC games had great sound tracks, AND HOW CAN AN OPERATING SYSTEM EVEN BE CALLED AN OPERATING SYSTEM IF IT CAN'T EVEN RUN DOOM, DOOM IS 2.33 MB BIG. A BABY'S TOY COULD RUN DOOM, DOOM CAN RUN ON A TI-83 CALCULATOR... DEAD FUCKING SERIOUS. DON'T BELEIVE DOOM RUNS ON TI-83 CALCULATORS (OR ATLEAST ITS EMULATION) CLICK THE LINK BELOW.

Note : YES I PUT THEM IN THE INSTRUCTED PLACE, or atleast downloaded in the general area.

Yeah you heard right, you can download them (OR PUT THEM IN THE INSTRUCTED PLACE) and restart your PC, but when your PC restarts, It's like a cruel April fools joke. The Downloads don't do Donkey Dick, yes I know the exact titles of what I need, but when i Download them then restart my PC it says what it said before and ignores the download altogether. It's like when one of your friends plays a joke on you, but then doesn't know when to stop, yeah it's like that feeling.

BEFORE YOU PICK APART EVERYTHING I'VE SAID READ THIS, YOU NEED TO READ THIS IF YOU'RE GOING TO BE ANAL ABOUT EVERYTHING.

Conclusion : Vista was in production in 2001, so maybe back then they figured we would have moved on and no longer needed these features, but XP was out and is still out and people still need all of these features so why the hell didn't they go and add in all the important features they stripped out before they hastily shoved this out the door in 2007. WHAT THE FUCK WAS GOING THROUGH THEIR HEADS.

I don't know about your MP4 problem, but otherwise I've never had a problem with compatibility. You simply need to eliminate all your security setting and get rid of the permission shit and far more stuff will work. Vista just needs to be tinkered with like crazy.

My vista computer has never had a problem running any video game I've ever attempted to install either. From Shogun Total War to Medieval Total War II to Dune 2000 to Vice City to Doom.

In fact, this computer is the ONLY microsoft computer I've ever owned that after two straight years has not completely slowed down to a halt. It has not required a hard-drive wipe or anything. This has by far been the most consistently reliable (knock on wood) windows product I've ever owned. I may be the only happy customer, but it gets the job done.

My old windows computers would always get full of spam/viruses and slow to a halt (this may have had something to do with the massive amount of porn being downloaded to it at the time but that's another issue entirely...) anyway Vista isn't that bad. But all I do is play a handful of PC games, do college work and watch DvDs...so I'm happy.

Oh and I forgot to mention the other advantage it has: it's not an apple. I hate apple, and damn them for making the iPod because the iPod's competition is useless...but I got it for free so my principle of never buying apple products has not been betrayed...

I like vista though it is a bit of a powerhog and does have some compatibility issues (none for me though thankfully) my biggest problem with it is finding where everything is etc since things have been moved around alot.

Its not all bad though not as bad as people say, I run it on my alienware and its fine

for codec issue, you download a codec.... I'm a win98se user, and there's no MPEG4 codec... I downloaded one.

for compatibility issues with DOS games, Win2K and beyond were never meant to run DOS games... and for their sound, all of it would be emulated when you're not using DOS or Win9x and real Sound Blaster compatible card.... in my cases, the Win emulation has always failed. I love my Yamaha YMF719 sound card and Win98SE.

for DLL issues, I either find an upgrade, import one from XP, or use www.dll-files.com

The first thing I do after formatting a machine and starting fresh is to install the K-Lite Codec Megapack. It'll let Media Player play pretty much anything you throw at it. If you really don't want to use Media Player, try the VLC program - no codec issues there. It's awful as a library program, though, which is really the reason I use Media Player in the first place.

[edit] 'Eliminate security setting'? What? User Account Control is finally a step towards ensuring users are warned when stuff is doing stuff that can seriously mess with their system. It's Microsoft's sudo, and it's about time.

After reading through half of the first post, all I could think was:

Install a codec.
There's no reason vista should guarantee support for legacy platforms and games made more than 10 years ago.

As for other issues I hear about, in all honesty, microsoft gave the 3rd party manufacturers plenty of time to make vista fully functional with their hardware as well, they sat on their asses while microsoft kept going ahead with it.

All this is nothing worth bitching and moaning about on microsofts part.
If you want a valid reason to hate Vista, hate it for it's slower performance, more wasted resources, and completely ass backwards networking protocols.

I used to work tech support for them when they launched, You can't believe how many ignorant fucks would call to want to sue bill gates because their printer company didn't decide to roll out new drivers, and opted to force a hardware upgrade cycle.

I got a really big kick out of the almost scripted response of

"I'm AN AMERICAN! I HAVE RIGHTS! IM GOING TO HAVE YOUR JOB WHO IS CANADAS ATTOURNEY GENERAL?"

Whenever I had to explain to them how their hardware company are responsible to make sure it works with the OS.

In a perfect world, everyone would be using linux, and intellectually damned know-nothing consumers would be silenced, or at least castrated for talking out of their asses. LOL JK

One things for sure, microsoft seemingly bombed with vista, and their next release will be all that much better for it.
They'll look like geniuses by introducing practical and sensible performance. And Windows XP will finally be surpassed in view of the masses.

Bloated for your needs, perhaps. All I mainly use my laptop for is media: I've got all my CDs and most of my DVDs backed-up, everything else is on the Net somewhere. Thanks Google!

I tried the Linux route the same way everyone else does - Ubuntu - and realised how much I missed Windows' 'if it fits, it works' capabilities; it's 2008, I don't want to fiddle with command lines or scour the Net looking for drivers!

Slower after a fresh install and you're restoring all your files, perhaps. Once it's done indexing all your stuff it speeds up a treat, particularly after SP1's installed. Wasted resources? RAM is there to be used! :P No idea about the networking stuff, I just point it to my Wi-Fi network and enter the passphrase.

If you want to be ultra-nerdy, take a look at icloud.com. Entire OS contained inside your Web browser (well, IE-only for now)!

I agree that some people are flat-out ignorant fucks. My only problem is that before I made this thread I did indeed install a codec, but I hate how nobody tells you where the fuck to put it. LINUX, WINDOWS XP, & MAC OSX FTW.

Every time I saw those in a sales flier I just shook my head. I'd tell the girlfriend that there was no way in hell a machine of those specs was going to run Vista.

I remember people saying that Vista would like like shit on 1gig, but 512? "Vista Ready" was nothing but a scam.

I enter my world with a "PC" button and have never used a command prompt in my new Linux life. Not to say that I haven't had problems, but not any worse than one would have dealing with a new OS.

I do have to use Vista (via virtual machine) for school.
