I'm sure this question has been raised times beyond count, but I'm curious.
What is the most you guys have ever paid for a Genesis game?
My top three are:
Battletoads - $21.94
TMNT: Hyperstone Heist - $15.94
Earthworm Jim - $13.98

I think I paid 59.99 for Golden Axe when it was brand new back in 1990.
$75 for my Rocket Knight Adventures prototype, which is also the same price I paid for my Arrow Flash prototype, and $40 for yet another prototype, and that was Gain Ground.
If you are a collector and aim to get rare stuff, you'll have to spend money sooner or later.
How come you're gonna spend that little money on stuff like Panorama Cotton and Alien Soldier?
I'm ashamed to tell how much I paid for Slap Fight. :(
I don't remember exactly what I paid but I remember I paid over a hundred for alien soldier and panorama cotton each both mint. I have a couple games I paid around $75 for. Slap fight and musha I got for pretty cheap compared to what most people sell them for on ebay. Some pc engine games I paid a decent amount for.
Pretty much a tie between Yuu Yuu Hakusho - Makyou Toitsusen (£55) and Gouketsuji Ichizoku (£50sumat after the fecking import tax). I've yet to go after the priciest imports.
Top 3:
Beggar Prince - $46 (does this even count?)
Phantasy Star II - $12
Earthworm Jim - $8
The most expensive MD game I've bought is Streets of Rage 3 if I remember rightly, it was £20, later sold for £50 something on ebay as its not the best in the series and I preffered to have the cash instead.
WCS2 Blue box £751
Death and Return of Superman £70ish
Ecco Collector's box set £70ish
If you're a serious collector who wants everything in mint condition and all the box variations, etc, then eventually you will have to pay out for something.
Fortunately there isn't that many expensive games out there for the Genesis/MD, and if you're in it only for the gaming aspect you can pick pretty much any game up cart only for next to nothing with a bit of searching and patience.
Any of the 14 games I have from 16-bit era.
SOR2 was around $50, I'm sure "Road Rash 2", "Mortal Kombat", SOR3 were probably closer to $60 back in the day.
$150 for Panorama Cotton, and I'm about to pay $120 for a mint copy of Battlemania 2. I've also paid $75 for monster World IV, but those are the most expensive ones that I can recall.
Melf is a high roller.
My most expensive Genesis game is Panorama Cotton which I paid about £80 for, but the most expensive game i've bought overall is Psychic Killer Taromaro for just over $200 x_x it's lucky I enjoy the game as much as I do, or I would've felt a bit foolish :p
I'm certainly out of my league here! (as I expected) The only game i'd consider paying such a high price for would be Mega Man.
Speaking of which, was this game even available in cartridge form?
And what's the story with imports, anyway? Does the Nomad play MD games?
You know what, i've never paid much for a Genny game before. I got a loose copy of MUSHA for like $5 or something like that back in the day, I just got a copy of Gaiares complete for $2.99, the most I've ever paid was probably $30 to a kid in school back in the day for a Sonic and Knuckles. I have a bunch of the rare games as well and got them all pretty cheaply.
I got a bunch of rare Sega CD games for next to nothing.
Third World War $3.99 complete
Lunar loose for $15
Shining Force CD Sealed for Free and plenty more and never paid much for them ever.
I don't know my top three but, all things considered, retro game collecting is a rather cheap and fun hobby (with exceptions, like Neo Geo collection which requires big $$$).
I dont think ill ever come close to Stew's WCS2 price, but off the top of my head:
I think its Art Of Fighting at £30...
However SMS games are a different question ;)
The most I've ever paid is about £35 for Streets of Rage 3. In the past I have bid in excess of £50 for Daze Before Christmas, but always get outbid at the 11th hour.
The best I can remember is Comix Zone for $20.
It's hard to remember, since I got most of my Genesis games back in their heyday, but I usually bought used so I didn't pay that much. The most expensive would probably be Beggar Prince, of course, but other than that I think I paid $25 each for Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles used shortly after release.
If we are counting all Sega 16 bit games, Doom would be the most expensive, since my parents paid full retail new for it, and the most I paid for a game myself would be $50 for Snatcher.
Damn, the Genesis is a cheap system to own :)
$15 for CIB/Mint Contra Hard Corps. I think that was the most I've spent on a single game for Genesis. I got SOR 3 w/ case for $5 :)
I think Strider (Genesis -- new at release), Monster World IV, Bare Knuckle III, and Rockman Megaworld all set me back about $70-80 each. Snow Bros. and Battlemania 2 interest me, but not enough at their general selling price. I'd love to get MD copies of Batman and Comix Zone, but I'm not paying $400 or whatever for a game for different packaging. I would have foregone Pier Begger Tavern at $50 for a game I'm almost certain to not like nor play, but having my name in a Genesis game was too nice a thought to quell reason and rationale thinking. :p
Genesis and MegaDrive games on the whole are pretty cheap. I have Saturn and arcade boards which cost more but still not what I'd consider exorbitantly expensive like AES games, prototypes, or just ridiculously inflated "rare" stuff.
I paid £50 for SOR3 a week or so after seeing it in a charity shop for £20 (The _ONE_ time I forgot my wallet... It was gone by the time I made it back).
Now I never forget my wallet.
i think i paid $30 or $40 for the NHL Hockey games when the first came out new
the only one i bought 2nd hand was NHL 98 for $25 still sealed
and $25 for Mutant League Hockey
after those its been $10 or less for my Gen games
now the Sega CD is another ball of wax alltogether
$66 for Lunar Blue
$50 for Vay
... ETC
the total for my entire Genesis collection (CD,nomad,CDX,PBC,JVC,32X.. etc)
$1475 = 11 systems - 126 games with only 16 genesis games not accounted for in the price
$70 for Sonic & Knuckles new in 1995, and around $60 shipped for a complete PAL Wily Wars when some dude in Spain was unloading new-old stock a few years back.
As a general rule then and now, I don't buy games new when they're current in the market.
So, off topic, but I can't make my own threads yet. Wtf is this forum's obsession with Raul Julia?
I'll handle this, guys.
There is a small but devout group of people from around the globe who believe that Raul Julia was a prophet of sorts (hence his appearance in the street fighter II movie)
Since his death, members of this group have been searching for the five body parts that Julia sneezed out that, when combined, will resurrect him from the dead so that he may lead the rebellion against Tom Cruise and the scientologists.
That's my understanding, anyway
MrMatthews is 2000% correct.
Except that The Addams Family movies are Raul's greatest work.

Back *ON* topic
I think the most expensive games I've bought for the Genesis/MD post 16-bit era are my Bare Knuckle games (2+3). I think I paid $30-35 for BK3 cart only and twenty some bucks for BK2 (case but no manual).
Fun Fact: In both BK2 and BK3 when Blaze jump kicks you can see her panties...which is cool for a whole 10 seconds.
150-250-ish for Phantasy Star 1 back in the not so late 90s. Most I ever spent on a game. Can't remember how much for Advanced Military Commander and GleyLancer each but it was A LOT.
Off the top of my head its probably Mega Bomberman. I think I paid $25 bucks for a complete PAL copy because its one of my favorite games ever and couldn't accept getting it in a crappy cardboard box. So the shipping was like an extra $15 and when I finally got it some of the tabs that hold the game in were busted. :(
So yea needless to say I was kinda disappointed with that buy.
I payed 23$ including shipping for a complete Truxton. It was in almost perfect condition.
SNOWBROTHERS 150 EURO S AUCH
panorama cotton 75
twinkle tale 75 euro s
street of rage 3 paid oo,1 cent on ebay was titled as stretofrage but that s still to much for that piece of shit
but gleylancer very cheap 10 euro s
alien soldier like 10 euro s
warsong 5 euros
men i like our dutch selling place most of them don t now how much something is
useley pay like 6 euro s on a mega drive game
Most I ever bid on a megadrive game was $365 for eliminate down in a moment of insane impulsiveness, I was outbid fortunately. There is no way I would pay that now, but it still annoys me that I don't own that one, its like the one that got away.
I found The Immortal CIB for $2 here locally. This was only a few months ago. At the time, I didn't exacly know what I was looking at (I only knew it by the wizard, who is not shown on the box).
Only after I passed it up did I realize that it was one of the games I was looking for, but by the time I made it back it was gone. Looked for it on eBay, but it goes for $15 to $30, and you're lucky to find one that has a case, let alone instructions.
I know it's not one of those ultra rare, gotta-have-it-at-any-price titles, but that was my game that got away.
Now I'm dead inside.
My top 5:
Beggar Prince 37 €
Alien Soldier - 37 €
Mega Man: The Wily Wars - 35€
Twinkle Tale - 25 €
Gunstar Heroes 19 €
I just spent $38.95 on Dune. That's my priciest so far.
The most I ever spent was about $85 for a mint copy of Snatcher. I bought a lot of games new back in the day, so $40-$50 a shot was typical. I bought quite a few used and others new after they'd been out a while. I think I got Panzer Dragoon Saga for $50 which seemed like a lot at the time.
I've payed up to 46 for genny games (Beggar prince, pier solar etc) and 30 each for a couple repros of really rare/expensive games recently.
Megadrive imports that decimated my wallet:
$139.95 for a complete Pa Pen Ga Pengo.
$124.14 for a cart only Snow Bros.
US titles that hurt:
$62.99 for a complete M.U.S.H.A.
$18.98 for a complete Ristar.
Master System madness:
$53.34 for a complete Bubble Bobble
$36.36 for a complete Ninja Gaiden
Think I'll keep these lists at the Top 2 only. I can only bare so much shame.
