Worst accessories (BARF!)

Hey there ;) I was just wondering...what are your "favorite" worst accessories/peripherals?? You can talk about not only the Genesis, but every other Sega console as well!! I think my picks would go out to the Activator for the Genesis, and the Astropad for the Dreamcast (I believe it was made by Performance?). The Activator SUCKED, and was way more confusing than using a regular controller, plus, it hardly ever did what you wanted it to do. Imagine sticking out your right leg, sticking one arm to the left, and the other arm behind you. It was like doing Yoga before Yoga even existed, damnit!! :mad: The Astropad, which became popular around my house as "The Ass Pad," was extremely bulky, the VMU's and rumble paks had a hard time fitting in the slots, the dpad SUCKED, and the buttons and the controller itself were built cheaply. If I remember correctly, I think that was the first and only controller I've purposely broken. So...what are yours??

^I agree about the Activator. One of my fav's was the Menacer. I spent countless hours playing the mini games that came with it.

The Menacer is cool in a sucky sort of way. I like how you could add/remove the sights and the stock, but the gun itself isn't very reliable. The cursor jumps around wildly at times, causing me to just get up and shut off the Genesis, lol. Plus, with only a couple of games that you could count playing with the Menacer on one hand, it was a useless accessory (to me, at least).

If you the cursor sometimes wasn't as responsive as it should have been, that may be due to the TV. I found that certain games performed horribly on my 50", whereas they played perfectly fine on my 27". The Toe Jam & Earl game was the one I remember having issues with. But then it also says in the manual not to play it on a TV bigger than a certain size.

The Activator was total ass.

You know, I never had a problem with River City Ransom... that is, until I started dating a girl that was completely obsessed with it. Every day after work, it was, "Let's play River City Ransom", "Smiles are free!" and so on so forth - and she was serious about it: I had to write down the passwords so we could continue later. BARF!

Needless to say that relationship didn't last long (for this reason and several others), and that may be the main reason why I have since made it a point not to date any girls who are into videogames.

*shrugs* Good part was, we played a lot of Tetris Attack and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine together. So, there was that... but still...

Oh, right, the actual subject of the thread. Whoops.

I never gave it much thought. The controllers are awesome and the Sega mouse would've been useful for Dune II, but that's about all I ever bothered with. I've never liked light guns, or light gun games, or shooting games in general, so the Menacer was avoided. The Activator looked like a cheap piece of Chinese crap that served no real purpose, so I avoided it, too.

I've never done much mucking around with import games, but the Mega Key is useful for those who do. Personally I just stick with USA releases or use a PAL Megadrive where needed. No fuss, no muss.

Absolute best accessory ever, though? The Genesis 2 dongle, and the small red protector underneath it. Once removed, your system is ready to lose its virginity to the Sega CD. Crossing into adulthood is important; don't allow your system to do it too early! (And take photos to immortalize the experience.)

Hmm, I have a regular CRT TV, which I believe is around 27". My Menacer works ok for awhile, but then suddenly, when I pull the trigger, the cursor jumps around. It happened yesterday while I was playing T2 Arcade, and it's happened a couple times playing the Menacer cartridge. I mainly keep it around just for show, lol. And hey, props to the guy who figured out BARF was from River City Ransom, lol. So...any other crappy accessories you guys can think of??

wow omg what is that chair thing all about. I just picked up two Interact Starfire light guns for the dreamcast at the local game store, dont have a game to test them with but there quality is crap ,the buttons on the side dont seem very high quality (the first time i pushed the buttons on the side they fell inside of the gun).

btw speaking of accessories i got a sega brand mouse for the genesis with the 32x awhile back. could someone tell me what games this thing was meant for? i would have started a new post but the forum wouldnt let me, but i figured this looked like it wasnt one of sega best accessories either.

Back on topic: My god, that chair looks awful! Doesn't look comfortable at all! And what were you supposed to play with that?

LOL, that chair looks like a regular middle school lunch chair with a pair of jetpack controls on each side!! And yeah, those Interact Dreamcast guns suck. Another controller that sucked was the TurboPad 360. The dpad was completely flat, and it read your input based on where you touched it. I remember it working pretty well when I had it as a kid, but I barely ever used the controller cuz I thought it sucked. I like the actual feel of a dpad (preferably the Sega 6-button controller).

DUDE, THE TURBOPAD 360 WAS AWESOME! it was near impossible to actually use on most games because it was so vague between a press and non press and you ended up squirreling around. It's good practice for emulation on the iphone now that I think of it.

What's ironic is that people playing the Nintendo Wii almost twenty years later look just as stupid.

LMAO, both of those videos were hilarious. That one guy using the Activator had no idea what he was doing. I bought one at my local Play N Trade for collection purposes...until I used it. It pissed me off so much that I had to return it. Screw the Activator!!

Ugh. I fortunately never had one of those, but I had an Interact Quantum Fighting Pad which really wasn't much better. The thing was ugly, massive, and not very nice to the hands.

Some people liked that thing, but I did not at all. Even though it had 6 face buttons, as soon as I got a second official DC controller no-one ever touched that thing again, even for Street Fighter 3. The triggers on it made my PS3's triggers feel ergonomic by comparison.

Looks like a great boomerang toy for your dog.

The aura interactor is great if you enjoy being tickled mercilessly while your ribs vibrate together and explosions feel like a direct shock to the heart. I never could get the damn thing calibrated to where it would just do explosions and not just vibrate with the music. StarBlade for sega cd was the only game it seems to work well with at least of the games I have tried. I have always wanted an activator even though its crap. I just don't have any room to store it is the problem.

Daaaaannnngggg, I remember the Aura Interactor!! It looked like a bullet-proof vest almost, right?? I remember always wanting one, but I could never find those things anywhere. Interesting you brought that up!!

I've actually seen one in person. The thing breaks apart into 6 pieces (each side) and then you can store them in the box or whatever. When I did the gamestore thing someone had traded this waste of plastic in, I can't say much more about it because it didn't work when we tested it.
