Dutch website SegaOnline has gotten its hands on some supposed leaked screenshots of Sonic & Knuckles for Xbox Live Arcade. Much like their previous leaks they've turned out to be quite real.

The screen shot simply shows the interface of the Sega Vintage Collection design, but clearly shows the ability to "Lock-On" with Sonic 1, 2 or 3 from within the game. This ability was completely omitted from the retail Ultimate Genesis Collection with a large outcry from fans who wanted the feature, to play Sonic 3 & Knuckles like it was meant to be.

Whether or not this screenshot is real like the others is currently unknown, but considering the track record of things getting leaked for Xbox Live Arcade it would not be surprising at all.

This is from the guys who leaked the OutRun Online Arcade screens, along with the new Sega Vintage Collection versions of Sonic 3, Comix Zone, Gunstar Heroes, Shinobi, and Altered Beast.

It's not quite the same as adding it into the Mega Drive Ultimate Compilation via DLC or a patch, but it's very very good news regardless!

Meh, nothing beats the real thing. Even if the real thing is the retarded slow PAL version.

I'll buy it if the price is right.

Sega is killing me with these Genesis re-releases on the 360. I already have these games on my Genesis.

SegaSonic without the trackball isn't worth it, and the game's too short to be worth more than a $5 purchase anyway.

I was going to report on this in a new installment of MEGA Bites last month, but I wanted to wait and see what was going to happen. I doubt I'll buy these, as I'm sick to death of Sega churning out these games over and over without end. I will buy Gunstar Heroes and Shinobi if/when they do come out though.

Trackball is hype. I only got a taste of of SegaSonic from MAME. Using the X360 analog stick to control Sonic is far better than using a keyboard.

500 MS points sound about right for this game. I'd pay it.

the trackball is certainly NOT hype, its the core mechanic of the game. Without the trackball, you're just holding a direction. The whole point is that you have to spin the trackball fast enough to keep Sonic out of danger. With a joystick, its like having an auto-fire button, its basically cheating.

Well my experience on MAME using a keyboard wasn't a walk in a park. You still die, that trackball is just niche control.

I think that coding up an emulator, while tricky in and of itself, is still much less work than stripping a game to pieces and putting it back together so it fits into an XBLA / PSN shell.

The XBLA Sega ROMs support Live on-line play and sport their own achievements. No idea why Backbone couldn't have the UGC feature Live play for the two-player titles, but then the company can't be bothered to offer some better filters for the games as well. Sega really needs to search for a new company to outsource the rehashing and milking of its ROMs because Backbone's efforts have been subpar thus far.

You can't play Sonic 3 and Knuckles on the Genesis collection either
