Not familiar with many shooters with time attack modes, but the boss rush mode in Gradius IV is fun. You can unlock it in the PS2 Gradius III and IV collection.
It's strange. The MD and the Saturn both had a lot of shooters, but I don't recall any time attack modes :daze:
Curious, why the interest specifically in time attack? That makes me think of Hudson overhead shooters only. The scrolling is at a fixed rate, so the only way you can clear a stage faster would be to beat a boss faster. The differences in time would be marginal. Time attack is better for games like Super Monkey Ball or Sonic or whatever.
I dunno. It just has this charm about them. Blast as much stuff as possible, without dieing, and getting the highest score. Parodius also has a time attack mode and that's horizontal.
Nexzr, Alzadick, Super Star Soldier, Gunhed, Soldier Blade, Final Soldier, Star Parodia, Parodius, Coryoon, Terra Cresta II, Cychorider, Force Gear to name a few.
Why do they call it a time attack when it really is more of a score attack?
I'm not really into high scores unless the game saves them.
I got over 50,000 in Double Dragon once...
...I love shooters of any kind as long as the shooter itself is a damn good one. I don't care if its timed, or whatever. Shmups rock, they are the power supreme.
In many of these games new enemy waves only appear once the previous wave has been wiped out/gone off screen entirely; many waves are tough to kill and hang around for a while, so in order to score highly you have to be efficient at destroying enemy waves to ensure as many enemies as possible (and therefore more potential points) appear before you meet the boss.
