By god, I finally beat that blasted game. It got on my nerves and ticked me off so many times. As of today I finally beat it and got the good ending too. All I have to say is the jump button to jump and spin is broken and is a pain to pull off when you need it the most.:daze:
The jump-spin always annoyed me. I've never finished it, but I do like Revenge of Shinobi.
That's awesome, myself and one friend have made it to the last guy, Neo Zeed I think he was called. None of my other friends could even come close.
That's terrific. I've always wanted to beat this one, but I've only gotten about half way. I am lame!!
Actually your post is inspiring me to get it out and try it again. Wish the game had passwords!
I assure you, Revenge Of Shinobi is a really easy game once you know it, but can be abruptly hard the first time around, and not always in a pleasant way. You have to become the game to beat it, that means learning every stage and knowing where each enemy is to kill them - most of the time - offscreen before they even have time to attack. But each stage is short and easy to memorize, and you can beat them in several different ways taking different path in them at your liking.
Also, look for hidden powerups in each stage (throw shuriken everywhere). Remember their locations, so when you know for example that a powerup for magic is close, you can waste your magic meanwhile. I only use Thunder magic and nothing else.
RoS is really one of the best experience I had on the Genesis. There's not a single moment in the game I don't like.
Now I can't play this game any other way than the hardest mode with no Shurikens... Otherwise it's really too easy. Now, don't think I am an expert, keep playing, have fun, and you will get better and better.
Cool. I call myself "genesisguy" yet I've never played any Shinobi game.
I picked this game up awhile back at a Goodwill I believe. I might have to sit down this weekend and give it a go.
I thought the jumping was a bit touchy too, I didn't mind the game but didn't love it. It's one of those games that's possible with patience but isn't for everyone and will admit I'm not huge on it and wouldn't cry if I don't ever finish it.
I'm still trying to beat this one after all these years, the game is really plenty of fun. The double jump is frustrating at times, but it isn't all that bad. One day you shall be beaten ROS!

As an urchin I was completely confused by the labyrinth stage. My brother and I would play it in shifts to try and discover a way through, often spending as long as five hours before giving up. I reckon I have completed it as a grown up though - the final boss is tosh.
The jump spin was never broken. It was just how ninjas jumped in 1989.
The last boss was certainly conceived by a hair-brained idea.
I remember being awestruck while fighting the Shadow Dancer in The Bistro for the first time.
The tracks on this cart were fantastic.
Bottom line: Revenge was an A+ title. :nod:
It is broke. There was once where I wanted to jump across and he would just do a normal jump and I fell into a pit not once but like 5 times in a row.:mad: At first I thought maybe you had to time it but it acts like it does it random.Quote:
