Happy New Year = Happy Global Depression, Unemployment for all, and infrastructually unsound......
Yea this is how I think. I know its morbid but its reality.
I have a great job that pays me lots of money and I spend it like there`s no tomorrow... you can stick the depression up your ass and my industry is here to stay... in the nicest possible way!:D
Its a recession when your neighbor loses his job.....
Its a depression when you lose your job.....
I have a great job as well but I care for others who live under bridges and have been thrown out of their houses.
Somebody is suffering from the effects of media hyperactivity syndrome. A couple of years ago we were all going to die of bird flu, prior to that SARS and in-between we have had to endure the sensationalism of every death in Iraq and Afghanistan and the CATASTROPHIC effects of global warming will have. While there is doubtless a recession and folk may have to actually pay back a portion of their debts (who would have thought loaned money would have to be paid back at some point) as opposed to spending as frivolously as before, you will not be talking about long queues of people waiting for government provided soup nor the collapse of western civilization.
Happy New Year! :ok:
Bird flu. I remember that...
That literally scared the hell out of me.
Idiots
I'm scared for my life.
Happy New Beer!
Happy End of the World Year.
Surly that statistic depends how often you turn on the radio. :?
While the International Labour Organization predicts 20,000,000 jobs will be lost by the end of next year, with a global population of 6,000,000,000 it amounts to less than 1% or just over 10% of current unemployment levels. Things will be tougher next year, but the world is not going to burn in an apocalyptic fire because of it, no matter what various radio stations claim.
This is, sadly, a necessary readjustment of global economies following the system becoming too dependent on credit and expanding too far, believing the boom would last forever. The recession will not last forever either and by 2010 growth should be back and jobs created.
If the media were not sensationalising over the credit crunch then all they would be focusing on high oil prices, high food prices and inflation, the increased cost of living (all of which have been reduced by the global slump), as well as the usual drama about global warming, threats of terrorist extremism (often a subtext to reduce civil liberties, although the UK government have just slipped in tracking devices under the guise of road safety) or Russia doing something unconventional, which could, naturally, cause Armageddon.
Just for the record, H5N1 hasn’t gone away either, however, KILLER BIRD FLU just doesn’t have the same impact as it once did, especially since human cases, although likely understated, have reduced since the media first predicted a biblical style plague.
To summarize: Irresponsible media sensationalism.
Well put, Mr. Smith. Some people are more susceptible to the guiles of mass hysteria than others.
Happy New Year! (belated or otherwise)
And Happy New Year to me, TheEdge is on my ignore list!
^ Rusty maybe your New Years resolution should be to stop lusting after Asian chicks. Jeez.....I can only imagine what you and the internet do alone on those dark cold nights.....(Shudders)

My New Year's resolution is to have a portion of veg with at least one meal a day. I'm never going to get five per day like I should, but it's a start :)
[edit]
Funnily enough, the exact same applies to those who actively reject what they term 'mainstream media' but we're getting too intellectual here HAPPY NEW YEAR SEGA-16Quote:

Coldest year in a decade...Al Gore is gonna be humiliated when the ice bridge between alaska and russia reforms this year and hordes of communists invade the USA through canada.
Then we'll have to use our 2nd amendment rights to defeat communism...WOLVERINES!!! AHHHH!!!
One of those? You mean people who sees reality? Yea, I guess Mr. Smith is one of those. They have been chipping away our civil liberties for a while. If you haven't noticed.
Getting too intellectual? So lets stop having conversations that use critical thinking, philosophy, and empirical data? If these conversations are getting a little to difficult for you to follow then go back in your little dream world and pretend it doesn't exist.Quote:

I can't stand it when people want to dumb things down. "Stop having conversations about current events", "Stop talking about anything that isnt entertainment or euphoric" its sad. I feel like I'm on that boat in Pinnochio where all the boys are getting turned into donkeys cause all they want to do is play games and have fun while ignoring real life.

A valid point, but at the same time, the Chicken Little mentality that the media encourages doesn't do anyone a whole lot of good.
Dam right Mr. Matthews thats what I'm talking about. Bob and weave, Bob and weave. Jab, Jab, Right Cross!
Happy New Year Haduoken!
LOL
Did I come across either too aggressively or like I was backpeddling in any way?
If so, let me elaborate so there's no confusion:
"A valid point" = I am aware that I am probably exactly the kind of person Elusive was describing. I am also aware that it is perhaps not the best way to go through the world, but...
"At the same time, the Chicken Little mentality that the media encourages doesn't do anyone any good" = this is why. There's no sense in stressing about things I can't change. In other words, I man up and deal with it.
Haha Yes!
You'd think that i'd be tired of the schtick by now, but I'm easily entertained!
:)
35 mins of 2009 here !!!!
Feliz Ano Novo a todos!
Happy New Year everybody!
Gott nytt år! Last year was the best one yet in my life, I wonder if 2009 will top it. I hope so.
Happy New Year!
My resolution is to not die and act like I am alive. And to beat Splatterhouse 2 sometime.
A couple of pics from a fairly laid back New Years!
Most of the girls spent the night with a microphone attached to their hand with that bloody singstar.

Decided to play some Brian Lara cricket, we were shit at it as our reaction times by then had gone out the window... not to mention the pink curtains are enough to give anyone a headache, I should get onto that!
