Scorpion Mega Drive clone

I remember watching this back in the day.

The Scorpion MD clone on TV in about 1994 or 95

Ok, so these days MD/Genesis clones are ten-a-penny, but back in 1995 I don't think we'd heard of any except for this one. Now, I've never seen one of these in real life and I have a strong suspicion that they never made it to market at all. It wouldn't surprise me. I'm not sure I understand the built-in game "feature" - why can't they just put a game in with the system? Region-free PAL Mega Drives weren't all that uncommon either.

It's an interesting idea, at least. I wouldn't mind getting one if it could be had for cheap, but as you said, who really knows if it went to market at all?

e: never mind. A cursory googling seems to indicate that they did come out, but it seems unlikely that I'd be able to find one around here, anyway.

They certainly did make it to market, and unbelievably for an unofficial clone were actually available in normal high street stores in the UK back in the day! (Tandy were a prime offender)

They were not made by a company in the UK but were distributed by a UK based company, if I remember correctly there are a few versions, one in a smaller casing and the one my old neighbor had came with a *insert random number of games* in 1 cart hard soldered into the extra cart slot.

It would be cool to own one, but I'd pay no more than a Jackson (max) for it.

Because "Turbo Processing" doesn't have the same ring to it.

I have one, but its dead.... but some chips from it work, one is the YM2612 clone.... the Scorpion is functionally identical to real MD, mainly because all the chips are 1:1 decap copies....

Wait... what? What does proprietary chips have to do with anything? If anything, custom chips allows for more functionality or features. But anyway, TmEE said they were decap copies. Doesn't matter if the originals were custom or off the shelve parts.

the "in-built-game" bit is pretty funny; especially since you basically can simply swap the built-in game with any cartridge, so what's the point? However, I guess a nice touch would be if there was a big 64-MegaPower multigame-cart in there...

by the way, who's that gal in the video? She's kinda hot...

Did you know the Violet in Micro Machines 2 was based on Violet Berlin?

Bad Influence did a feature where Violet visited Codemasters and they put her in the game.
