Are these games going to be actually considered HD because it can be diplayed in 720p. I dont get it they still will be the same right? I dont think it will be as good looking as Street Fighter 2 HD remix on XBLA?

No they are just the same old games, run through a scaling filter. You can do the same thing with PC emulators, it really doesn't look great, and doesn't even compare to properly redrawn HD art like in SF2HD.
My PC emulator looks better.
Rom-Nation.net
Or
RomWorld.com
Don't waste your cash.
Or you could try not being a faggot and buy it if you want it.
The filter is optional, the resolution is standard for the console.
Yea, thats true. You can be heterosexual and purchase some shitty sad roms on a disc with the Sega logo on it OR you can be a homosexual and take ten minutes out of your day to download them all and play them on an emulator for free.
The choice is yours and yours alone. Your sexuality stands in the balance. Good Luck!
Or you can be People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive and just own all of the real games on a real Genesis (early model 1 with at least an s-video mod).
I tried to own them all, but people online like to be idiots. Not worth the fustration of lost packages or stupdity
TheEdge: maybe you should realise one of these options is stealing and unsupportive of the games? Like I said, if someone wants it, they can buy it. If not they can not buy it, or just look for the carts if they have the time.
It is just annoying to see autistic retards on the internet whine, then instead of actually buying anything, all they do is steal. It does not make you a fan of anything, it just makes you a leach.
Sorry I don't support rehashed crap roms on the next gen's. I think its pretty sad of Sega to do this YET again. How many "Smash Packs" have we seen in our time? Maybe if they came out with a DVD Documentary of the making of these games, maybe then I would buy it but why waste money on the same stuff with different packaging?
As this guy Don Resinger has said. Its pretty sad. In this video he talks about the "Sega Ultimate Collection" and he says what all of us have been thinking.
http://news.cnet.com/8301-13506_3-10...ag=mncol;title
Edit: Also you spelled the word Leech wrong.
The collection includes 40 games, interviews, previews, arcade games, and Master System games for 30 dollars. How is this shitty?
This is the only collection like it on PS3/360 so far.
The first collection like this on PS2/PSP was even praised on this site as being great, so you are the odd one here.
Edit: cocks
Still Sorry about this but I will not waste anymore money on crap like this. :rip:
I got a bright idea how about a new game by sega? How about that? How about a new games that actually uses inspiration from their old franchises? Worked well for Nintendo? And by DVD Documentary I don't mean snip-its of info. I mean the full history of these games, not a 5 minute video for fluff. How about they raise their standards a little and move into the future?
Now I know GA: beast riders sucked a lot BUT I feel that was a step in the right direction.
or you can mod an original XBOX and run it with the same filters (in fact, probably a better selection) and put any freakin game you want because AFAIK they all work great.
The collection is half the price of every other new game, and it has 40+ games on there including whatever that extra content is.
If you want SEGA to make money from the games you love, then buy it. If not just say you are a fan and play your ROMs I guess.
The value for money thing is without a question there, it's more the way of presenting these classics in a respectful manner than as how many you can throw on a DVD.
Here's how you should not present your classics: http://www.sega.com/games/?searchPla...searchGenre=-1
And here's how you should present your classics: http://vc.sega.jp/
...and no one has a short penis just because he plays ROMs. =P
I agree with having 'making of's as a requirement for collections like these, and I hate the 'Now in HD' advertisement bs, but I strongly disagree that GA: Beast Riders was a step into *any* direction at all. It's just some game.
What should they've done different ? How should it have looked like ?
Let me show you:

That's how you do HD updates to 2D games.
^ As much as I feel that the King of Fighters stuff is a bit played out I am impressed by this. SNK's always brings quality to the table.
Also I would think that people should actually boycott the "Ultimate Sega Pack stuff thing" or whatever the hell its called because we DONT want them to continue to make any more. If people ignored it and didn't buy it then Sega would get the message that we don't want rehashed rom in a different box put under an oily filter.
I say hit them where it hurts and stop babying them. Don't buy it and let them know we want more stuff like SNK's coming out with.
@Christuserloeser: great links, all points taken. Now how do we get Sega to start giving their bread-and-butter franchises this type of treatment?
@Kogen: playing devil's advocate here: whether you download and play ROMs or buy used copies of 20-year old Genesis cartridges, Sega gets the same thing from it: zero dollars. So if using ROMs/emulators is being a leech from the publisher/developer's standpoint, so is buying used games, whether they were released 20 years ago or re-released last week.
