Non-working Mega CD :(
I just spent £70 or so on a Mega CD 1 and a load of games from Ebay.
After spending more than a week waiting for it it doesn't work.
I put a CD in, it will spin the disc but it won't play the game. I get a solid green light and flashing red light whenever I do this.
Anyone know what's likely to be the issue?

is the AC brick correct and have you cleaned the lens and the MCD connector with alcohol ?
-
Nope, I haven't cleaned it (yet!)
The AC brick I'm using is the one I got with it (model no. 1602-05), which is identical to the MD one except it has a little hand-written sticker saying "Mega CD".
I'll give it a clean, then come back and check for replies. What do you think it will be if it isn't the adapter, the contacts or the lens?
-
The adaptor is good enough in this case...
If the lens and connector cleaning won't help, then you might have some laser and/or its assembly issues...
-
Well, I've cleaned the connector and the lens and it made no difference at all.
How do I go about sorting out the laser? Can it even be done?

Does nobody know how I can repair my poor old MCD? :(
-
if it is a dead CD drive then you may try to get another drive, but I think it would be easier and cheaper to get another MCD.......

it might have been jarred during shipping, check to make sure all the rails and other assemblies are working right. I'm not sure how much you would have to disassemble to do this since I haven't taken apart or fixed an MCD 1 before, but in my experience with other CD systems, that is usually the case. Was it tested before hand? If so, I can almost guarantee you it was jarred during shipping and something isn't aligning right.

I've taken it apart, I've had it open with a CD in and the only thing it's not doing right is reading the disc. It spins fine, it grabs the disc fine etc. I'm not sure how much I would have to do to check the assemblies. I don't know whether the laser moves on the rail properly.
