With the start of the American Football season, I thought a thread on football games for the Genesis would be an enjoyable topic. What football (I'm not talking soccer!) games did you play? Did you prefer any series to another? Share any stories you may have!
Madden was pretty much the only NFL game I played on the Genesis. Madden 95 was probably my favorite on the console.
I've never really played Joe Montana Football, but there were many people who swore it was better than Madden. I've been thinking about hunting down a copy, just to see how good it really was.
I always liked NFL '94. I have some fond memories of that game. Never played the "Primetime" releases though.
I hated Madden for the passing windows which never felt right to me. The only realistic football games I played was Joe Montana. I spent more time with Tecmo Super Bowl, Pigskin, Super High Impact, and Mutant League.
It sickens me now that there is no variety. Exclusivity means it's either Madden or bust. :(
Bill Walsh and BW 95 FTW, even though they were the same engine ans Madden 94 (at least the first one was). Also, Tecmo Super Bowl is a championship worthy game (and so is III). That one is more arcadey but it is a great deal of fun. Joe Montana is a great experience.
Oh, yeah. Who can forget Pigskin Footbrawl!?!? I must do a review on that game.

Damn my Colts lost their first game in humiliating fashion! Ive always been horrible at football video games for some reason. I played football but its still one of the sports I know the least about. I have madden 97 and it seems pretty decent. I prefer pigskin and mutant league though, and rugby world cup is the shit even though its not football figured I'd give it a mention. The title of this thread should be changed to Footbol de Norte Americano or something for all the foreiners
I didn't know I was the only one that HATED Pigskin Footbrawl. I've just had so many problems with that game. Bleh.
I love Mutant League. Could never get into Madden. Joe Montana pissed me off a bit. Tecmo Bowl is awesomeness. And I've played NFL'98 the most out of them all.

I started off with SportsTalk Football Starring Joe Montata, then later got into NFL '94. On the College side which I enjoyed more, I played College Football's National Championship and CFNC II later. These two college games appear to use the same engine as the SportsTalk games/NFL '94.
I also played EA's Bill Walsh's College Football and later EA versions of the same engine focused on the college game as I really don't care for pro football much. I actually own quite a few more football games such as the 32X NFL Q-Backs Club and Tecmo Super Bowl but I've never really played them much since I played CFNC I and II so much. The football games on Sega CD and Saturn were all pretty bad, I never liked any of the PS1 games but some of the PS2 and Dreamcast football games (all college) have been pretty fun.
Fifa Soccer CD by far the best football game for the Genesis / Sega CD! Switch curve ball on and walls and the game changes completely too hehe steering balls into the goal around people classic fun!
The loading game graphics and video are shite but usually give an inbetween laugh at how bad they are!

I like FIFA 96 Gold Edition for "football" (we were talking about American Football).
I could never get into CFNC becuase it had things that irritated me. Maybe I will pick it up and give it a whirl.

A sport you carry the ball then kick it is classed as "football" and a game you kick the ball in is called "soccer" .... so backwards

Well this all true isn't the ball used in Rugby ,which is where American football derived from, called a football.

I have a spare copy of CFNC II I'd send you for free if you'd pay shipping. I don't know what about it you don't like, I just love it! The 2nd version added things like shotgun formations and putting a man in motion. The engine is the same as the NFL games but with college playbooks and rosters.Quote:
