Clone Games

I have an odd fascination with clone games whether they be outright clones like Great Giana Sisters and Golden Ax Warriors or unofficial sequels by angry developers like Osman. I now their are tons of these that I have missed. So far this is what comes to mind.

Zelda Clones
Legend of Zelda-Neutopia 1 and 2, Golden Axe Warrior
Link to the Past- Crusader of Centy, though this is debatable

SMB- Great Giana Sisters

Gun Force 2- Lead to Metal Slug , some call it Metal Slug Zero

Strider- Osman

Psycho Fox- Decap Attack, did the same people do this one seeing as it is a Sega Game

MegaMan- Pulse Man possibly.

Castlevania- Master of Darkness

Metroid- Zillion, I have it and don't really agree seems very different to me.

R-Type- Katakis

Way of the Exploding Fist- International Karate

Osman was an unofficial sequel to Strider, kind of like Perfect Dark was to Goldeneye.

I think Zillion is more of a clone of Impossible Mission, myself.

because people don't know any better, probably also because Guitar Freaks is a crazy Japanese game and Guitar Hero is very American/not crazy and has familiar songs so it appeals to more casual gamers.

I have a dream.

I wish they released a special edition of Guitar Hero where you could play the most famous video-game tunes ever, like some Thunder Force, Sonic, Zero Wing, Mega Man, El Viento, Lords of Thunder, Streets of Rage....

How cool would that be?

Just from the screenshots I'd call it that too.

They developed both. Gunforce 2 seems a little crazier to me and the P.O.W.s are replaced with bikini clad girls.

I need to try that gunforce 2. Sounds badass

Just play it on Mame. Very worth it.

Zillion is loosely like impossible mission, but that is a very hard claim to make...you don't even get a gun in impossible mission.

But I like Dark Chambers (7800) which is essentially a Gauntlet clone...I like it better than Gauntlet on the NES but nothing can compete with Gauntlet IV on the Genesis.

Ikari Warriors and Commando are the same game...

This will start some controversy

but Resident Evil is a clone of Alone in the Dark and I love both series...

Zillion 2, on the other hand, sucks balls...they ruined that franchise in a hurry.
