For a more realistic football game NFL 94 was the best game on any system for me at the time. Especially if you change the view to the side angle instead of the default.
I always loved Tecmo Bowl for a more arcade type game.
I own Joe Montana 93, 94 and Madden 95. The graphics and and the sports talk make the Montana games better than the sound and bland graphics in Madden. Madden has better gameplay it was more user friendly. Montana 94 had better game play than 93. In 93 it was real hard to make a catch while in 94 it was easier. Montana 94 also had real players and not just the numbers. When I first heard the announcer talk I was blown away in the Montana games.
I've really gotten into Genesis football in the last few years.
I love Madden('91), 92, 93, and '94 - after that I find them unplayable (mish-mash of players blending into each other and I find runing and passing incredibly difficult. The earlier Maddens are perfect in terms of control, graphics, and playability. A while ago I got Tecmo Super Bowl which I now prefer over the SNES version (which I now rarely play), mostly because the Genesis controller is so much more comfortable to use.
I recently got NFL Football '94 with Joe Montana and it's got a great playfield and overall play scheme. ONE thing I have yet to figure out is how to pass; I get intercepted on most passes on '94 - can anyone give me suggestions on how to complete more passes on '94? Thanks.
Haven't played it for quite a while but it's pretty much normal to get intercepted and miss passes. Montana 93 is even harder to complete passes. What works is for me is after you make the pass, control the receiver and move him to the ball while pressing the C button.
Im not very familiar with NFL 94 - I stuck to Madden.
If it is anything like JMF II, than I understand. Never liked the passing in that game, nor the running for that matter. Something just rubbed me the wrong way about the horizontal view and the way they did it. But there was always the halfback pass that fooled the CPU every time, that was fun.
I just got ESPN Monday Night NFL and can't seem to pass or hand-off. Is anyone familiar enough with this title to tell me which buttons do which? Thanks.
Oh man. Probably one of two football games on the Genesis that I have not played yet. Surprising too, since I have played all of the other ESPN sega games, even reviewing National Hockey Night. Most of them are purely mediocre or bad - like speedworld.
I will play the ROM and get back to you. Okay: I know to enter passing, press B then god knows how you rotate between receivers. Im going to review this game.
God also is the only person that knows how to run the ball, because i still cant figure out how to pitch it or hand it off. I will work on it.
Okay. Try pressing B to hike the ball and press A when you want the back to get it.
If anyone owns this game and has a manual. PLEASE!
Threw on some pigskin footbrawl the other day. I gotta say this game might be rubbish in terms of graphics sounds etc, but it feels great to beat the crap out of people. I love when you are up some points and the other team brings out the trolls. TrollBowl!! The trolls make me want to rate this game B- even though it should probably be a C- or so.
Thats what makes the game so fun. Just like most of the great football games on Sega, the greatness isnt in the game, its in the gameplay. Playing a 150-149 game in Pigskin Footbrawl as your troll passes it to you in the endzone as time expires is a great time. I even found a way to keep the game going instead of having it stop - keep passing it as soon as you get it. I got grounded once because my friend and I were laughing and playing it as time expired and the troll was running towards the endzone and fell in the black hole and we were laughing so hard but my mom was yelling for me upstairs and she thought i was laughing at her.
Great times. Id give it a 7 or an 8.
So, I just recently started collecting Genny stuff. Any hands down best football game I shouldn't be without?
NFL '95/'98
Madden '95
