So I picked up a cheap Model 2 SCD...

Yeah so cheap the thing didn't work.

But...

I fixed it! Whoohoo! Luckily it was a simple fix, the standard fuse that seems to be the usual suspect on these things.

Here is a video showing a basic bypass until I can find a fuse and testing it out.

Works like a champ and its in pretty good shape too. I played a little Bram Stokers Dracula on it afterward. First time I got to play the game too!

Any tips on the fuse specs and what I should get to replace it would be great!

You forgot to ask about the possible mod you found; if anyone would recognize it it's probably be someone on here. ;)

its a 2.5amp fuse you'll need to put in mate, my model 2 had the same issue. i've had to use a 3amp plug fuse for the time being whilst i source a 2.5amp one but its had no i'll effect so far and its safer than a bypass with wire i think. :)

maplins do 2.5a fuse's that would be ideal here;

i've basically soldered a piece of wire to either end of the fuse then soldered it to the orginal fuse contact points then sealed the fuse with electrical wire

ideally you could fit an inline fuse holder like this to allow quick replacment;

Did you find out what that thing soldered to the board is? (the suspected mod or possible repair)
