Biggest regrets in your video game history?

My BIGGEST regret ever is a tie:

Buying the Atari 5200...the games were cool, but the controllers were such a pain and the system is is the size of my Sega CD II box. All in all a total dud and I was happy to unload it.

Sega 32X: I used to think I was a completest...I had to own every sega system. That is until I actually tried to play games on it. Since I own/have owned a Sega Saturn the 32X never ever really seemed necessary. I got the damn thing for free but I did drop some money on games which I regret. I sold it recently after months of trying to convince myself that I needed to keep it just to have it.
Then I realized the reason I own this stuff is to play the games, not just to "have." As soon as game play enters the mix, the 32X seemed like a total waste of space.


2nd Biggest regret: In 1999 my brother and I sold off all but 6 of our Genesis games to buy newer stuff.
I really wish we hadn't done that. It took me forever to find complete copies of Cool Spot, Out of This World and Shinobi III all over again.
Don't sell stuff you like just to get new stuff you might not. My whole reason for reverting back to all this stuff is because this stuff is the best stuff.

When My brother I and I moved out of our mother's house we split up all of our games. I go the Genesis and Sega Cd and Lunar II, but he walked off with Snatcher , Lunar, the Saturn with Dragon Force, Magic Knight , and Panzer Dragoon Saga. I didn't really care so much as I was busy learning how to build cars and playing in bands but now it irks me a bit. He did just give me most if it back though so I guess it ended well.

Dropping my buddies new Gameboy on the sidewalk was pretty shabby even worse at 10 years old. Damn thing just slipped out of my hand.

Spending $700 on a friggin' 3DO at launch. I guess it makes the PS3 MUCH easier to swallow given the perspective.

Selling my original Master System when I got the Power Base Converter (I was a teenager without a job).

Selling various games and peripherals, many of which I have yet to reacquire.

I paid good money for an Aura Interactor, nuff said

I bought a Wii instead of an Xbox 360 or PS3 because I used to be a mindless Nintendo fanboy. :(

I also regret selling my copy of Pokemon Gold to a friend for $10 back in around 2001. I've wanted it back ever since, and I don't even think I ever got the money...

In the summer of 1999, I decided to sell all of my sega collection (just genesis, I never had 32X or CD) which included over 100 games and like six controllers. I traded everything in straight up for a N64. Uh, too bad that the N64's second player port did not work, so I couldnt play anything except the games that had more than 2 player multiplayer. Lame. I eventually traded everything back and got the majority of my games back.

About five years ago, I decided to sell off all the systems I didn't play anymore. I ended up selling my PSX and all the games to GameStop (then EB Games). The tragedy of the story? Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for $8.

My biggest video game regrets start with playing Xenosaga. It has great graphics but I can't stand it. I am actually stuck on a boss level and have no care to continue.

A few other regrets are Soul Reaver 2, Blood Omen 3, and Onimusha 3. All of these sequels can be thrown off a bridge and washed into the seas of oblivion. The only good thing is that I got 1 or 2 of them used.

Know what's funny? I owned a 32X first and never thought the Saturn was necessary.

In fact, I pretty much verified it when I got a Saturn and dumped a pile of money on controllers, an AR 4-in-1 cart and mod chip. It was cool for about 15 minutes then I completely lost interest. Same for the Dreamcast I got. I just can't be made to care about either of them.

What's my biggest regret? Ever selling or trading any of my Genesis stuff. Everything I sold or traded to someone, I eventually found myself trying to find another copy of. It would've been so much easier just to keep it in the first place.

I guess my biggest regret is buying a Saturn at launch. I paid a thousand DMs for it and spend the following years pumping all my money into games and accessories.

I wish I would have spent the money on other stuff, like music, clothes, a better PC, or whatever.

1,000 Dollars? Holy crap, If I ever paid that amount for anything I would make sure I was buried with it when I died.

1,000 D-Marks (= €500 today) would probably equal about $750 or something (can't really remember the exact exchange rate), but back in 1995 those $750 were worth A LOT.

1. Letting my mom donate my Genesis "High Definition Graphics" system to a thrift store along with the remainder of the Genesis games I had that included Contra Hard Corps, Rolling Thunder 3, Gunstar Heroes and MUSHA.

2. Trading in all of my Genesis games to get newer stuff.

3. Buying a 32X ... no, buying 2 32X's because the first one didn't have all the necessary cables to hook up on the CDX. The thing is a pain in the ass to hook up and it just adds an extra power adapter to my surge protector. I have to pull out some plugs to make room for that damn brick. Doom, Space Harrier, Virtua Fighter and Shadow Squadron are already on the Saturn

4. Bought a little kit that was supposed to make my slim PS2 play back-ups and imports without opening the PS2. Instructions never made any sense nor did the thing work. I ended up getting a flip top cover with the Swap Magic 3 instead (works like a charm!).

After one of my family members gave away some collectables to one of our tenants to "make room in the basement" I quickly instructed them to consult me before throwing out anything that is my property. Sorry to hear that though.

mostly just overpaying for things. I've never regretted buying a sytem and rarely a game.

