You Yanks must accept that the Republican Party is a strange thing to us Europeans. They seem very regressive and there is absolutely nothing like them in mainstream Western Europe politics. Things like global warming and evolution are scientific facts and there is a political party who the second in charge denies both.
The strangest Party from the UK to me is the Liberal Democrats. I still can't figure out what they are, exactly. Labour is left, the Tories are right, what the hell are they?
I just know the leader they used to have (some Irish guy) looked like the Lucky Charms dude.
There's also nothing funnier than watching the British Parliament. Much more exciting than Congress since they can can yell insults at each other.
EDIT: Not believing in global warming is fringe even in the Republican Party. McCain believes in it and believes its man made. Sarah Palin doesn't (she thinks it's God hugging the Earth a little close) but then again, she's fringe. And from Alaska. Nuff said.

In Germany there is only one party I am afraid of....they call themselves "The Women"...!!! :D

In the Congress there are rules against insults and shouting. Lame. We should be more like the British in that.
Usually they should be quite in the Bundestag. Of course sometimes it happens, but usually the politicians are quiet / sleeping.
Not wholly accurate nowadays. The Liberal Democrats are a left wing party and are knocking out some pretty good policies at the moment. The Tories have moved to the centre and Labour, although has it's roots with the left wing, the government is certainly right wing and because of this some odd form of socialism has emerged which punishes workers and aids scroungers.Quote:

Personally I think in restaurants or bars the owner should say himself if smoking is allowed or not; but forbidding it in places is understandeable because others suffer from it.
Enviromental protection is extremely important though, and many things need to be enforced by law; the pollution is way too big of a problem to let it just go.
Palin actually fits in rather well. She fills in that wacky "I love guns /hate abortions" that real hard right wing nutjobs loves so much. Something that McCain looks relatively normal on. Not all of the right believe these things. Many just want smaller government, more of a classical liberal type of view.
Unfortunately the real nut jobs on the right are the one of the few groups that ALWAYS vote in this country along with old people. This is why Bush won last time. They all rallied and went out and voted. Don't expect the kids to come out for Obama this time. They hardly ever do. Last time even against the evil that they saw Bush as they still barely came out.
On top of that despite the left's best efforts she has attracted many of the Hillary supporters. They have failed to cool their anger.
This is the first time I have seen the top of this link all in the red. For the republicans far she has been a genius pick.
