I just saw a Sega Greatest hits collection on Google Video yesterday which had titles like
Outrun
GoldenAxe
Bonanza Bro
Space Harrier
and all of them were 3D rendered and somewhat modernized.
You guys know anything about this? The guy said something about it only coming out in Japan. :confused:
That is the Sega Arcade Classics Collection on the PS2. Gamestop tried to pull a fast one on me by putting a Genesis Collection disc inside a Sega Arcade Classics Collection box! The compilation is available in the US.
Those games, and more, were released individually in Japan under the Sega Ages 2500 budget series. It had been going on in Japan for a few years before the compilation eventually came out in the west.
And all the games suck.
The guy who was doing the review said it got a very bad game score but after playing it he said it was good. What perked my interest was the rendered version of Outrun and Space Harrier. The Golden Axe one looked OK but I wasnt impressed.Quote:

Like the SEGA AGES compilation for the Saturn, it takes a few single Japanese releases and sticks them onto a single disc for Europe and the US. They've got remixed music by WaveMaster which is rather good!
There's also been listings for 'Sonic's Genesis Collection' appearing for the 360 and PS3 on the Amazon US listings. What is it? Who knows?... (but i look forward to finding out!)
Is it me or are people outright rejecting the present state of video gaming?
I mean from what it looks like and sounds like is that people are running full speed backwards towards old school retro gaming. Hell I know I am.
I would kill for an English version of the remade Phantasy Star . it is still 2d but it just looks gorgeous.

Seriously, this is the first place I have heard anything positive about those Remakes; for me they offer the limited gameplay of early 16-Bit-days combined with a visual polishing that is still 10 years behind the standards.
I canīt speak for the current gen, not enough experience; but the last generation made games such as this collection seem extremely poor. With every gen I enjoy gaming more and more personally.

Well, look at the map in the beginning; high res but no atmospheric details. There is just so little to see, it is colder than even it being a Sci Fi game should be.
And for the battles I noticed that while the party is standing it just seems to be stills, not the slightest idle-animation.