#1. Selling off my original NES. I didn't have anything rare, but it was *MY* system...even if it had stupid stickers on the top.

#2. Picking "Bart vs. the Space Mutants" over "Star Tropics". Yup, I picked shit over quality. Never again did I own a Simpsons game.

I regret buying a 32X from RetroSuperStore.

Game Boy Color. I should have just waited for the Advance.

When I was ten I begged my parents for a Virtual Boy. They got me some PC games instead. I was mad at the time but thank God they didn't get me the Virtual Boy.

I traded some games away that where worth a lot.. for a pittance. Mostly shit I didn't care about.

I think that every game I traded away and regretted, I manged to get back. There's times I wish I had $$$ to buy more games, but oh well..

I passed up a PS IV cart for $2, but I think it was dead. Oh well... Back in the day I missed out on the Blood 2 expansion for $10, but later bought it for that much many years later when it was going for $40+

Fortunately, I never considered getting rid of my NES or NES games (among which are Legend of Zelda, Zelda II, Super Mario Bros. 3, Castlevania I - III, Ninja Gaiden) when I received my SNES (which I still have, too, since launch day).

On the other hand, I once threw away a large stack of C=64 games (including Last Ninja) for some reason. I thought I threw out the C=64 hardware, too, but I found it recently in my parents' attic.

My dad had a Commodore 64 and used it until 1999. We had some really cool games for that sucker...

the whole thing just crapped out completely though and my dad said we needed the internet.

I've been a total loser ever since...

I regret buying Stretch Panice (THANK YOU GAMEGO!). Worst piece of crap ever.

I also regret buying a 3DO. I didn't buy it at launch - thank God - but off a friend. The thing sat there for months while I vainly scoured the stores in search of something to play after SFII and SamSho.

At least you didn't get a CD-I, melf. I think that's even worse than the 3DO, just because of the shitty Zelda games on it.

That reminds me of another regret: buying Superman 64.

And that controller, people complain about the 3Do controller, but the CD-i controller is the worst, ever.

I don't remember when or how, but while my brother and I were growing up we lost along the way the Supergame 3000 (Atari 2600 clone), the Phantom System (NES clone), a Model 1 Master System and an SNES. I don't know if we sold them or gave them away.

The only system I took with me when I went to college was my beloved Japanese Mega Drive. It was the only link I had with my gaming past, and I'm glad I actually still had it last year - to revive old memories when I restarted playing.

The first question that goes through my mind is, "where do your thumbs go"? That is bad.

To be honest, I don't have any major regrets. I have bought all that I wanted, at fair if not great prices, and never sold any game I regretted giving up.

My biggest regret was my bro throwing out his EGM collection in the late '90s, but I have since procured every issue he threw away, in as good condition as his issues were, too.

I guess I wish in general, I were 5 years younger, so I could have more time to enjoy all the video games I have yet to play.

I forgot to mention that there are four buttons (as you can see, they are positioned around the joystick) but only TWO of the buttons have functions mapped to them. So there are four buttons, but only TWO buttons work, WTF?!

Ok, the SNES-like one isn't that bad. It looks uncomfortable to hold and cheap, but at least you know how to hold/operate it. So, pretty bad but better than the first one and probably better than the Jaguar.

Seriously, why didn't they just make their controller like a Genesis six-button one and add shoulder buttons? That would be the perfect 2-D controller.

I wonder what Ninteno's biggest regret is: the virtual boy? Cartridges for the N64? Or choosing Philips over Sony for their disc-drive component?

Wow, that's a tough list to chose from. I'd go with carts instead of CDs for the N64. Wouldn't they have had FFVII if they had done that?

Atari's biggest mistake is easy. Not distributing the NES in North America as an Atari system. If they had done that we might be all playing Atari Wiis right now.

Well, choosing carts over CD's definitely cost them a lot of third-party titles, but i'd have to say that choosing the CD-i over Sony's "Play Station" was Nintendo's biggest oversight. Nintendo first created their biggest competitor and then handed them pretty much all of their third-party developers (except EA, who will produce games for anything).

Ah, I love Nintendo. But I love that story more.

But who says Sony would have done better than Phillips?

I think the PlayStation succeeded where others failed because they were able to learn from the mistakes of previous CD-based consoles (3D0, CD-I, and yes, even our beloved Sega CD).

that phillips controller is neat it looks like a direct recolor mold of the gravis gamepad that got me through many adventures of "commander keen"

my biggest mistake was paying $79.99 when strider first came out i bought it from "the good guys"

then about a month later i bought the atari lynx delux pack from them for $149 it came with california games,an ac adapter and i paid $39 for road blasters

i just hooked up my atari 5200 again i round a schematic to convert a pc joy and i had the perfect one to use

its so fun now so many games didn't need analog and play so good with absolute directions

like joust,montezumas revenge,kangaroo,heck even poleposition and galaxian work great

of course it is useless with missile command,superbreakout,kaboom

I sold my first Genesis and three games for $90 so I could buy Secret of Mana for SNES. I'm so ashamed. :( Later in life I would go on to buy a Genesis 3 from wal-mart for $30, and recently I found a high def graphics model 1, sega CD 2 combo on ebay for $70.
