And here I thought Europeans were more "progressive" and had subtitles instead of crappy ass dubbing.
Only poor channels have subtitles... all rich ones use dubbing. I'm glad our stations are poor :P
Dubbing for TV shows and movies is pretty excellent in Germany, actually I prefer it to the originals most of the time. Usually you donīt like dubbing when you are used to the original though. I prefer the dubbing because many actors have pretty average voices really, and they can be replaced with some real cool voices when dubbed. Also the voices seem clearer, with less background noise/ effect from the surroundings.
You know, I believe that Al Bundy is one of the greatest philosphers of the USA; a shining example of the American way, a hero. I have seen every episode multiple times. But I just hate the original version; itīs so much cooler when dubbed. Ed OīNeill should walk around only with a person to dub him even in real life.
Anime are usually not dubbed nearly as good; some of the voices are rather lame, with no effects or anything most of the time and actors rather just trying to speak in a deep voice than using digital effects.
The low point of dubbing is video games. 90% of all games are horrible in German. You have the feeling that everything is extremely rushed and every scene is only recorded once, no matter how bad it is. You come to believe that casting was made on the street right before the recording studio within 5 minutes. I am still pissed how Konami stopped imports of US-versions of Metal Gear Solid so that players could fully understand the story in their language; then I had to suffer from Liquid Snake that sounded like Kermit the frog.
Sometimes they hire one very popular voice, like the German voice of Bruce Willis, the voice of Nicholas Cage or something like that for the main character so that they can advertise with that; but the rest of the cast is bad. And the actors even say they love to do video games because it is a very quick job and well paid.
Ed O'Neil being dubbed is pure blasphemy.

I think that youtube clip of Al Bundy's greatest slams against fat women proved he, and by extension Ed O'Neil, are cooler than Germany and their oppressive dubbing!
