YVirtua Racing Deluxe was way better than the Genesis version and was very close to the arcade Virtua Racing minus just a few features. Some new stuff has been added to make this a better overall game though, and while racing fans might not get all the features they expect from a racing sim, there are some things here that will keep them interested.

Well, here's another thread without any feedback. I feel I owe it to this game to give it my personal tribute.
There were really only about 3 games that made me want a 32X: Knuckles Chaotix, Star Wars Arcade, and, of course, Virtua Racing Deluxe. I can't remember if I'd actually played the arcade game at the time, but dang if this racer didn't look sweet in the previews and box art. When I popped it in, I was hooked from the sweet sound of cars whizzing past the SEGA logo blowing in the breeze. The simplistic Red, White, and Blue car design just screamed American pride and the music forever embedded itself in my subconscious.
Being a NASCAR fan, I gravitated to the stock car right away and found it suitable for beating the Sand Park (using the zoomed out view). Over time, I found ways to win on Big Forrest, Bay Bridge, and Highland. In order to pull out wins in the stockcar, you really have to be just about perfect and using manual transmission to get the most horsepower out of your car (seriously, though, SEVEN gears? What's up with that, Sega?). It sure was satisfying to finally conquer those pesky AI cars with their ridiculous headstart.
But dang that Acropolis track! I could never conquer that hairpin turn. I eventually pulled out some wins (it was much easier to do it using the Forumla One, if I remember). To this day, I can still remember my heart pounding as I inched closer toward the lead car with the white flag waving, and the announcer screaming "Tiiiiime Bonus" in all its digitized glory! Seems like that last car was always the hardest to pass and tried to teach you the meaning of "rubbin' is racing!" But once I finally took the checked flag and heard the refreshing "Get Goooooal!!!", I was treated to watching my epic run from various angles in the instant replay.
I figured if I were ever able to beat all five tracks in one sitting, I'd get something really special. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case as far as I could tell.:|
One thing that I also remember about this game was playing it with my dad. And I'll always love a game more when family is involved with my memories.

lotsa fun, very challenging to learn the cars and make faster laps. you can win with auto trans ;)
the 5 win bonus was... disappointing.
the USA version doesnt have savestate to save your wins, but the Japan version does. it also has a few extra options in the options menu.

Hmm, interesting! Extra tracks or cars? That's a real bummer about the discrepancy in save states though. That's my one big beef with the game.Quote:

Yes, the PS2 version is probably the best, but the 32X version is awesome, and a great reason to have a 32X. I bought my 32X mostly because of VRD... that and Star Wars Arcade.

Is there something off in the controls/etc? Don't see how it can't be the definitive version considering it's supposed to be a direct port with added features?... unless something was fouled up in the port..Quote:

Ha... fair enough... people who don't own a PS2 or don't want to emulate it on their PC perhaps... other than that: I don't see how one can't admit that it's the best version 'unless' like I said, there's something wrong with the conversion.Quote:

I remember playing the arcade.. and I remember how good the normal Genesis version felt (a friend had a copy)... so I'll know what's up when I acquire this for PS2 and will reply with feedback in this thread at that time.Quote:
