I could never deal with Horror movies, even when I was a kid I ran out of the room.
I like Sci-Fi and Action.
I am big into Documentaries at the moment.
Slightly off movies like Fight Club, Trainspotting, and The Prestige.
I like all genres if they are done well. I have been watching a lot of Jack Hill 70s exploitation movies lately like switchblade sisters which I just got on laserdisk(introduction by Quentin Tarantino), and The swinging cheerleaders (An amazingly psychological film). The street fighter with Sony Chiba is a great martial arts series. Actually I saw a newer martial arts movie that I liked, it had Tony Jaa in it and he did some amazing fight scenes and stunts.
I have been collecting a lot of old Edgar Allen Poe movies with Vincent Price in them. I highly highly recommend a Poe film called A Comedy of Terrors. I watched it for the first time a week ago and it had me laughing out loud a lot.
I like all fiction, but my favorite is Horror, followed closely by science fiction.Dirt Ball, I don't know if you've already seen Conqueror Worm. It's based on a Poe poem, and certainly is one of the best horror movies of the 60s. It's creepy as hell, and Price is outstanding in the bad guy role.
I've yet to see The Comedy of Terrors, but so far I think Conqueror Worm is his best film ever, followed closely by Theatre of Blood.
--- Oh yeah, and let's not forget about Jack Hill's Spider Baby, a masterpiece!
Martial arts, you cant go wrong with Bruce Lee, and science fiction, any fantasy has me interested. Watched Pan`s labyrinth the other day and that was great!
I have heard of both those (worm/blood theatre) but have not seen them yet but i will no doubt track them down at some point.
Oh yeah spider baby is a classic. Lon Cheney was a raging alcoholic at the time of filming but does a great job as bruno. Jack Hill movies are amazing. The swinging cheerleaders is a brilliant example of his films because by the title you assume it is just a low grade tits an ass film and thus demeaning to women, but the dialogue and social commentary do actually the opposite and flip the stereotypes upside down and it becomes a very socially aware film and it gets the message across to the viewers who were there just to see something trashy and campy.
My mini Vicent Price collection consists of The Fly(which scared me as a kid), house of wax, house on haunted hill, house of usher, The pit and the pendulum (which rocks hard), confesions of an opium eater, the comedy of terrors (which also stars Peter Lorre, Boris Karloff, basil Rathbone and is directed by Jacques Tourneur!), the masque of the red death (I just got it and havent had the chance to watch it yet), the last man on earth, the oblong box (another poe story), and the abominable dr.phibes and Dr. phibes rises again double feature laserdisk.
Hoff-movies.
Comedies, Horror, Sci-Fi, Action. Best if all are mixed together. Documentaries, depending on topic, are good too.
You forgot Hoff-movies, Tiido.
EDIT: Beside Hoff-movies my taste varies. I was once a horror and splatter fan, but today these movies are kind of boring for me. Ring 1 (japanese version) was the most scary horror movie I have ever seen.
I also like historical movies, just not of the 20th century; too whored out WW-crap.
Also very Hollywood-like movies like Braveheart or Rob Roy qualify for me, eventhough the historical correctness is rather low.
Documentaries can indeed be fascinating, for me history is the topic there.
Comedy, Sci-fi, and action movies.
Special mention goes to Ah-nuld for those wonderful 80's action movies.
If you hate Ah-nuld, you are a RED.
Really hard to categorize for me... I count "The Good, The Bad & The Ugly", "The Godfather 2", "Unforgiven", "The Blues Brothers", "Jacobīs Ladder", the first "Alien", "High Plains Drifter", "THe Prestige" and "Six-String-Samurai" amongst my favorites, and they donīt have very much in common...
(Well okay, The Good the Bad and the Ugly, Unforgiven and High Plains Drifter all are Clint Eastwood-Westerns, so maybe I got a weak spot for those...)