@TheEdge: it certainly would be nice if Sega put out more "new games that actually uses inspiration from their old franchises"...that didn't suck, agreed. But Sega seems to have lost their way so I don't know how soon we can expect this, if ever.
@Don Resinger (dude in the video): Sega's is'nt exactly A#1 developer these days, so if they did make a console, first-party software support would automatically be lackluster. Third party software support would be nonexistent, because Sega have already burned too many developers and shaken confidence in their ability to make a console succeed. So we would likely have the worst Sega console ever: no good first party games, no third party games to speak of.
Sega needs to refocus, quit making crap games--franchise or otherwise--and do what they're supposedly focusing on: making good games.
On a related note: though it's not strictly their franchise, did anyone play the Sega-developed Thunderforce 6? Does it give hope that at least some people within Sega are trying?
SF2-HD had a budget, and an entire team of people dedicated to redrawing the entirety of the game in 1080, fully-high-definition sprites. CAPCOM can afford it because they _know_ that people will buy it as a taster for Street Fighter IV.
(cognitive dissonance moment: 'real gamers' don't care about graphics at the expense of gameplay. but suddenly, when SF2 is re-skinned into HIGH DEFINITION, 'real gamers' can't throw money at Capcom hard enough)
The Mega Drive Ultimate Compilation is, well, an ultimate compilation of the MD's finest and(/or lol) most-recognisable first-party games, with a few 'background' SMS games, developer interviews, etc etc.
If you seriously think there's no effort going to this collection at all, you're mistaken. Buying this is 'babying' Sega? Please.
Get over it. I'm not buying it. Also I was playing Kid Chamelion yesterday on my Kega Fusion emulator.
Also lets use some critical thinking here.
How about a remake of an old franchise. Redrawn sprites AND game commentaries afterwards. That would turn my head and actually contain some quality but no....sorry thats too hard for Sega. Lets just make another "Smash Pack crap" and let the morons waste some cash on it, Cause "We have to support them" :bull:
Support them?!??!!? So they can take some roms, burn them to a disc, and give us a cheesy menu?? $20 dollars? Screw that I would rather put that money towards the grocery bill.

i want to see a list of what arcade games will be included. the vector arcade games on the PS2 Genny collection were fantastic.
of course, the ultimate sega collection would be an arcade compilation... and nintendo needs to get of its duff and release their arcade games on the virtual console
I've honestly given up on that thought. Several times.
No, but I just bought a modded PS2 for that game. (well, that and Sega Ages: Fantasy Zone Complete Collection)
I've been a proud Dreamcast and GameCube owner ever since, but these two releases have had some impact on my perception on the PS2.
Think about what you just said. You stated that buying used products is the same as stealing.
And SEGA still makes plenty of great games. They have a newer port of Outrun SP coming out soon, they recently remade Fantasy Zone 2 on System 16, Creative Assembly makes great games, and so on.
You might want to re-read my comment: I said that from the publisher/developer's perspective, they stand to gain the same thing from you playing the ROM as they do from you buying a used game: nothing--because your money is not going to them. I made no equivocation on theft and buying used products as they are obviously very different on both legal and moral levels. Nor was my comment intended to condone any course of action--just trying to make an often-overlooked point that either way, the game maker gets nothing.
Yeah, but one of the worst DVD players ever made!
No, SEGA already got the money. This is a used title.
You implied that buying used copies of the games is somehow better for Sega than downloading and playing the ROMs, but this isn't the case.
More specifically, there were at least four ways of obtaining the games in the collection, with some important distinctions:
1. Buy the 'Collection disc new retail: support Sega, don't steal.
2. Buy a used copy of the 'Collection: don't support Sega, don't steal.
3. Buy the used cartridges: don't support Sega, don't steal.
4. Download the ROMs: don't support Sega, arguably steal.
Lots of people in the video game industry would argue that you're every bit as much of a leech if you buy a used copy of the game, because you're getting to play the game without paying anything to the publisher--it is effectively the same thing as playing the ROMs since either way, the developer sees no gains from the second, third, or millionth sale of that copy of the game. It's arguably similar (though obviously not identical) to someone buying a BluRay copy of a movie, then charging a small fee (not quite enough to recoup expenses, let's say) to a group of people who want to watch a showing of it; this scenario is almost universally agreed to be "stealing" because you can't legally do it, it says so right on the movie. But reselling used video games is similar: everyone who buys it used is getting the experience of it, but none of them contributed any money to the maker, they're only contributing money to the first or subsequent purchaser(s) of the game.
