Eight applications with a GPA well above the minimum requirement and I was rejected each time.
I was eventually told that I needed a 3.2GPA or better, from one of the most difficult Junior Colleges in the country, to be accepted into any department. Then I started hiring employees from this university at the restaurant I ran. Discovering how they didn't study, did drugs, and went to parties every weekend was a real eye opener. It wasn't just about race either, I couldn't figure it all out, but hispanics, blacks, asians and wealthy white kids were definitely getting in a lot faster than lower income white males that I knew. Ultimately I just went to another college to finish my bachelors and most of my masters.
I was told by a number of guidance councilors at that other university that I would need to have a much higher GPA than the usual minimum acceptance point average. By the time I actually bested that point average I had a family and was completely sick of the entire system.
