Subor is how they were called, later on there were identical ones with Liko and Dendy brand. Right now, everything is Dendy.

If you wanted it to, you can. There's a volume slider on the second controller that turns the mic on and off.
They're awesome but there's one flaw in the AV Famicom you should know about. Nintendo used a revised sound chip in the AV Famicom so whenever any game cart or device made use of the extra sound channels (like Akumajo Densetsu or the Famicom Disk Drive) in the Famicom, those extra sounds are mixed too high in volume when outputted through the AV Famicom. So high in fact, they drown out some of the sound effects. If you can deal with the short controller cords, I would get a RF Famicom and AV mod it.
There's also one called the Scorpion that's all black http://www.geocities.com/s_h_3/ninte.../scorpion8.htm

All black and called the "Scorpion," now that's pretty bad ass.
There are even some Famiclones that look like a Genesis, like the Dendy Junior II, or BS-500AS: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/60/19...a738f2.jpg?v=0
It looks pretty awesome (with a psudo Lazer Tag light gun to boot), but it seems kind of wrong... (though Lazer Tag was marketed by the same company as the NES in the US)
There are even some rather odd NES clones: http://www.computissimo.ch/v-esp/console.htm http://www.computissimo.ch/image-console/v-game.jpg
Do you have one with the YM2413 FM synthesis chip? (granted there are a few cases with games that utilize it actually sound worse than with the PSG)
And really nice set up! Too bad companies didn't reguarly use standard JVC outputs, adds a little bit to cost, but more than makes up for in convienence. (esp. for collectors) Though things would start to get a bit iffy when you add S-Video as well (though by then you'd probably have elliminated RF out), and once you get to component video, you've got a bit of a mess.
At least Nintendo kept their multi AV out port standard from AV Famicom through Game Cube.