I'm just playing devil's advocate, trying to make these 2 points:
1. Buying used games is in no way supportive of the publisher/developer.
2. Buying used games is arguably--from a certain perspective--every bit as much stealing as is buying a used copy of the game since you're getting the experience without paying the originator of the intellectual property that comprises the game.
You are getting into a discussion for no reason.
I said used games are an alternative, a lot of people here collect stuff.
I did not say no one should ever download a ROM and that it is a huge crime; I do this a lot. I am just saying if you do this, you should support SEGA by buying their collections, or at least not bitch about it.
...but it's fun! Reason enough. :)
Agreed on all points here, except the qualification that you buy them or not bitch about it...if that were the case, we couldn't get into these wonderful point/counterpoint conversations. :)
Maybe TheEdge was disappointed and feeling that Sega should be bringing more to the table if they expect us to pay for something that's only marginally improved over the version we bought 20 years ago and/or can otherwise obtain for free--I see his point. A true HD upgrade to even two or three select hits from the included titles might justify a purchase of the re-release.
I think people may be missing the point here again. SEGA isn't making this for us, it would be very stupid of them to because a lot of us either still play these titles on the original hardware, own one or more of the compilations they already crapped out, know that these can be easily emulated, or have just wised up to SEGA's acts. They are making it for the millions of people who had a Genny back in the day, loved the hell out of these games, and when the next generation of consoles came around boxed up their Genesis along with all their games, and eventually lost it all in a series of moves due to divorces. A lot of people will walk into stores, see this, get a nice warm feeling of nostalgia rush over them, see the (relatively) cheap price and pick it up on the spot.
It's almost a sure win, and it should turn a profit for Sega, considering the money put into making this is probably next to nothing. Still though, I personally won't buy it, for all of the reasons listed about but if I saw it used for a good price, it'd be hard to say no. Even if that's the case though, SEGA isn't getting any money off of me.
Now if it had trophies/achievements, online leaderboards, and online multiplayer with some of these games I'd be quick to reconsider passing on this.
@AD2101: Well-said: it wasn't made for you and I, we kept our originals; since it's not bringing anything new that we want, we won't buy it new, and even if we buy it used, we're not supporting/babying them and their attempts at squeezing every last dollar out of old IP.
There are going to be trophies / achievements. And they look quite easy to get...
As for the online... there probably isn't any. Because, you know, that might take a little work.
I'll probably pick this collection up used. It's probably a tad cheaper than getting CIB copies of all the original titles, thanks to ones like SOR3 (though I shall pick up original copies of everything eventually) and the extra features sound interesting. Looking at the above achievement list, I believe there are unlockable Master System games and also arcade titles. If there really are arcade titles, I'll almost definitely buy it because MAME hates my computer but I want to play some arcade classics.
It might be kind of fun to try and get some of the trophies. Not sure about $20 fun, but maybe when it is used for a mere $15. I love Gamestop and their low, low used prices which are an amazing $5 below the cost of a new product.
Hm, I forgot you guys don't have RGB... That adds another perspective I guess, seeing as the games can be displayed via HDMI (PS3) or VGA (360) on any HDTV.
- Let's hope this has a 480p option, which probably would be the best mode to display these games. An alternative might be a 960 pixels windowed in 1080p.
You'd have to change your system settings to 480p to get that.
Does anyone have a full game list for this compilation? I think $30 is actually a pretty good deal for 40 classic games and some unlockable SMS & Arcade games. If I already own most of those games, however, then the deal is off
They've only released the names of the Genesis titles so far, and will reveal the unlockables later.

There are a lot of games on that list that I already own. The unlockables better be pretty cool, or I'm gonna pass.
Ok, I was thinking about it a little and the only way I would purchase this or any other "Smash Pack" Rom rehash crap would be if I had children and I wanted them to experience the Genesis quality gaming.
That's the only way I would purchase this.
I'm strongly considering because of it's low price point, and a handful of the included games that I don't already own (Comix Zone & Ristar, for example). Some decent arcade & SMS titles (Fantasy Zone II?) might just push me over the edge.
