The bottom line is that blacks in America have the history that, unfortunately, is the reason for many of the continued issues / riots / discontent to this day. That's why it seems like it's "always" blacks, besides the fact that the media often covers it in such a way that only blacks are spoken of and shown.

None of that makes rioting or anything else that happened acceptable, and nothing could. It simply is understandable to a degree why the situation blew up the way it did. Nor is this a political issue, at least not in the way you were describing in terms of liberals, conservatives, etc. No matter who would be in charge the issues would be the same, so long as the triggers remained the same (in this case, the death of Freddie Gray while in police custody)

Trying to divide this along partisan lines ignores the problem, as does trying to blame it as a "black" problem. There are plenty of others that weren't shown in the media that handled themselves peacefully and constructively, but that doesn't make ratings.

Ok guys I am completely aware that people riot across the world concerning various grievances. That is an absolute no brainer. What I am talking about specifically is in the United States of America when a white police officer or white person shoots a black person all hell tends to break loose within the black community. I am not addressing international turmoil. I am addressing civil unrest and rioting in the USA concerning Baltimore and similar incidents. Is it that hard for you fine folks to understand? No other race has that specific problem in the United States but blacks. Whites, asians, hispanics, arabs do not riot when they are shot by a cop or a person of another race in the United States. Got it?????

Not sure about Hispanics but the last famous asian that did in fact get shot and killed by the police was the Seng-Hui Cho. The guy that killed 32 at Virgina Tech not sure how anybody can riot about that. Last Arab guy was the shot up was Nidal Malik Hasan aka the Fort Hood shooter. Again not sure how people can ya know riot about that?

"Famous", please, you're better than that. What about Abdul Arian? The muslim kid that commited suicide by cop (by aiming a fake gun at the cops)? There were protests but no riots.
What about that time cops beat a mentally insane homeless man to death? Where were the riots?

There is no excuse for rioting, none. There's a huge different between protesting and rioting.

There were all types of peaceful protest in the 60's and that still led to dogs getting sicked on people and folks getting hosed down. Haha! When I clicked on the link, I just knew that the 2011 Vancouver riots was going to be listed! Truth be told though: That article is wrong though. With respect to that event, people of all nationalities were rioting and looting stores downtown! The city was adamant about catching the culprits and turned to social media to help identify the dimwits! Parents and friends turned in the culprits! LOL!

Let us not forget 1994. God save us from belligerent Canuck fans.

I understood perfectly that you were talking about this country, which is why I went into the history of blacks within this country as being part of the reason. That's why other people brought up other races in different countries due to their respective histories or issues as examples of how it can be any race given the right circumstances.

Also, as for people other than blacks rioting, I think this link just about covers it.

There are some white people in this town that think that this country does indeed have social injustices but they're are also some that think it is fine. This were the issues of liberals vs. conservatives become an issue. Obama proposed some idea of free junior college for students that met certain requirements. When this subject started to trend on twitter it became very interpreting to see what conservatives were saying. Actually they were saying what they always say. College education isn't a right blah blah, It's not I don't want my taxes paying for other peoples education. On the the other hand I can say that our governor Bill Haslam (republican) has implemented something similar for adults. And it is also amazing how education is viewed in other countries compared to here. You can get in massive debt trying to get a degree depending on what type it is vs other countries.

It's true that for many it does go on partisan lines, but there still are those out there that don't exactly align themselves completely with either and view the issues of social injustices similarly.

For example, in terms of being "registered", I'm a democrat and my father is a republican. That's about where the allegiance ends for both of us as we're disillusioned with they system and more or less vote similarly on many issues, including opportunities and education in regions that aren't as well off as others etc.

Maryland in particular has some pretty severe divides, as in some areas we have some of the highest income-per-capita in the entire country (Bethesda, for example) yet then we have places like Baltimore and it's surrounding suburbs. It sometimes polarizes the state pretty harshly.

As for education...that is one aspect that I desperately wish was more like the European model. Our student debt (including mine), is ridiculous while in some European countries you don't even pay for higher education.

I'm curious, just how much do you have to pay to get a higher education there in the states? Here in portugal it's around 1k a year (taxes pay part of the costs, but not all).
In a private institution it's 3x that, plus a bunch of little additional costs (and medicine studies are a lot more expensive).

It's very, very subject to where you live, where you want to go to school, and what kind of grants and the like you are able to get (if any).

It can be a few thousand a year to well over 20K USD a year.

Average for this last year for a 4 year degree is over 30K USD.

For most schools, this does NOT include extra costs for housing, meal plans, books, other assorted supplies, or other fees that may need to be paid (parking permits, etc).

That means your average US Student with a 4 year degree will have upwards of 100k USD to pay back (by them and/or relatives) by the time they graduate.

I had a split with my parents. I graduated in 1999. I just paid off my portion last year. So 15 years it took me to pay it off. My parents are still paying back their portion since they were able to secure a much more agreeable interest rate for their portion and are in no rush to get rid of it.

Yes, our educational system, much like our healthcare system, is broken as fuck in terms of financials.

Housing isn't included here either but you can usually get decent rooms for 100€ a month. Cantina food is 2.20€ a meal I think.

If you only have 1 parent supporting you with minimum wage (which is around 500€ month), it's really tough... but in such cases the government usually helps with some extra money.

Housing here will vary wildly depending on the school and the area it's in. Some will be cheap, some will be horribly expensive. Public transport outside of a very few areas of the country is a complete joke as well, so you can't go too far unless you happen to be in one of those areas.

Food costs, same deal. Some can be cheap and affordable, others not so much.

My books cost me on average a bit under $1k USD a year. Some will pay more, some less. Nowadays there are often a few other resources available to get them cheaper if you know where to look, but still not cheap.

There are tons of people who will never be able to afford school past high school in this country unless they get a full scholarship or very, very close to a full scholarship.
