The Dreamcast, PS2, GameCube, and Xbox are of the same generation. Given that the Dreamcast was released first, it's only naturally for successive systems to be more powerful. Let me just add something to that.
As far as shooters go, the Dreamcast versions trump all over the other ones that arrived later for other consoles.

Now this is a matter of taste. Generally, the younger the person is, the less they like the extras. I like being able to play music and videos and surf the web in addition to playing games.

The battery life is good for most things (3 to 4 hours for intense games, and up to 11 for playing music). If your battery is getting old, it won't hold as much of a charge, or for as long as it should when off. This sounds like your problem. Rechargeable batteries don't last forever - in fact, they rarely last more than a year. If you have poor usage patterns, you COULD get as little as 9 months out of a battery. Sorry, but ALL rechargeable devices are this way.

Again, this is a matter of taste, and the PSP tends more to the older crowd than the younger. Personally, I use my PSP more for homebrew games and emulators than the games that are out. Try playing SEGA CD games on the PSP using PicoDrive - it's how SEGA Genesis/CD games were MEANT to be played. :cool:

You want DOOM for a console? The PSP version of Doom is pretty awesome, supporting the original PC wad files, as well as many third-party patch wads.

You also have third-party homebrew games ranging from Rubix Cube apps to things like GoGo Goo! (a rather fun puzzle-type game).


Okay, now for my most disliked console, I'd pick the XBox.

1. MS feels the need to control every aspect of the computer market. Not happy with complete control over home computers, now they want control over the games consoles. Fresh on the heels of a conviction as an illegal monopoly, what do they do? Try to spread their monopoly even FARTHER!

2. While people always appreciate lower prices, illegally dumping your product to drive the competition under while maintaining your business with a monopoly in another area is reprehensible. Isn't it odd that MS has never come close to making a profit on the XBox and game divisions?

3. What's the deal with flipping the position of the left analog stick and d-pad??? That's seriously screwed up.

4. Granted it was just a P3 computer in a smaller box, but they really needed fewer PC conversions. And people complain about the PSP on that. :roll:

5. As mentioned by others, MS has done more to destroy the idea of hardware/software that was even somewhat reliable than all others put together and multiplied by 100. :horse:

I'm a little curious about what you're implying here. How old/inexperienced do you think I am?

Oh, and as for older players liking the extra features on the PSP more, I'm willing to bet you have that backwards.

Everyone I know and talk with (in person and on the net) who has a PSP and/or a DS follows what I said. I'm not saying it applies to EVERYONE, just tends to be MOSTLY true in my experience. I have no idea what your age/experience is. If I had to guess from ONLY what you say about what you prefer about the PSP, I'd guess younger rather than older. If you're older, then you'll be the first of about a few dozen folk (older and younger) I know with a portable to buck the trend. That's not bad, just statistics. :D

Well, I AM actually 30, and if I buck any trends as a PSP owner, I'll wear that badge proudly.

As for what age group the PSP/DS appeals to most, I can see it going both ways. I'm sure there are survey results somewher on the web - I'd be interested to see official numbers (not to prove anyone wrong or anything. I'm actually curious now)

Wow. I'm getting all misty eyed reading so much Dreamcast affection :cool:

Also Dreamcast destroys PS1 graphically and most games that came out on both the Dreamcast and the PS2 look better on Dreamcast.

Also many Dreamcast titles are very easy to obtain now a days and I am talking about Brand New Factory Sealed stuff. You can get a new copy of Jet Grind radio, Test Drive, etc for under $20 on sites like Amazon and Half.

The younger people would like the PSP more while the older crowd would prefer the DS. I would think that since the younger people grew up with Ipods, the internet, etc, they would like the PSP more because it has everything they need. Now with the older crowd who grew up with game consoles that played games and thats it, they would like the DS since it play games, no nonsense, no updates, just games. This is all purely speculation since the DS IS marketed to the youngins with the stylus, the game choices and other shenanigans while the PSP is marketed to the older crowd.

My take would be that the PSP is bought mostly by teens and adults while the DS is bought by children, teens, and adults equally.

That's exactly how I saw it, MS.
