It isn't really "hard" on easy mode. Though I'd hesitate to classify it as easy. Normal mode though can be brutal. But maybe my reflexes aren't as good as they used to be?
I prefer Contra 4 to Contra 3. The biggest difference being levels. In Contra 3, I didn't feel like any level truly stood out. The first level is pretty iconic, but that's pretty much it. It also featured a lot more slowdown than Contra 4. And I was never a big fan of the top-down levels, which I found to be easy and boring.
I agree that it's a great game. Probably my favorite on the DS.
I think that it could have been perfect if it had a few tweaks to line it up traditionally with C3 control-wise, and maybe if they could have addressed the difficulty.
Normal mode is a cakewalk to anybody used to these titles. Gone is the "total non-avoidance" factor for when you run into new enemies and you're not familiar with their attack patterns. You can reflex the game mostly on the first run. Kills only usually come from boss fights in that regard.
(Maybe it's experience, maybe it's not, maybe it's balanced against completely cheap kills that would otherwise be another issue. I don't really care, Hard mode still satisfies)
I can't count the times though where I'd go to grab a secondary weapon, and reflex would lead me to tap X to swap it up to the empty slot. But now the controls don't adhere to that Run N Gun reflex, instead, they force you to unlearn the past 15 years of gameplay, even though the controller button layout is the same. Ridiculous.
I know I'm not alone with this complaint.
Knit picking over a solid masterpiece, I know. It just sticks out to me enough to knock it back for no "good" reason. Hence..."Contra 4 sucks dog balls" :lol:
Here's an article titled: The DSi vs The iPhone. Is it just me, or does the main writer come off a bit amateur? He isn't the only IGN writer I feel that way about either, as I've said before, there's only like three or four writers for IGN I really care for. The rest are trash.
That being said, it's definitely an entertaining read! Should we dismiss the PSP, and label the current handheld war Nintendo vs Apple?
Well, look who the author is. It seems like every time I read an IGN article that makes my eyes roll, I look up and see that Levi wrote it.
Really? I think that was the first time I stuck it out for a 5+ pager. I usually don't notice the author on areas besides the Nintendo, PS3, and Xbox 360 pages.
It just felt like Craig Harris was using the exact argument I would make, and then Levi responds with: "you crazy? the iphone is awesome! best gaming device EVAR!" It felt like a grade school kid justifying his purchase. There was so little substance to his argument.
So whats the game Patapon like MrMatthews?

And Johnny, I don't know how well I could explain Patapon to you AND make it sound fun. But it definitely fits in a genre I'm sure you like: action strategy/RPG.
you control this tribe of little one-eyed guys by beating on your "magic drum" (the four face buttons on the PSP). By forming specific button combinations, you tell them to march, attack, defend, retreat, etc. So I guess the gameplay is kind of a side-scrolling RTS with rhythm game sensibilities.
It's a lot deeper and more fun than it sounds, trust me.
Is there more than 1 of these Patapon games? It looked intriguing to me so I will probably buy it.
There's a sequel that just came out, but the reviews made it sound like it's way more complicated than the original, and therefore less fun.
Oh, and not to gild the lilly or anything, but even if the gameplay was merely mediocre, i'd probably still recommend it because of it's style. It uses a shadow-puppet design, where all the characters are nearly all black against the colorful backgrounds. Add in clever, funny dialogue and a braveheart-esque bagpipe soundtrack, and you have probably one of the best presentations on the PSP.
Does anyone have impressions of Tokyo Beat Down? I'm still on the fence if I'm going to pick it up.
I've had a PSP since launch... and I suppose I like it for what it is. But, I've come a realization at this point that I just don't really care for handhelds. Looking back, I never did.
To me it seems about like playing a PS2 on a small portable screen. Why would I want to do that? I don't know! Handhelds always seemed like a cool idea to me, but when I get them I just neglect them.
I've been very tempted by the thought of getting a DSi, but I just don't know if it's enough to change the way I feel about a handhelds when I get it... It might just burn another hole in my pocket and sit there and collect dust like my PSP and GBA-SP. :mad:
Just ask yourself what situations you could or would use one in. For me I go away quite a bit so having one to play with at the hotels instead of watching crap tv is great, not to mention the long road trips!Quote:

That being said, the article did make me want to snag my wife's iPod Touch and check out some of those games. The graphics are definitely better than the DS's.
And on that note, check this out: As crappy as this game looks on a mobile phone, don't you think it could be ported to the DS?
SUBquestion: would you buy it if such a port existed?
