I was in the middle of a Dreamcast kick when I decided to actually complete Time Stalkers, and let me tell you, that game was super short and fairly easy to complete. The actual dungeon-crawling gameplay wasn't too bad, but considering that the superior Evolution games were on the same system, there's no denying Timestalkers looked like something of a cop-out. The endings that are available all suck I might add.

As for Dark Savior, indeed, I didn't think it was that bad, and the parallels were definitely a cool idea, that's for sure. I liked the platforming portions the most though, being they resembled Land Stalker's a great deal, and the battle system took some getting used to but it also managed to be not so bad when I got used to it. I absolutely hated the mine cart portion though.

And I thought the Saturn had some great RPGs on it, but indeed the quantitiy was certainly lower than the PS1, but at least it wasn't the Jaguar which only had one RPG in Towers II.

The 3DO had only two RPGs released in the states called Guardian War and Lucienne's Quest, both fine games by the way, while in Japan there were far more than what was offered here.

Read that article. The 3D videos were just FMV in there for the sake of it being Sega-CD. It was supposed to be called Eternal Champions: The Final Chapter. Not Eternal Champions 3D. There wasn't going to be any 3D in that game.

And how is the game not going into 3D ludicrous? Street Fighter was in 3D for 20+ years almost and they tried to go into 3D separately and it sucked ass!

Don't try blow my idea of calling it Eternal Champion 3D off. I know it what the original canceled game was going to be titled, I've seen the Wiki article about it numerous time. I'm just saying that it would have probably gone 3D rendered if it was completed, not 3D polygon like Street Fighter EX, but rendered sprites like the Killer Instinct series. But EC3D was my idea.

I agree that it is home to a few great RPGs, but they also tend to be fairly expensive. And then there are a couple mediocre ones that are also very expensive. Dark Savior can be had pretty cheaply in comparison to, say, any of the Working Designs releases, or Panzer Dragoon Saga. All I meant to say was it's an RPG on the Saturn that won't break the bank.

I played through about 60% of Timestalkers myself before I gave up. I didn't mind the randomly generated dungeons, but I hated the fact that you restarted at level 1 every time you left and re-entered a dungeon. It felt to me like I wasn't making any progress at all.

Not to insult you here, but can you really trust a Wiki article? They tend to be wrong sometimes and can be written by anyone. Unless I see some solid proof that the game was originally going to be called Eternal Champions 3D, I'm not going to believe that that was the original name of the game.

And I'm not trying to blow your idea off of the game possibly being in 3D in a later installment, but the proof has been shown that the Saturn game was planned for 2D.

And for that matter why limit the graphics to 16-Bit style Genesis graphics. I'd rather see what the Saturn could've done with the 4MB ram cart being utilized. If SNK could milk the hell out of the Neo-Geo no reason Sega could'nt have come out with even better 2D games.

there's no proof of 2D either, yeah Saturn was praised as a 2D powerhouse but that all changed when PlayStation came along. I read that the team never got off the ground to even start work on it since they were forced to stop development on it by SoJ. With the top fighters coming out in 1995, I highly doubt if EC3 installment was continued that it would have been a 2D fighter. But neither of us will ever know what would have become of the series, and I'm leaving it at that.

Point taken, Dark Savior and Shining The Holy Ark are two games that won't tax anyone's funds thankfully, but it does suck that other quality titles like Panzer Dragoon Saga or even more strategy-oriented titles like Shining Force III and Dragon Force are worth substantially more. Then there's the mid-grade titles like Albert Odyssey, which I thought was pretty fun, but I wouldn't hold it against anyone if $50 sounded like a bit much to them.

Definitely agree with the whole Level 1 bit by the way, that sucked everytime you entered a new dungeon. Timestalkers could've been more fun had they made the gameplay a little more fulfilling in the leveling up department. Still, I managed to have a little fun dungeon-crawling in it for a little while.

I know of the Sega CD remakes for SCD, thats why i said "an enhanced remake with towns"
the Sega CD versions do not have towns, and just feels boring to me, unlike SF1/2 where i could actually explore towns.

And the remake of Shining Force Final Conflict for the mobile phones looks hella nice,
but fuuuuck why always with the damn mobile phones!

if there ever was a game that needed to be ported to the Genesis its the mobile version of Final Conflict.

Actually looking at how all of the 3D fighters had been developed in Japan and since EC was an American made game and looking at SoA offering during the 95 year they were only making 2D games or 2.5 on Bug. Now whether or not SoA had the ability to make 3D games remained to be seen even with the 32X they didnt do any 3D games other than Doom. Plus MK and SF were still big in 95.

The primary limit on 2D fighting games is memory - do you have enough memory for all the moves of all fighters currently being used? The PSX was great for 2D, but had limited memory. That's why some fighters actually stopped and loaded moves from the CD while you were playing!

Primal Rage and Clay Fighters weren't 3D rendered games. They used stop motion photography of small puppets to animate their characters (and digitized humans ala Mortal Kombat in the case of PR).

Ok so yes you got me there but in all essence those games were 2D games with 3D graphics. U still fought on a single plane and they used the same routine 2D animation techniques.
