He said, and I quote "it brought graphics and sound that were superior to its number one rival: The Sega Genesis." EXCUSE ME? First of all, like I said before, those are opinions, he didn't say "I found them to be better" he said, point blank that they were, and he calls himself a "video game historian," what a crock of shit. The only reason he doesn't mention the Genesis again in the video is because he already dismissed it as a steaming pile of dogshit next to the "almighty" SNES.
And now to explain to you how retarded the second part of your statement is. I am a Mechanical Engineering major (not a fucking mechanic, an engineer, you know, like the people that would design a car or a space shuttle), I have taken a course that almost exclusively dealt with manufacturing techniques and how to minimize cost for a product, and I can tell you, an eject lever is probably the LEAST money saving feature of the SNES 2. The system was cheaper primarily because IT WAS A SIMPLIFIED CHIPSET, WHICH HE NEVER MENTIONED. Yeah, making it A/V only reduced some cost, removing the parts that go with the expansion port (not just the port itself), as did a few other changes, but an eject lever does not deserve to be included like it saved them $20 a console. The original eject lever was stupid anyway, it wasn't necessary, yet to this day when people buy clone systems they go "OMG! is it OK to just pull it out?" YES! its a goddamn cart slot you idiots!
He also said the SNES 2 was for "newcomers" to be "affordable." How? The playstation was $50 more and games for that could be bought for probably $20 (were greatest hits around yet in 97?). SNES cartridges always cost at least $40 unless they were clearing out old stock. I can't remember how much player's choice carts were, but it definitely wasn't $20. So, once you buy 3 or 4 games, they're the same price, and if you buy more, the PSX is way cheaper and technically superior in EVERY way. Again, another Nintendo fanboy trying to justify every stupid decision Nintendo makes. The Genesis 3 was $20 by comparison and the games were (I believe) something like $10-$20 each. I'm not sure if that was when the Genesis 3 first came out, but I remember seeing an add in the Toys R Us paper with prices about like what I listed.
I'm not annoyed because he prefers Nintendo to Sega or that he was trying to justify the logic of the SNES 2 (which is worse than defending the 32X IMO, the SNES 2 was a complete waste when $50 more would get you a PSX and like 3 new games came out since 95), I'm mad that he calls himself a historian but doesn't know WTF he's talking about and is just breeding more ignorant Nintendo fanboys with incorrect information. Let me put it this way, until I got my PS2, I had nothing but Nintendo systems (spare for Game Gear), and me finally taking the initiative to look into the Genesis has been one of the best decisions I've ever made, but other people aren't going to do the same if they have their head stuck up Nintendo's ass, that's why these videos annoy me (that and he doesn't know shit about the very console he's talking about). I played Super Nintendo last night, I love the SNES, its probably in my top 5 systems (if you let the 32X and Sega CD count with the Genesis), but I'm tired of people treating the Genesis like the bastard stepchild of the 16-bit generation when in reality it was the poor man's Neo Geo (and thats far from being a bad thing).
