Is there a Neo Geo thread yet?
Anyways does anybody know how much a near mint copy of the MVS version of Rage of the Dragon would be worth?

According to the MVS price guide, $60 for a bare cart is the high end but they usually go for a little more since they're uncommon in the states. My copy was like $80 or so but included a shock box and professionally printed insert.
Are you talking about a complete kit or what?
It has the box. cart, mini marquee I think they call it , and some other random paper, and the. It looks like its new and it is only $20. I was going to buy it until i realized it was Mvs and not Aes but maybe I should anyways.
Well i picked it up along with a copy of Real Bout Fatal Fury 2. The covers themselves upon closer inspection look slightly pixelated but the marquees inside look good inside look legit. Either way they were $20 a pop.
Ok I opened them up. They say Snk inside so guess the carts are real if nothing else. :) Thanks for the help 0x15e.
It's completely possible to have SNK boards in a bootleg cart. It just means they killed another cart to make it. This guide to detecting boots is very helpful for figuring it out for sure, if you feel like digging into it. If you're still not sure, posting pics of the boards will get you a fast answer. I wouldn't be too worried about RBFF2 but ROTD is uncommon enough that there are a few boots floating around.
Anyway, you definitely got a good deal on them. Those are some really good games.
Thanks for the link. I opened them up and investigated. All looks well, no eprom or flash chips. One of these days I need to actually find a way to play these things. :)
Who cares if it is a bootleg for that kind of price? Just as long as it works reliably on real hardware.
They really need to make a flash cart for the Neo Geo.
I know pretty little about Neo Geo but a couple months ago the guy from a pawn shop I go to pretty often told me he just sold a Neo Geo with a couple games. When I asked the price he said $70. Needless to say I was a little bummed out.
(To Joe): Yeah, that's how I was looking at it. He originally said he wanted AES so I figured he didn't have a way to play them and may be looking to just turn a profit. Bootleg carts, though worth that much to someone who wants to play them, are worthless when it comes to selling them.
So people only buy Neo Geo stuff to resell? Nobody wants to just play the games? Poor Neo Geo. So unloved.
I love playing the Neo Geo! But I have been known to resell. I don't specifically buy stuff for profit, but sometimes I'll buy a cart lot, keep the one game I want, and sell the rest.
By the way, the going price for ROTD seems to be about $50 for a bare cart, $100 for a complete kit. If you sell though you might want to warn the buyer that the cart has been known to have issues with certain MVS board revisions, you sell as is, blah blah.
I got my kit new for $50 back when the Neostore was clearing them out. I love that game.
Well until I have a way of playing yes. I have sold Neo Geo controllers and carts I fished out of thrift stores before. I would love an Aes but right now I don't have the cash plus really the only game I want would be any Metal Slug any region but those seem to cost more then system.
