Rewind back to late 2006. The PS3 was launching alongside the Wii and geeky editors like ourselves were having a field day. We'd already managed to convince our good pal Ben Heck to build another Xbox 360 laptop and the Wii Laptop, so it was only a matter of time before we started brainstorming on how the hell we could possibly fit a PS3 into a "portable" enclosure. That's the part where Ben stepped up his game and worked his magic -- on and off for almost a year and a half -- to build... the PS3 Laptop!
The essential specs:
Original backwards compatible 60GB model
17-inch LCD HDTV screen: 720p HDMI-DVI connection (same as last Xbox 360 laptop)
Built-in keyboard, USB ports, stereo speakers, headphone jack
Size: 17 x 13.75 x 3-inches
Weight: 16 pounds!
You want this one of a kind piece of kit for your very own, PlayStation fanboys? You got it. We're auctioning this thing for charity real soon, so watch out for details (we'll also have some video of the PS3 Laptop in action on the site tomorrow). And, naturally, big ups to our pal Ben Heck for the long hours and love he put into this thing. The man is truly a hero of ours, so be sure to hit up his site to check out his other projects, as well as the other instructional stuff he's done here on Engadget.

Not nessicarily. I hate blue ray because sony is trying to make a quick buck and trying to get you to buy all the movies YOU ALREADY HAVE. Yes I know it runs DVD's but since I have about 8 full functioning DVD players, and I can go to a dollar general and get one foe $19.99, so I don't need another. I WOULD PAY COLD HARD CASH FOR A GENESIS/SNES/LAPTOP, THAT WOULD BE ONE OF THE GREATEST INVENTIONS EVER.

Elusive
Why would you take a machine that's great for media, and stick it into a comparatively tiny little box, and void the warranty in the process?
It's a great thing to have, but still kind of silly.

You can already do that through emulation. He did make a SNES portable though.
Doesn't Sony already have a laptop that's for media and games... called the VAIO?
I would love to have a Genesis laptop, that would be the BOMB! I have a spare Gen2, I was thinking of donating to someone who could do it, or give it a go myself if I could figure out how to.

That's one of the most ridiculous reasons to hate Blu-ray. Why don't you hate DVD? They were just trying to make a QUICK BUCK getting to rebuy all of the movies you ALREADY HAVE on VHS tape. You do realize Blu-ray is HD and DVD is not anywhere even close, right? DVD is simply not good enough. Let's compare the DVD of The Nightmare before Christmas to the Blu-ray version of the same movie. Pictures were taken off the screen via my digital camera on the same frame for both versions, same TV as well.
Just look at the compression artifacts in the DVD version of that last one. Yeah, I know which one I'd rather have. The only people who "hate" Blu-ray are those who don't own HDTVs.

Someone didn't get the memo that Bluray is HD. HD is for videophiles and for people who want a better picture. The laptop is freaking monstrous, looks like a damn briefcase

Ben Heck is some sort of Wizard/Sorcerer that makes awesome electric things appear.
P.S. I'll love Blu Ray like I love DVD when someone buys me a nice 1080p TV.

QFT. It all comes down to the expense vs. what you gain, and while I can look at those screenshots and see there are some areas where it's cleaned up, do I really think it looks good enough to justify a forced upgrade of the biggest component in my entertainment center? No way. There's even less difference if I compare it against my PC running a DVD through a VGA output to my 36" CRT VGA monitor.
DVD was a massive advance due to the huge increase in picture quality, audio quality (hello, surround sound!), and the simple convenience of not having to rewind the tapes. HD doesn't have the luxury of the practical advantages, plus it has the added "benefit" of all the forced firmware upgrades on the player. I can just see the day when I have to explain to my dad that he's going to have to hook his Blu-Ray player up to the internet and putz around with a firmware update in order to watch Rambo 13 1/2: Sly Goes Wild On Zimbabwe...which he'd have already paid for only to find out it won't work as is? Yeah, that's gonna be a fun day. :P

This thing is like the early laptops :) Except instead of floppy drives, it has blu-ray and HDD :P
Using blu-ray on a non HDTV should still yeld better results than DVD as you don't have compression artifacts all over the screen.... ? Or blu-ray players don't like anything else than HDTV ?

You are correct, TmEE. The jump in picture quality from DVD to Blu-ray (on an HDTV) is FAR more than the jump in picture quality from VHS to DVD. DVD has poor resolution, no matter how you try to dress it up with VGA cables, upscaling and the such, you can't add detail that isn't there. The sound is noticeably better on Blu-ray as well, even on conventional surround systems since the bitrate is higher than can be delivered on DVD. If you go for the uncompressed or lossless surround (with up to 7.1 discrete channels that DVD cannot deliver), then it is amazing.
Blu-ray is for the cool kids. DVD is for homeless people.

my god, after all this I still don't care...
I'll stick to DvD until someone gives me a free blue-ray player with an entire replacement of my dvd library in blue ray...

35mm film kicks Blu-rays ass since it is the source material. Having 35mm prints of movies would make you much more cooler.
