Deadly Moves

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and by that logic Capcom's Street Fighter II must be blushing like a virgin bride on her wedding day. The amount of clones out there that shamelessly rip off the arcade classic is staggering, and it seemed that everyone tried to cash in on the craze at one time or another. Kaneko's Deadly Moves, also released on the SNES as Power Moves, was one such cash run. To say it compares poorly to its source material would be a major understatement, and one wonders just how inspired (or drunk) its developers really were when they set out to create it. Great review. I had never heard of this game before. Now, after playing the rom, I wish I hadn't.

Yeah, this wasn't a great game, but a 1/10 is too low.

Now tell me - anyone - who grew up during the MD heyday if you didn't play this game a lot... and actually enjoyed it.

Yeah the 1/10 is too dramaticly low.

I'd put it at about a 3 myself. The backgrounds were pretty cool.

1/10 is way too low. It's MUCH better than Beast Wrestler.

I'm surprised that there's people who are actually defending this game. It's not the worst game on the MD by a longshot but it doesn't do a single thing right.

Melf I halfway agree with you, the backgrounds look cool alright, but only when you see them in a screenshot. When the wannabe parrallax gets going in the game, they look terrible.

This game is definitely worse than Beast Wrestler, and it's definitely worse than Ballz 3D which isn't reviewed too highly on this site either.

I have to disagree with 60% of the review. It sounded to me like the reviewer didn't even take the time to actually play the whole game. It is a very beatable game. Difficult, but beatable. The characters are very generic and weird almost like the ones from Fighter's History. It's too bad that you can only choose the main character (Ryu clone) to play against the computer instead of the others and the lack of a story. The game is plagued with limited animation for all the characters and there is a lack of voice samples and sounds, but the backgrounds look good, the music is above average and there is a noticable use of some bright colors too. I'd give this game at least a 5.

I went back and finished the game allright, the fact that you only get "you are the No. 1 fighter" as an ending was enough to make it not worth it at all. The game sucks bad. Gameuser go back, finish the game all the way through and tell me again if you can honestly give the game a 5/10. I bet you'll score it much lower after a playthrough.

Melf you can change the score to a 2/10 when you get a chance.

I disagree.
The backgrounds are the best looking aspect of this game. The floor moves in an SF II fashion, and that was pretty neat back then, when most fighting games had static floors with few (or even none) parallax in the background.
I also found the music nice for the most part.

I actually liked this game back in the day. I remember renting it and I must say it had a very cool single player mode where you start the game with a handicap and have to fight your way up in strength.

I thought that was pretty inventive for a fighting game.

The Edge, I read your comment in the review, I have to agree that it has that crappy pirate charm but in a bad and amusing way. It also has the crap collision detection, framerate, and choppy scrolling issues that plague most pirates. I will admit that Kaneko had some innovative ideas for he time but the game still falls on its face to me. I told Melf he could change it to a 2 in a previous post.

I will go out on a limb here and say if it had better collision detection and you can choose more than one character to play as it may have been somewhat decent.

I actually like the US cover for purely cheesy reasons. Just some dude getting nailed right in the cocksucker. Definitely a 2/10 if only for the cover
