Megaman 9 got me thinking about this. If Sega made a proprietary emulator that emulated 16-bit hardware to make new downloadable Genesis-like games on the Wii or Live Arcade, what sequel would you like to see?
I'd go with Ristar 2.

New emulator based games like Fantasy Zone II or Megaman 9 are a sweet thing. Having something like this for Mega Drive / Genesis would be just awesome.
I probably would kill for a new Bare Knuckle or Shinobi with Koshiro's involvement, but I would certainly also be interested in a new Gunstar Heroes, Golden Axe, Thunder Force, Aleste, Sonic, Shining Force, Phantasy Star...
A 2-D, 16-bit Sonic 4 at long last would be sweet, but I'm afraid they'd rape the series (again).
I'd go for Ristar 2
Vectorman 3 would be sweet if they made it 2.5D with hi-res graphics and tons of action. I'm talking about a 360/PS3 graphics upgrade, like...say...Bionic Commando Rearmed, but way better looking!!
I'd love to see another Streets of Rage... Take the Music from 1&2, take the game engine from number 3, make it longer than 3, extra characters...
...oh wait, that's been done. (SORR)
Would still like to see another SOR though :)
I can't help but think if they did a sequel to a 16bit game they'd end up spoiling it somehow by trying to be 'fresh' and taking it in an unnatural direction.
Yeah, but limiting them to 16-bit Genesis-like emulator would stop that (I hope) since they would be limited. Again, Like MM 9. You wouldn't have to worry about stupid crap like FMV cut scenes and over-drawn story lines and cheesey voiceovers and whatnot.Quote:

A new Sonic, Phantasy Star, Kid Chameleon or Toejam & Earl would be my picks.
A new KC would be cool since it, like Ristar, never got a sequel.
Wow. I like none of your guys suggestions :D
Gunstar Heroes 2, Gaiares 2, Thunder Force XX, direct sequel to PSII (like a few years later, not generations), Shinobi 4, Musha 2, Trouble Shooter 3 (yeah, yeah), AlienStorm 2. There's just so much to list/want.
If they brought out another Sonic game for the genesis, I would burn ALL of my Genesis systems. All of them. :daze:
Are you that afraid they'd screw it up?Quote:

How about Chakan 2, but done with this generation's technology and something like Ninja Gaiden 2's gameplay, although not as hectic.
Well I would like some sports with current players, golf, soccer, ice hockey. Most names are unrecognizable from back in the day bar a couple.
mastersystem
ninja gaiden 2
miracle warriors 2
golden axe warrior 2
new fantasy zone
Streets of Rage would be a cool sequel if they would get rid of the kid on the roller blades and the old man with the mechanical arm. What drugs were they on when they greenlighted that?!
Non sports: Another Earthworm Jim (too bad the original was released so late in the consoles history) would be fine by me.
Sports: An Evander Holyfield's Real Deal boxing and Sports Talk Baseball sequel would be great.
I think MDK1 came out for PS1 and MDK2 came out for Dreamcast. I have a bootleg of it my friend copied for me.
Man, I don't know where either of those consoles are hidden in my house.
MDK2 was also ported to the PS2. I think you can get it pretty cheap, it was re-titled MDK2: Armageddon. Never played the PS2 version, but I prefer Dreamcast :p
1.) Herzog Zwei. My favorite Genesis game by far. Badly needs a 16-bit or 32-bit remake using scaled sprites. more battle fields, more unit types, more commands, deeper strategy.
2.) Phantasy Star II. I know it was remade on PS2. I'd like a 16-bit remake with just much better quality audio/visuals.
What would you call it?
Herzog Zwei, Zwei
or
Herzog Drei
:D
I agree with you, it would be great if they'd do an old strategy game justice for once!
MUSHA did get Robo Aleste....which isn't exactly a sequel, but pretty dang close. Still wouldn't mind another, but I don't think Compile will ever come to to life.
I'd really love to see another "real" shining force game. Not sure why sega chose to put Neo or EXA games under the shining force title other than name recognition. They could have been Shining something else, because they aren't in line with where III left off. Too bad too, there are so many decent tactics games on newer systems would have been nice to see a shining force out there too.
I think they merged Compile into Sonic Team when Dreamcast was discontinued.
Apparently they still release classic Shining Force games in Japan - for mobile phones: http://shining-world.jp/mobile/sfc/

Those look like the GG Gaiden games...
That's what I heard too, but many people left the time also. I hear they formed another studio called AIKY....but i think they went under as well.
Too bad.
hmm....i can't beleive the future of shining force is on a mobile phone. :?
Do Streets of Rage 4
I like Dr Zan, and have done ever since I heard him say "par-rumph!"
(Doesn't mean I like to play as him very often, though; that is a different matter :) )
A sequel to SoR would be nice. I quite enjoyed the remake thingy up until the point where the game crashed (I've a feeling it was near the end) and I couldn't be bothered to play through it again. (Bah.)
The following post is made with the idea that the suggestions within are in wholesome 2D glory and on Mega Drive carts. Any abominations of 3D are contarty to the spirit this post was made in.
I don't believe sequels to Streets of Rage 3 and Shinobi 3 would work. Both would risk being anti-climaxes following the awesomeness of both games &, besides, the Streets of Rage Remake fulfilled all our Streets of Rage fantasies.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 would be the obvious answer, providing they kept to the basics and didn't add 8000000000484 friends.
While I would also like to suggest Kid Chameleon, I fear further additions would detract from the awesomeness of the original.
Therefore, after careful deliberation, I have decided to suggest Ecco the Dolphin III.
I think the equivalent to a new Streets of Rage would be an upgraded "Dynamite Cop" (DC)or "The Bouncer" (PS2).
Shinobi already has a PS2 sequel which I thought was pretty cool.
but if you want to stay 2D I would like it even more because they can do a lot with it and it would be more challenging.
Moonwalker 2 - but in this version the kids run away from MJ.
Some fun sequels that have not been mentioned (great ideas so far):
Flashback,
Another Shining Force entry
Road Avenger (I know, It's CD, not Genesis, but whatever)
Ill have to say Kid Chameleon also.
But the only way i would be cool with that was if it was the same game with totally different levels and possibly new power up's.
The original is just too damn good to do a full change on.
If they actually did this, i would be one happy gamer.
Comix Zone 2! Why Sega hasn't already whored out this game with countless sequels or hundreds of re-releases I don't know but the original was so unique that a sequel wouldn't have to deviate too far from the original to be great on its own grounds. Make it happen Sega.
Ristar 2 is a really good idea also IMO.
Eternal Champions: The Final Chapter.
Seriously, someone needs to call up Michael Latham right now and get him to make that game.
I was never a huge fan of Phantasy Star Online, so for me it would be great to see Sega make a Phantasy Star sequel more akin to the original four games.
Also, Shining Force needs a proper sequel that's more like the older ones too (Shining Force 1-3 and CD). A new Shining in the Darkness sequel would be great too, considering how fun Shining the Holy Ark was.
A new Eternal Champions game would be kickass. :D
A new Vectorman game with today's graphics would be very interesting to see.
Finally, they should just make an HD Sonic title that's 2D, not 3D. They can give it 3D graphics if they wish, but the game has to be left-to-right, no exceptions.
