Good China Syndrome

Does anyone else treat their gaming collection like Mom's good China dishes.

"We have them, we pretty them up, but in no way are they gonna be used"

This happens to me a lot. whenever I found my lime clear green N64 that was so mint, new looking it looked like nobody used it. It has switches that are fresh and hard to move. the cartridge slot doors have kung-fu grip. and the ram expantion port that when you got the N64 out of box, had a little plastic nub in with a do not remove sticker on it, That Sticker is still on that nub and the sticker isnt sun faded, finger printed to hell, or peeling. I found this and shit myself. It's stuff like this, you find it and its in such good shape you feel ashamed to use it. It happens to me with records too. 3 weeks ago I found a Minty fresh PS1, and this one was the in the same mint condition as my lime green N64, ON TOP OF THAT, It had a great looking plastion underground carring case with a crisp Dual-shock. for $14.99 I also paid $14.99 for my mint N64 as well. I buy records all the time but scarcely play them to preserve the condtion. I am the only 14 year old boy who knows extensively and takes great care of my games. Other kids I know treat their cartridges like SHIT, They throw them into cardboard boxes, put coke cans on them for coasters, drop them, forcefully shove them into cramped places. I on the other hand have Large Rubber maid containers that I store my games in, annually I give all of my cartridges a good dry q-tip cleaning, and I keep the rubbermaid containers I have them stacked in nice neat and even. Same with my records. I'm weird I guess, Unless someone else has this issue.

Damn I'm not that crazy but I try. I have some doubles like the Gen M1 and M2 in witch case I usually have one mint one I wont use and one crappy one I use to play on.

I treat all my video games like gold. This is one reason I get so pissed when I see game stores trying to sell me used games that are all screwed up. A few days ago I went to get onimush: Dawn of Dreams. It seemed that no one in new york had it except used. These cds that they gave me looked like they been in a woodchipper. I said to myself, how the hell could people treat their games like crap. If your going to pay for something you may as well take care of it.

me and my brother are opposites, I treat my stuff very well, he doesn't care about his stuff... or at least so it seems... while I can have a CD for several years unscratched, he can't for a single day....

Dear god! That's a misleading topic title if I've ever seen one!

First, I thought "What could possibly be GOOD about a China Syndrome?" Then I thought "might it be politically motivated? Does he refer to "Good China" as how we perceive the country? Or Does he mean "Good China" in a reference to the dozens of cheap electronics imitations and software pirates that come from there?"

I never would have thought of DISHES!!!

Nevertheless, it depends. Since I have a couple of game CD's/DVD's that weren't readable any more because of scratches, I've switched to making copies of my original games and playing them if possible. However, I don't treat my cartridge-games very carefully. Most of them are pirates and were bought cheap, anyway. They are precious to me, but it doesn't mean anything to keep them around without ever showing them off! Dishes look nice on the outside - with games, you have to see them in action to behold their true beauty.

I thought the same when I read the title:). I treat my games pretty well but still play the hell out of them. Im just ubber careful in handling my expensive games. I try to keep them put away on the gaming shelf at all times so they don't get stepped on and I usually clean a cartridge I get off ebay before I test it so it doesn't contaminate my systems.

Oh, I definitely take good care of my stuff, probably better care than anyone else on the planet. All of my original systems from when I was a kid still look and work like new. I always kept my NES and SNES games in their respective cases/boxes and always kept my N64 games in their little plastic baggies they came in. My used stuff is just kind of put in tubs, but they are all cleaned and neatly stacked. Though, just an FYI, its actually good for systems to be played to an extent, I would say at least once every 6 months for CD systems to keep the lubrication from drying up/stagnating. Cartridge systems aren't as big of a deal, though playing them every few years is probably a good idea. Oh, and that N64, its not a plastic nub, its a "jump(er?) pack", in other words, the normal RAM cart. If you take that out, the system won't work, its just replaceable with the upgrade RAM expansion that was released later on.

I've reached the point where I have more games than I will probably be able to comfortably play. So yes, I think :(

Im in the same boat. I feel like quiting my job just so I can play them. It would be worth it.

I am a lot like this. I buy most of my games loose, so they're in crappy shape. I hate it when they're in horrid condition, so I'll do what I can to make my games presentable, like printing out scans of cart labels, then getting tem to position perfectly on the cart.
