Please, no one would care about the game were it not for the spooled FMV backgrounds. You cannot muster an insult great enough to overshadow what a poor, dull shooter Silpheed is. Far too many people allow graphics to cloud their judgment on the actual quality of a game (see Silpheed, Toshiden, etc.).

The graphics are a big part of the experience in this case. If it didn't have the FMV backgrounds, it wouldn't even be the same game. That's like saying what if Alien Hominid didn't have the flash look, or what if Jet Grind Radio wasn't cel-shaded.

That said, I think the gameplay backs it up just fine. It's not the best shooter I've ever played, but it's a good 'un.

I enjoy silpheed. The music is rockin. I agree that it could have been better in some areas (bosses, power ups etc) but its gameplay is fair enough and requires fairly good dodging skills. It could have been worse. Of coarse im pretty tosh and enjoy games like nova storm so JMO. BTW has anyone played novastorm lately? I thought it was garbage when I first got it but now I kinda like it. It has some FMV charm to it
