Does anybody around here read?

I love reading! I actually work at a library, so I'm always checking stuff out.

Just reread Fellowship of the Ring and about to start on Two Towers for the first time!

I'm making my way through all the early all the early Sonic the Hedgehog comics that I missed. #1 through #20 were pretty kiddie and humorous, but from the #20s to the #50s was when the writers really started making the characters their own and giving them some serious and engaging plots to work with. After #50, there was a bit of a slump, but everything has picked back up again nicely. Heading into the #70s now.

It's the best comic series about anthropomorphic animals fighting against robots, wizards, and a mustachioed dictator you'll ever read :sonic:

Got a copy of The Canterbury Tales this past week at Goodwill for 50 cents. Enjoying it so far, and also getting into the Moncrieff translation of The Song of Roland.

Currently reading The Lost World by Michael Crichton. It's an excellent sequel to his bestseller, Jurassic Park, and I can't help but wonder why Spielberg did not more closely adapt the novel as it was instead of making the rather messy, albeit impressive, movie we got back in 1997.

I'm reading Beneath the Underdog by my man Mingus.

I was mainly disappointed that we didn’t get the chameleonic dinosaurs.

But at least Lost World got the unused John Hammond death scene from Jurassic Park.

I love Michael Crichton. Died too young, IMO. I know the new Planet of the Apes series took from his first post-humously published piece, Next. I would like to see that film made. Most of his works do read like a blatant attempt at a movie script. Which makes for a faster read anyways, so I never saw anything wrong with that. But I can see how a Director or Producer might want to take some liberties from them. I still love his books and the films deriving from them. Believe it or not, as much of an insanely huge fan of Jurassic Park as I am, my favorite book, and derivative film, from him is Eaters of the Dead/The 13th Warrior. I do love me some Nordic folklore mixed with ancient arab and a taste of the Neanderthal.:rock:

Congo was another great book by Crichton. Another novel that in no way was done any justice by the film, which was an embarrassment. The only redeeming feature of the film was the presence of Tim Curry, but even he couldn't save it.

Congo, the movie, was indeed terrible.

Agreed, Congo the film should have been “Jurassic Park but with ancient Apes”. Just like the book was.

The film is crappy but Tim Curry eating that guy’s cake always cracks me up.

I read a lot - 4-5 books in a good week. A lot of history, odd non-fiction books and various fiction - mostly urban fantasy, living dead stuff and the odd cozy mystery (especially if there is a paranormal connection).

I just finished "Fairies of Sadieville" by Alex Bledsoe - the final novel in a series centering around the "Tufa" (a race of supernatural beings who came to America long long before Columbus). As is most of his work, it was really well written - although I was saddened since it is the last work in this series.

I am currently reading a short story anthology by Permuted Press titled "Fat Zombie" - the stories so far feature unlikely survivors of various zombie apocalypses.
