Doom...3DO, Opinions

I know not many of us have 3DOs but those of you who do, and those who own or have played Doom on the 3DO, what do you think of this port? I had no idea it even came out for the 3DO, I've always just had Wolfenstein 3D (which rocks on the 3DO).

I have mixed feelings about this game:

1- Music rocks, it's the best music of any version I've played
2- The scrunched up screen (ala 32X) makes no freakin' sense to me...this thing had the power, what's going on? Why?
3- The bigger the screen, the choppier the game...the screen sizes are insane too: the smallest screen is literally about the size of a game gear screen: WTF?!
4- So far, the game seems to be completely faithful to the original. But memory does not serve me greatly for this game as I haven't played Doom in 12 years and the first version I've played since the DOS. I've owned the Saturn/32X versions but never actually played them.
5- The D-pad is really sloppy in this game, but controls work great in Wolfenstein.

SO, I don't know if I really hate this or I enjoy it. It's a neat little thing to have as I'm told the Doom on the 3DO is getting hard to come by. But I can't decide yet if I like this port...

Not as good as the 32X version; the 3DO was not able to display that cool frame, so it is visually inferior.

I have Wolf3D on my 3DO and you're right it does rock. DooM I've never played buy I've heard a ton of people say its way too slow. There should never be a change screen size option in a console game... EVER!

that´s right, only the 32X screen size is good.

I didn't even know that the 3DO had a port of DOOM, but I agree with 108 Stars... there's NO WAY that it could ever be as good as the 32X version. ID Software called me one day and told me that the 32X was the pinnacle version of the game, even beating out the likes of Doom 3 on the PC or Xbox. Then they hung up abruptly and sent me a bill for the call.

I wish someone would record the music of the 3DO versions of Wolfenstein and Doom...

Nope, very very different.

Doom music in PSX is the same as in the Saturn version (IIRC...both were ported/published by Williams while the 3DO version is done by ART Data..

I need to hunt down the PSX version of Doom. It's the best of the bunch, with outstanding light sourcing and it sounded pretty good in surround sound.
